Wow, those pics are not flattering to the Sideshow figure. The Medicom looks absolutely AMAZING!!!

wow nice super flash in the SS version. but even without the horrid photography the medicom appears in better quality....but no one should be surprised because of the price-point difference between the two....but then again we've crossed that bridge many a-time.

The Maulfans are going to be spolied with this figure - in some photos it looks lifelike.
Wish I could say the same about their Hannibal version.

There's no flash in the SS photo. But I think the lighting they used is quite strong on the SS Maul.

i stand corrected. good point, they could have taken it down a notch.....not that it would have changed with the outcome of the head-to-head verdict.

There are many issues with the Sideshow Maul. If Medicom sold theirs for more realistic prices...but they don't.

How can there be such a ridiculous price difference between Medicom and Sideshow. Judging from the screenshots, the quaility isn't too far from each other. I'm fine with the Sideshow version. Extra 100 bucks isn't making a huge difference.

That's your opinion, but when I look at those pics it's a "night and day" difference. The Medicom absolutely DESTROYS the Sideshow Maul. :maul

i like the SS Maul just fine. only have a few problems with it. i see problems with the Medi Maul too but would still like to get it also but I don't need 2 mauls and would rather put that $ towards a PF.

Kind of. I think the costume is pretty bad, especially the outer robe which is all wrong. The sculpt rocks though, and I'm sure the articulation will make it incredible. It's just that the inner robe is cut wrong and the outer cloak is just not right. What's with the dual materials? And why isn't there any flare to it--it ought to be pleated with a ton of movement and flare, not the way they did it. Yeah the sculpt is 100% awesome and it's got that great medi-body, but he doesn't have that many accessories and the costume just doesn't look film accurate--just because he's in black robes doesn't mean he's perfect. Now, if he had a Sideshow outer cloak and shorter inner robes, then we might be cooking. For now he's different and in some ways better than Sideshow's, but not so utterly that he destroys it.

Of course, that's my opinion. If anybody feels differently that's cool with me; I'm not one who worries about what other people think. I'm just saying what I'm feeling. Feel free to dispute.

the medi head looks like the maul head from the graphic novel/comic books rather than the actor. the head/sculpt still rocks though.

captain faramir pretty much summed up my opinion on the ss vs.medi maul -- probably much more eloquently than i could have put it as well. and as an aside, i wish everyone could state their opinions with the tact and grace that cap does -- i salute you sir!

The Cap is the voice of reason, heed him!

I've been wondering about the cloak/outer robe on the Medi figure.
Can anybody post reference pics of the actual props? It does not seem unlikely to me that the outer robe had parts made of a different material.

Medicoms prices come from a spectrum of different sources. Let's see, shall we?

1- Materials. They use more expensive materials, and a wider amount than Sideshow. Vinyl for instance, which is EXTREMELY high in cost due to it being made from patrolium, you know like our gas, and we all know where gas prices are huh? They use WAY more materials on a figure than SS does, vinyl, ABS plastic, many different clothing materials (generally more than SS does) and all of this adds up to higher principle. ALSO They use more body types than SS does, that costs more to, too keep around that variety of bodies, cause not everyone is built, or skinny or short or tall or an adult etc.

2- Japanese Market. Yeah, they're in Japan! They don't think or care as much about America or England or whoever, THEIR MAIN AUDIENCE IS JAPANESE, who are willing to shell out this money for these high quality figures. What we pay after having them imported is generally what the Japanese pay straight from the vendor! The money market there is different and contributes more to the cost than importing them does but.....

3-IMPORTING, it DOES make a difference. Look at HT, that stuff too is imported, how ccome there aren;t any complaints about their costs? $100-$150 hhhmmm sounds like Medicom too huh? But whatever, hate where you will.

4-LUCAS COSTS MONEY. Despite Maul not being Armored, he's a LUCAS character hence he costs more just for the name.

5- LESS MADE = MORE EXPENSIVE. Medicom generally makes less than SS, that means it costs more per figure to produce, especially since they're using more expensive materials in the end.

$150 for these toys. For the quality, I say they're worth it, if you don't, do what I do anyway cause I am CHEAP. WAIT WAIT WAIT! JUST FRIGGIN GET SOME PATIENCE AND WAIT IT OUT! You'll find one for $100 or so later on! I PROMISE! They won't really go up that much in price and someone who pulled the trigger on the full price will toss it to the side it after the hype dies and want something else and will be desperate to get rid of it and THAN my friends you strike!

But the price is not "out of this world" or "insane" if SS had higher quality I bet they're figures would be more around $100-$150 depending. But they're LOWER quality, that's not an insult THAT IS A FACT. But if you don't mind that fore the price, more for you! I WON'T pay near $70 shipped for a semi-OK face sculpt and a body that barely get's the poses I want if at all, that's just as nuts as paying $150 for a toy that does anything I want it too and IMO looks dead on perfect.

That's the question you gotta ask yourself in today's 1/6 market: Do I pay the extra price for a figure that is higher quality, or do I take a step down and go for the one that is lower quality but I can live with that for a lower price?

Quality over cost, it's what it is now. HT and Medicom cost more for a reason. Not a bash on SS, but SS figures cost what they're worth, and Medicom and HT cost what they're worth and ALL of them (minus hard to find low run grails) end up going down in price anyway after about 6 months to a year of release.
