Snake was a well-versed linguist of wisdom in MGS 1 and 2, and everything about him was cool and confident. But, then he suddenly became depressed and at the butt of everyone's jokes in MGS 4. I hated the change.

But, my biggest issue with MGS 4 happens to be "Old" Snake. There was no reason for Kojima to kill off Solid Snake so fast, if he was still going to continue the series. Everything about Kojima's handling of Snake has been blatantly premature. He tried to replace him with Raiden in MGS 2 - just one short game after his reintroduction to the gaming world. And then in the next game that features Snake (MGS 4), he suddenly turns into this old man who has practically given up on life.

Big Boss gets five game (with more to come), but Snake grows old and dies after three games, because Kojima has always been trying to get rid of him. So, all things considered, I absolutely refuse to say, "huzzah for Old Snake" :lol.

I get what your saying but I guess I just saw it another way. Solid lived his entire life for other people, trying to solve the worlds problems and it cost him his health and his personal relationships and just about everything else. MGS2 when he tell Raiden to go live his own life its because he doesn't want him to end up like he is. Snakes Self sacrifice is the best quality of the character. Big Boss has only one motive and thats avenging the Boss and fulfilling her will (I think?) and doesn't have near the compassion or nobility of Solid Snake. And for the record Solid has 4 and a quarter games and Big Boss only has one thats a console release soon to be two.

If Big Boss is lacking character development then Solid Snake is like a white piece of paper... Big Boss came in the middle of the series with a game that is about camp and nostalgia, he smiles a laughs he exhibits a variety of human emotions that the old one doesn't and I like that, they are different. He is full of dramatic irony, its stronger characterization in general IMHO

You've just described Naked Snake. When he turns into Big Boss, he becomes a downer who's constantly crying over The Boss. He's like that from Portable Ops all the way up to MGS 4.

From front to back, MGS1 has some of the most legendary boss battles in history.

I still think nothing tops REX.

Maybe i’m oldschool but the fight with SS and Liquid on top of Rex. then this

I don't disagree with anything you've said. Snake is certainly an admirable character, and he did have some awesome moments in MGS 4. I just wish if Kojima didn't kill him off so soon in the series. He only had two games before he turned into a dying old man.

And thats why I don't get why people think he is the real hero of the series, Solid Snake will always be the true hero.

Anyway, I get how Big Boss feels, it was very hard for me to kill her and its just a game... I would feel just like him if that really happened to me. But it seems he will finally become a real bad guy in MGSV, I really hope so

Imagine if capcom was involved in the series, we would have 30 sequels of MGS2 :lol

I think David Hayter was what redeemed OldSnake for me the most. There were only a few parts that he resembled himself, like his Death Star comment for example.

But with that said he was still more interesting than BigBoss ever was in the prequels

The idea of an old Snake itself is fascinating, but unfortunately it was terribly executed by Kojima. There were plenty of things that could have been changed for it to be more compelling. For example,it would have been so much better for Snake to age between acts, now wouldn't that be awesome?

Kojima said that the idea of Old Snake came from him feeling old. Screw that, he should have read Dark Knight Returns. :lol

Have you played MGS 4?

Have you played MGS 4?

Yeah, it wasn't as good as the old ones, damn even MGS2 was better executed :dunno it wasn't THAT bad though, I get why they say Snake was the bad guy but in my opinion he is not really a bad guy

:goodpost::exactly: the problem could be that he made every game since MGS to be the last

It would have made for a better transition, than to have him go from being youthful in MGS 2, to dying in the time-span of five years :slap. It's like Kojima couldn't wait to just kill him off.

Then you should realize that Snake wasn't a hero at all. He spent his entire life fighting Big Boss the others who would have liberated the world from The Patriot's control. MGS 4 practically negated all of the sacrifices that Snake made throughout his life, and unbeknownst to himself, he was nothing more than a pawn and the instrument of destruction for a corrupt world order.

Yup, forgot sometimes you can't talk seriously about a game here, it always comes to that

Jesus Solidus I'm not retarded, in my opinion that would make him an antihero and kind of a idiot too, but not a bad guy
