I also have some minor issues with 3PO. His face is stylized (kinda shrunk in comparison to his head) and there's no underlying body, which I think was a blatant shortcut by Medi to lessen production costs while maximizing profits. Disappointing.

What would be the benefit of having a body underneath 3PO? Its not like having a 30+ articulation joints gonna help him pose more.

People just talk about it and talk about it till it's blown out of proportion and one believes it's so ____ed up you would never want it. Then when you get it in hand you wonder what the fuss is about.

Never had a problem with Medicom's scale myself. Some people are picky about their toys height. If .25 -.5 inches bothers you stay away. If you enjoy genuine coolness, and well done SW figures, and are not put off too much by the price....Indulge. Scale is the LEAST of my worries with these figures.

(Always loved what medicom has offered, just never liked the $)

I agree completely that people blow the size differences way out of proportion. Vader was the only figure that the scale difference seemed to really bother me. Since his size is such a prominent feature of his character, he looked out of place with the Sideshow figures. Figures like Boba, Jango, and Yoda look completely fine next to Sideshow offerings even though they are a little small scalewise. I bet that only 5% of collectors would notice the difference...most of that 5% seem to post in these forums :)

The truth of the matter is that Sideshow figures aren't so great with scale either, especially when you compare figures that came on the buck body with the newer prometheus bodied figures.

Medicom figures are overpriced though. I have decided that with new releases, it is smart to just wait a few months until they get to around $100.

Yeah. Unfortunately. Don't get me wrong, the detail is awesome, and the light-up features - though gimmicky- are cool, but 3PO will likely be as short as Leia and R2 not even being to scale with 3PO, ridiculously undersized. That, added with the fact that they're $200 a piece make them an easy pass. I have some awesomely weathered Hasbro droids that fit in just fine until Sideshow releases theirs. And with how well the clones have been turning out, I'm not the least bit worried.

That said, if you have $400+ shipping to blow, and don't plan on displaying them with any Sideshow figures, go for broke. They're awesome figures!

I hear you, but I guess I was refferring to the scale between 3PO & R2 being out of whack scale wise. Still tempting but pricey.

Hmmmm same people _____ing about Medicom again yet they're STILL in this Medi thread. Christ i know if i had no intention of buying a toy i would not sit in a thread and constantly talk about something i was not interested in getting. It's almost as if some people can't stand SS having some competition. (even if most people already go for SS) The same people i see post things like "don't like don't buy" about SS keep coming back in here :thud::rotfl

:exactly:

I think NAM makes valid points, blunt but still valid. :lecture

From a company charging $200, I'd expect more realism.

He can't deal with anybody who doesn't share his opinion. :lol

That aside, I'm also wondering how well R2's third leg is gonna hold up before the internal mechanics (likely plastic) snap/break, with how it's extracted and then retracted. Looks like you gotta push fairly hard to retract it and Medi isn't known for their durability.

I hadn't seen the video. Those are pretty darn awesome. But I gotta say, the price and scale are insurmountable for me. Even if the price was in line with Sideshow, the size issue would ruin it for me. I haven't seen first hand the differences in scale, so I can only go by what I see posted here.

Particularly this one from Faststreetsofhongkong in the Indy forum:
<a href="https://s663.photobucket.com/albums/uu359/sparksr_2009/?action=view&current=DSC04796.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="https://i663.photobucket.com/albums/uu359/sparksr_2009/DSC04796.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

I know he altered his Indys to be taller and more proportional to the giant noggin Sideshow gave him, but the Medi Indy on the far right looks teeny tiny there next to all the other ones (some of which I believe were only ported to True Types or other regular 1/6 bodies). If that is the scale difference between Medis and Sideshows, then I don't think I'll ever have an interest in mixing the two lines.

Like defending the price tag, that's an irrational argument. But Medicom fans sure won't hesitate to pop into a Sideshow thread with claims of an inferior "stylized" likeness being more accurate. :duh:duh:duh

Hey, you know what? I think Medicom's human likenesses suck. That's, you know, why I haven't bought any of them.

Where does that leave your crazy Medicom Vs Sideshow world view now?

That wasn't aimed at you, merely pointing out that your "generalization" about Medicom fans isn't true. :lol

I have to say, these are two very impressive figures, I'd even say Medicom seems like they stepped up their game with these two, going by the photos at the start of the thread, I expected these things to look like nice, articulated vinyl figures, the metallic finish on 3PO and the lights and all on R2 is just really stunning. I agree with those saying this has set a bar for Sideshow, other than the scale issue, I really don't see a lot that could have been done better on these.

Well maybe I just haven't seen the same trolling behaviour on here from Medicom fans that I have from Sideshow fans. But then, I guess this is a Sideshow board.

In my admittedly brief experience it seems to be a case of:

Medicom Thread = Sideshow fans _____ing

Sideshow thread = Well, Sideshow fans _____ing again really.

It's a bit sad really. These are all such cool toys, all this bizarre ____-waving really depresses me.

Edit: Ha! This forum censors the word "Beyatch". Only in America...

How positively "un-biased" of you. :rock:rock:rock

Try reading the first 20 or so pages in the Stormtrooper photo thread. ;)

Try reading any Medicom figure thread.

Anyway, I'm sure there are plenty examples of people being biased on both "sides". It just baffles me that there are sides at all.

I think it's human nature to some degree. If you've followed video game consoles or home video (e.g. HD-DVD vs. Blu-ray) you know that people seem to like to create rivalries like this. And once people have made a decision one way or the other, they tend to want to reinforce that decision to make them feel like they made the right choice. It's funny how people who care so much about scale that they would never consider a Medicom figure don't seem to notice that Sideshow's Vader is about an inch too tall.

I don't really like Medicom figures in general, but I don't dismiss something out of hand because it's from Medicom. Clearly, despite whatever faults they may have, these figures are amazing. Sideshow has their work cut out for them. People expecting Sideshow to produce their versions with this quality and in perfect scale for half the price may be in for a rude awakening. And who knows when they'll actually show up. People have been saying that they'll wait for the Sideshow Bob Fett for years now. In the meantime, I have a nice Medicom Fett in my collection that I got for less than Sideshow's armored figures cost now.

Like I said earlier. You new so you don't know how things where in the past when it was just the opposite. Things have mellowed really IMO.

I like Medicom. I've had many of their figures. I just think for as good as these are Sideshow's will be that much better.

yeah seriously - i remember the VHS vs BetaMax riots of the early 80s. my dad's car got torched coz we had BetaMax. the sight of BetaMax machines hanging from trees on 5th street still haunts me. you guys should be thankful the medi SS situation hasn't escalated to that yet.

You mean when you were SS's number one apologist? And when someone ever said anything remotely negative about SS you went on a 5 page rant? The NAM is calm and passive compared to how you USED to be. Glad to see you have grown a little.
(and it was NEVER the opposite, Medi fans have ALWAYS been attacked and called names here, just like they were at RS. It's just not on the same level as before, not even close. But there were always one or two real doohickeys on both sides that made things worse for all)
:peace

Anyways it's old hat to me.. the scale issue is sooooooo 2006

I don't visit this thread or even the SW section often, but I poked into this thread just so I can say "dammit that's a nice looking figure".

Neat!

Still too expensive (and undersized) for me to get 3P0, so I'll wait for Sideshow's droids... in 2036. But I'm an R2 completist and like how Medicom's looks. I'll get that one as well.

Farewell once again, SW section. I will visit again next year.

Great post.

And yeah, you're right about brand loyalties. I should know by now, after all I grew up with C64 Vs Spectrum wars in the playground.
