I've only just started collecting SW figures in this approximate scale. I really like the way Medicom do certain things, but something so simple as the relative heights of these two is as easy to get right as it is to get wrong. Just get a ruler out!

The scuplts are great though, save for one area - what's with the over the top spaghetti wires in Threepio's belly? They were never that messed up were they?

I was just comparing it to the ANH photo upthread, and they look quite straight and tidy:

Certainly not like the spaghetti on the Medicom. But yes, probably best to wait until we see the finished version.

Unless Medicom plans to make R2 a Monster Truck edition, he'll NEVER be even close to the correct height. Maybe they plan to use wheels like these:

Wheels would add a miniscule amount of height to R2, which would NEVER make R2 rise up to 3P0's extended arm (see photo). Also, R2's circumference is way too small. It's not his height alone. He's a miniature version of what he should be in every direction, compared to the 3P0 in the photo.

And before people start whining, these aren't "rivet counter" complaints. These are legitimate critiques about over-priced product that look comically out of scale in production photos. If these companies want our money for these absurdly over-priced toys, they need to start making them better (non-floppy bodies, correct head sizes, correct scale, good sculpts that actually reflect subject matter, etc).

Thats pretty much how I feel.

lets face it - they're gonna be almost unbelievably expensive and not as good as the eventual sideshow ones- but we will all spend too much time convincing ourselves to try to not buy them

Definitely waiting for the SS versions as these just don't do it for me.

I have still not seen any word from Sideshow that states Sideshow will be making the droids in 1/6 scale- in fact what they said sounds like they will not BECAUSE of Medicom's droids. Read this from a Sideshow question and answer session:

Q: I just saw Medicom’s new RAH R2-D2 and C-3PO. They’re awesome, but I want to know if I should order them or wait to see the Sideshow versions? Are you going to make the droids in 1:6 scale?

A: Medicom’s Artoo and Threepio are very, very cool! We’re excited about them too!

We have great respect and admiration for Medicom’s RAH Star Wars line. They bring their own unique style and flair to every product, and we believe that Sideshow and Medicom sixth scale Star Wars products are wonderfully complementary. The two lines do have a slight scale difference (Sideshow standard male bodies being slightly taller than Medicom), but we have witnessed wonderful collections that include figures from both lines.

Sideshow and Medicom do share information about our line planning, in part to avoid releasing the same characters at the same time. This also helps us to differentiate our products - we do look for ways to provide something unique in our products, as does Medicom. For example, Medicom has released their Ep 3 and Ep 6 Darth Vaders, contributing greatly to Sideshow’s choice to focus on the Ep 4 version of Darth Vader. While Sideshow is currently in development on the droids for 1:4 scale, they are not currently in development as 1:6 scale - in great part because we believe strongly in the quality of the Medicom figures. It is possible Sideshow will develop the droids in the future, but they do not appear in our 2009 or 2010 planning.

Like I asked in this thread, which no one could provide an answer to, has Sideshow ever stated they are releasing R2 and 3PO in 1/6th scale? It seems no one can provide proof they did, they just say "maybe in the future". They only mentioned their PF line and the Medicom droids as definite releases.

Again, if I missed a later announcement about Sideshow producing their own droids, can someone provide a link or quote? Thanks.

From the Q&A on 11/30/09:

Q: I have a question, as do so other many collectors out there. Will we being seeing any bounty hunters in this 1/6 scale line? Also, any droids R2-D2 and C3-PO anytime down the road in 1/6th? And will you finish off the Jedi’s, like Agen Kolar and Yoda (of course!) in this awesome 1/6th scale line? And Count Dooku? I just love this series! I’m glad your sticking with the 1/6th scale line and keep up the great job on these special figures!

A: Most definitely - bounty hunters are an essential part of the Scum and Villainy line! Yes, C-3PO and R2-D2 are coming in 1:6 scale from both Medicom (soon) and Sideshow (later), so you’ll have an excellent selection of droids to add to your collection. Yes, we are looking at other Jedi candidates - we’ve felt their recent absence and hope to add some momentum to the Jedi Order in 2010 and into 2011. Dooku - definitely and sooner than later.

Even without this quote, I don't see any reason to think that Sideshow would never make surefire sellers like the droids, but I do think that they're going to wait quite a while before they do it. As in, we'll be lucky to get an announcement in 2011.

I'd like to get them as they are my favorite SW characters, but that price is nuts.

They are VERY nice looking though.

are you :toilet_cl :horror me?????
:rotfl:lol:rotfl

My sentiments exactly. At that price they better be made of a lot more metal and a lot less plastic. Thanks, but no thanks Medicom. More power to those of you with the $$$ to throw down for these two. Think I'll sit them out and hope Sideshow's are a bit more in line with my budget. Regardless, I still think Sideshow's will be better.

What are they smokin' and can I have some? $200.00 for an R2? $200.00 for a C-3P0? Those prices are insane!

Those are looking much better than the dull, matte paintjobs we saw in earlier pictures...

however nice they look, they look really ugly to me after seeing the price...

If 3PO was priced around $130, I might consider saving up enough to get him... but knowing that his body is likely to break and that he would be too short to display with other figures... well I wouldn't get him at $90... much less $200...

Maybe I'll find a Hasbro TC-14, paint it gold, install some joints, remove the sound chip ("Please make yourselves comfortable. My master will be with you shortly." :lol), and re-wire the eye-lights so the button is a switch, instead of the eyes turning on for 5 secs while TC-14 talks and then switching off again... :D

OMFG, Medicom is ridiculously over priced. I wish Sideshow would just cut them loose. Who keeps buying their friggin' rip-offs, I mean high-end collectibles, and justifying Medicom's price tags.

And 3PO's 'face' is horrible. Light-up R2 is pretty awesome, but not for $190.

Save us, Sideshow. You're our only hope.

Way too expensive, but keep in mind that Medicom figures tend to sell for way under retail after a while, even brand new. Han was about $180 but you can get him for a lot less.
