I think that Hot Toys' continually improving things is really going to be bad for Medicom in the future. People who collect Medicom figures claim that they are getting better, but to my eyes, they aren't much different now from what they were a few years ago (just look at these re-released Snakes--how different are they, really?). In the same amount of time, Hot Toys has improved so much that their figures clearly look like they are from a completely different (and much better) company.

It is disheartening to see that Medicom seems to continually remain stagnant in regards to the RAH figures. For every great piece, there's about 10 bad ones. I had the comic Spider-Man and Venom and they just never looked right together because venom was a couple inches shorter than Spidey and in addition to that, his hands continually fell off. I was very disappointed in that.

Nevertheless, I will be adding the two Snake re-releases to my collection. I've always wanted them, but the aftermarket price was always too high for my taste. Thankfully, I can get them for a more reasonable price now (even though I think they're still a little too expensive at $165).

Same basic logic applies, though. If you are collecting for monetary value, and they aren't maintaining their value, then you shouldn't keep collecting, right? People collect for various reasons that are all equally legitimate, IMO, but if that is your reason, you might consider collecting actual antiques or something. Collectibles of video games will almost never maintain long-term value, IMO, because the market moves on to new things all the time and after a few months, what was hot is now not.

Well, I'm not going to stop collecting action figures, and videogames :lol. It just ticks me off that Medicom made the decision to re-release a few of their vintage Metal Gear Solid figures, thus increasing the original edition numbers and depreciating their "collectible" value. The Tiger Stripe figure was like an anomaly amongst 1/6 figures - it was extremely rare and "hot" for six years, and I believe that it would have remained hot amongst collectors for many (many) more years, had Medicom just decided to leave it alone, and move onto other things. But, what ticks me off even more, is how long I saved up to buy that thing :rotfl. I just pray that they don't re-release the croc cap figure lol.

I once made the grave mistake of mentioning the problems with Medicom over at Medi-world, and the result was less than pleasant :lol. I currently own four Medicom figures, and three of them have their issues. The figure without any problems, happens to be my Croc Cap Snake figure, and he's kept safe in his box lol.

Well, I wish you the best with your Snakes! It'll be interesting to see if Medicom reuses the same old bodies, or if they'll upgrade to the 301 body.

Lets not forget

On the bottom right it actually says "Metal Gear Rex's copyright...."
Pretty sure that's a solid sign the teaser ain't about any threeA produced human characters. Still makes me more than excited :banana

YEah Rex is first in line but do you think Kojima gave him the license just for that. you know how hard is to get a Kojima License. Im know Ashley didnt spend the money on it just to make on figure

right now it's anybodies guess. what scale/price point should i expect for the rex? i'm new to the premium figure stuff...

I'm not sure about this, but I would guess that licenses are held on a limited time, contractual basis, and Medicom just happened to have the MGS license for several years. But, now that 3A is in the picture, I'm sure that we will see more figures along the way. Metal Gear Rex certainly isn't a bad way to start things off! Hopefully, Rex is going to be limited enough to get my collector blood flowing.

Perhaps with 3A, we'll be seeing a lot more of the mechanical aspects of Metal Gear Solid, instead of just the typical human characters like Snake and Raiden (at least I hope).

Haven't been in the thread for a while and it's good to see so much discussion ^^

You don't really need to kitbash, however, modifications are necessary if you want to improve your Old Snake figure. Head over to One Sixth Warrior, and check out the customization that Golgo-013 did on his Old Snake. Needless to say, the modifications must have cost a lot :lol.

Yeah I saw those a while back but I just don't like that goddamn head :lol

Plus I play through the game the entire time with the Young Snake mask on anyways :lol

I'm so fed up with Old Snake now, that I'm planning to put him under the knife in a few weeks. "Nip/Tuck: Metal Gear Solid Edition" :rotfl

I can't say I blame you. Looking forward to pics though!

If you are collecting to make profits (as seems to be the case based on your post), then yeah, I would say that it isn't worth collecting anymore.

Yeah... I agree. I mean I drop dime like a mother ^^^^er on these things and it's certainly not so that I can resell them in the future... Having said that, it is kinda disheartening when the value drops even.

It's amusing when I look through the eBay listings for the Kubricks and then look at mine. According to eBay it'd take at least $700+ to buy all the ones I have right now (although I doubt I could make that much selling them @_@)

On that note. Anyone have any idea when the new set will actually be released? Any word on the chase figures?

I think Medicom still has the ability to make some pretty amazing figures. Their Chun-Li was fantastic imo.

I would like to see another company's take on the MGS license, however. Medicom's had it for awhile and I'd really like to see a more expanded character roster from the entire series.

I agree. Even though I hate Medicom, I love Medicom and they were my first 1/6th love. They have the capacity for greatness, they just seem to squander it (and our good faith).

At the same time, as much as I'd have three orgasms if someone like Hot Toys took over the license... I still kinda want Medicom to step up their game and move on and give us what we want.

Papo! the figures are getting worked on! not sure when we will see a release! but they are not making just robots!!! :rock

Nice!

On another note, my Naked Snake Halloween costume moves forth! Spent the entire day yesterday customizing a T-10 parachute harness into a STABO and I just won a WWII Colt holster too. Pics will be forthcoming :rock

Right now it seems that the Zombie facepaint will be the most troublesome. Unfortunately the first make-up test didn't come out so great...

Yeah, I'm probably gonna pass on the 1/96 blind boxed chases, anyway :D

I love me some Kubbies, but I don't love them enough to shell out $100+ for one unless it blows me away somehow. Fortunately, I figure the MGS figs won't exactly be as popular as the Star Wars ones, so maybe the price will be a little more reasonable.

I saw the 1/96 Ben Linus Lost Kub go for something like $200-300 at one point, which is just stupid.

Well I paid £100 for my Olive Drab Snake back in the day, so a 1/96 chase, if great, can no way be a pass for me. I am a little crazy for MGS Kubs and a sucker for chases.

Same... I can't afford to drop dime on them like I used to, but I paid $120 on the Olive Drab and $100 on Raiden, $50 on Cold War and Square Camo. Still tempted to buy a box and try my luck...

Part of me hopes that the Chases will be lame like the last set. That way it won't cause me too much heartache to pass on them.

That's insane, guys - $100 for a single Kubrick?! Now, I'm glad that I was never interested in those little "Lego" guys lol.
