I have the original release Medi Maul and love it. My brother had the SSC one and there are some great things about both but ultimately Medi is my choice.

As far as size goes, Ray Park is only 5'9" so the figures height is perfect. He is the same height as the sideshow but SSC head is huge. Plus it has a blank expression that I'm not fond of. Medi has an articulated head and neck instead of SSC just the neck. You can really get a menacing look on Maul by tilting the head and neck down.

Mine has the old body and was brittle and broken when I bought it but with a few well placed screws it's really tough and can't withstand the rigors of dynamic posing. I never liked the SSC buck bodies. They seem to boxy to me.

The clothing, belt and saber from SSC are far superior to Medi except the boots. Real leather belt and pointed saber tips are a really nice touch. I do like the Medi robe better then SSC but over all the accessories from sideshow win out.

I do like the fact that Medi has seperated the hand/wrists from the rest of the glove for more enhanced articulation.

The SSC stands always win over Medi.

Here is a recap:
Medi
Robe
Boots
Head Scale
Head sculpt
Head Articulation
Hand articulation

SSC
Clothes
Belt
Saber
Stand

you hit this spot on sir. apart from the headsculpt, you gotta love how the hood drapes over the head on the medi. the hood issue is the second big issue i had with the SSC that's why i had to sell it. medi FTW in this bout.

Well now, as a buyer that (to date) only has two Medicom figures, I am thinking that I made the right choice with this one. I do not expect any figure to be perfect of course - that would be silly - but it does seem like I have picked a good'un here.

I am lucky enough to have met Ray Park and he is a great fellow. Very eager and willing to mix with fans...it's just a shame that I did not have this figure at the time.

My two previous Medis are BATMAN (Batman Begins) and SUPERMAN v1 (Superman Returns). He will also be my only really high quality STAR WARS figure in 1/6. I will be getting the new SSC Darth Vader to go with him.

Well played sir. Great choice on Maul and Vader. Everyone has their own opinions and I respect the collectors who respect mine. I always thought SS's Maul sculpt looked too much like hasbro's but that's just what I see.

Overall Medi is well worth the money on this one. Even without any mods or upgrades. Please post pics when you guys get the new one in hand. Can't wait to see if it is the same or a reissue.

Well, I have not seen the HASBRO one either so...I shall take your word on it. I respect everyone's opinion, specially in areas like this where my knowledge is practically zero...such members are an invaluable source of hands-on experience.

As for this Medi...I believe that he is just a re-issue of the original. SSC refer to it as a "second chance to own..." so it does not sound like anything new.

Blegh. I got so much coming in this August. Did any of you get an estimated shipping date yet? Any worries about this guy selling out?

Just got my notification of final FLEXPAY payment through for this, so he will be with us by the end of the month!

I cannot wait as this will be our first serious foray into the world of 1/6 STAR WARS figures. My next will be the new SSC Darth Vader. :yess:

Thanks for this information, it pretty much confirms that if other online suppliers are showing Darth Maul as in stock, then SSC will be good to go too and he will be here by the month's end! :yess:

Also, it's good to see what other people will be charging for this. Doing a bit of quicky-quicky maths, that makes a $30-40 difference from the SSC price I am paying for this ($219.99).

That's a lot of money, I know. But I look at it this way. I have always used FLEXPAY and that is a convenience for me because otherwise I would buy no figures, at all, of any description, ever. FLEX offers me the option of buying with a bit of judicious budgeting.

It's a privilege that works for me and I don't mind paying to use it. Plus I have over $100 in reward points that I will use to buy one complete figure. I am effectively pre-paying for one bonus figure in advance :yess:.

Either way, old Mauly will be here by the end of the month and it was interesting to see, so thanks for that. :duff

Hmm, there doesn't seem to be much excitement for this guy's rerelease. I may have to end up parting with my 501st or Exc. IG-88 just to pick this guy up. :dunno

Hmm, there doesn't seem to be much excitement for this guy's rerelease.

Personally, I've paid zero attention to Medicom "1/6" scale figures from the beginning since they weren't actually 1/6 scale and were priced too high.

Having said that, I ran across some pics of this guy by accident and it has caught my interest. If there was ever a SW character that deserves above-average articulation, it's Maul. It sounds like he scales well with other 1/6 figures. I can swap belt and saber with the SS figure. However, reading reviews on the first release, I see that there were quality problems and the giraffe neck is less than impressive. If these issues carry through in a straight rerelease at $50 more than the original, that makes the purchase questionable.

I've PO'd at BBTS and will wait for some reviews before deciding whether to follow through.

I've got this on PO. I just can't resist not having that Maul crossed armed stance sitting on my shelf.

I love the way the hood drapes over the head. I won't display him without the hood, not because I don't like the neck, just that he just looks way better in "Sith" mode.

Bit pricey but then what do you do....

Great figure. I have the original release. Still holds its own against more expensive and more detailed figures. Got mine for like 80 bucks I think. Broken leg. Fixed it and now it's still one one of my favorites and one I'll never let go of.

I'm tempted to swap the body for a true type but can't bring myself to do it yet. I have an extra black HT neck from my black symbiote spidey I swapped for a flesh neck. That might be the piece that makes it all possible. But even without a body swap this figure is pure BAD ***!

OK, Now I am seriously PO-ed (and I don't mean Pre-Ordered!)

I have just had email notification of this figure now being put back until September. I am highly hacked off. How is this the supposedly easy 'pay on your terms' schpeil that SSC spouts so effortlessly? It might not be fully or even mainly their fault, but they very quickly and very happily take your money.

This now means, that I will have Maul, Avengers Cap:A, Avengers Hawkeye and Avengers Thor all to flex in one month! I could have bought a WHOLE FIGURE ON ITS OWN FOR THAT! :gah:

Now I am assuming that the Sept payment for Cap:A will also be delayed, every other freakin figure I have bought has been so far, and that will bring it back down to 3 in one month, but I am not happy.

Plus, It's clearly not just HOT TOYS that pull these stupid stunts, Medicom are obviously capable too.

It's already released. It's on SS not Medicom. Just taking them forever to get it i guess.

Cheaper than SS even with shipping.

Even if it's them not those, or those and not them...it's still damned annoying. Throws the idea of Flexpay budgeting (which is the whole point) right out of the window, across the front of the house, back in through the front door, up the stairs and straight down the toilet.

Thats weird I just cancelled mine but didn't know about the delay. I decided to pick up another figure instead. I can pick this up from Ebay Hong Kong later when I've got the cash.

Probably no chance of it selling out, too much good stuff coming out.
