Re: Medicom Dark Knight Batman - Photo Thread

No Photoshop tweaks on the lighting at all. It is what it is.

When this goes into the light tent you'll see the true colour. Slightly metallic. The paint is actually reflecting my orange t-shirt.

Phase 1 of the belt, now to weather it. After I try and work in another canister to clip on at the front.

Nice Work Vodoun!!!
Can't wait to see what you do with the carbon decals!

Re: Medicom Dark Knight Batman - Photo Thread

Start of the carbon kevlar work. It's glossy at the moment due to the Microsol doing it's thing. I'll wait till it's fully dry before I trim it all as it slowly evaporates while it's shrinking the decal. Those aren't bubbles by the way, it's wet beads.

Mama Mia! :D

Still to tweak the lower chest plate trim.

Long way to go yet. Lots of time spent cutting templates for the kevlar plates so it's near enough a perfect fit. So time consuming.

Re: Medicom Dark Knight Batman - Photo Thread

Yeah that's what I wanted to see.

Like you were saying.. from a distance you can't see the actual pattern in the carbon fiber. It just looks charcoal grey. And yours captures that nicely.. and when you see it upclose (just like the real suit) you'll see the carbon fiber pattern and detailing.

Re: Medicom Dark Knight Batman - Photo Thread

I'll see how it goes once it's all complete when it's time to weather the parts. The kits have like a thick make up type of brush to gently tone it down. I'll test on a small flat cutting to see how much it covers the carbon detail. It being enough to take the shine out of the texture while the detail remains up close. In between comparing the photo shoot and film pictures. Enough to get a somewhat subtle shine.

Same goes for the belt.

I thought that too. The more I was working on it the figure felt like it was starting to transform into Hot Toys premium quality.

I'm not sure where you can buy the water slide carbon decals in the US. It was only £3.50 in the UK. BBR Carbon Fibre - Medium weave (Black/Silver) DEC26 1:20th. Sadly it tells you very little on their site.

5 - 6 inch sheet or so and you'll need a bottle of Micro Sol.

I suppose a tutorial could be done but it depends how comfortable a person is working with water slide decals. Once the Microsol gets onto this and starts softening the decal. It's worse than wet tracing paper. It becomes like mush if somebody messes it up. It can be done if a person is patient with the process. It was roughly over half an hour on each section of the chest before trimming and tidying it up. It's quite a slow process to make sure there are no wrinkles/bubbles across the entire surface. A fine soft paintbrush helps with this greatly.

Once it dries it becomes hard to the surface while still pliable on the suit.

yeah me too
Looks SICK vodoun, really good work man. Any link to the F1 car, it looks amazing?

Thanks, the practise has came from working on the diecast models. Though that F1 Ferrari is modified greatly. F2008 Ferrari F1 Raikkonen Spanish GP 1/18.

Re: Medicom Dark Knight Batman - Photo Thread

Sweet thanks, your one looks a million times better :D Although that one's good from the box too

Re: Medicom Dark Knight Batman - Photo Thread

Huh. Thanks. Sounds like a ^^^^^ to do though......i think i'll live with how my HT one is.

Re: Medicom Dark Knight Batman - Photo Thread

A few tweaks and tidying up whats left to do to the kevlar on the arms and other parts here and there. Then onto the sides of the suit to complete the upper body and then start on the legs.

Experimenting with the skin tone/texture/eyes. More matte black for depth on the eye sockets. It was overly shiny in there. 3 ranges of mixed skin tone acrylics as a thick base coat with a small drop of red and lots of white for a neutral tone. Then the weathering kit for added realism to the texture. Another part of the weathering kit to give depth to the cowl on the mouth area so it feels it's not flush with the face. Enough that it doesn't look like shadows painted on the edges either. Heading towards risol's/ TDK Warner Bros promo pics for tone and realism references. It's no longer smooth plastic.

This is taking longer than I thought to complete. Still so far to go yet. :orthanc
