I wouldn't say MGS3 is anything like RE4, it still looks and plays like metal gear solid. You can say it brought a lot of new fans which is true, but the game is 12 years old now but even if they were 10 when it came out, they would be 22 today. MGS3 didn't actually do anything wrong really. Sure it's been dropped on people's lists and some of the latter games made it appear worse to some gamers but it's wasn't the start of the end by a long shot

Hell yeah, that was a kickass trailer. I remember the first time seeing it in 2005 and almost lost my mind!

All the plot threads in MGS4, PW and V were pointless and added nothing to the lore that started with MG1. The type of fans that were pestering for Mission 51 are the epitome of what's wrong with this series. I don't mean to sound disparaging, but Mission 51 would fix nothing. Stop being delusional! :lol

What exactly would a full Chapter 3 do? Venom poking his ass into this series already ruined pretty much the series for me. Just look at the ripple effect it has on the rest of the series. We don't know who the **** anyone is talking about in the future when they talk about Big Boss, since it was probably Venom.

Anyone who needed a ****ing answer on how Big Boss survives MG1 needed to get their head examined. Since when in fiction, is it hard to believe the villain survived? Just look at Grey Fox, Vamp, and Liquid. Big Boss is a special case? Please.

It didn't do anything wrong, but it inadvertently poisoned the series. Same thing with RE4.

I think what he meant was that fans refer to MGS3 as the final word in MGS just like RE4 is to RE or Nolan's Dark Knight is to Batman. Don't get me wrong, MGS3, RE4 and TDK are fantastic but some fans act like those are the only entries worth a damn. :lol

That's true, I think of it like this.

If mgs3 had come before mgs2 but everything after was still the same, MGS3 would still stand up so its hard for me to say mgs3 is the RE4 of the franchise.

You'd still have the same fans and whatnot, there's only 3 years between mgs2/3, if mgs2 was the third game to be released, would people say the same about 2?

I think the consensus would be the same since everyone hated Raiden and couldn't look past that.

I just wish the games from MGS4 onward were still the tightly written narrative, in a medium sized map but had a story with a scope much larger than the boundaries in the game. No game did that better than MGS2 IMO.

Good point. I would say another thing MGS3/RE4/TDK share in common are that they're all soft reboots of sorts, all working harder after a low point in each series. MGS3 was a result of the poor fan reception of 2, RE4 was due to the hampering sales of REmake and TDK was still undoing the horrors of Batman & Robin and trying to rebuild superhero credibility in movies.

Like I said, they're all masterpieces but they also inadvertently made people judge their respective series by just one entry, which always isn't good. Unless the series had only one good entry, such as those Hangover movies. :lol

It's still a shame they never did another solid snake game (leaving out mg1/2).

I mean we got mgs1, A quick chapter of badass snake in mgs2 and then straight to old boy snake who doesn't really seem anything like snake from MGS1/2.

At this point, I wouldn't want another solid story I don't think. MGS4 was the chance they fluffed

I saw someone post that mgs4 is the pinnacle of coherent story telling :lol

I'm just stunned that V's big reveal at the end, is the main focal point of MGS2... which everyone hated... but they eat it up in V? Does anyone truly love Venom? What the hell for? He barely spoke, and Big Boss is just a cameo.

He's full of hope in his dialogue at the end of MGS2. And in MGS4 he has a death wish and doesn't have an iota of the vigor he used to have. I've mentioned it before, but now knowing Tomokazu F ukushima was a co-writer with Kojima and when he "disappears" the series plummets in writing quality, speaks volumes. Makes me question the brilliant structure and script in MGS2 was Kojima at all.

I think Ryan said this first in a fashion, but It seems likely Kojima was the man with the plan and ***ushima was the executor.

MGS4 and MGS2 Snake wasn't even the same guy! I mean I get that he's aging rapidly but do they have to make him dumber as well? He also lack any initiative, something Solid Snake should have.

As for Venom, he's not even fit to wipe Raiden's shoes. He's a mute that does nothing, has no character whatsoever and stares blankly at exposition. The best Venom scene was when he saved those kids but even then you're not sure if that's him or an altered personality thing. Riaden had personality, aspirations and a character arc, despite both him and Venom were merely avatars of the real life MGS player. Raiden rejected the players control and became his own man, Venom just gets a pat on the head by BB and punches a mirror, uhh.. epic?

I have to admit some bias here.

I didn't like how they made him the new Ninja. Now this is complete bias because obviously I'm a fan of Frank :lol and it's obvious they realised afterwards they made some grave errors they didn't know how to replace (ninja and liquid). I think he went out fine in MGS1, they might have been stretching having him in any other games because I'm not sure how much character growth there is after he's been cyborged up...

But I agree, he definitely had the best character devolopment, I was going to say biggest but then I remembered Ocelot

I'm with you on that one. Reusing the same exact plot device for Fox I hated and still hate. But, I think it worked out in the end. I also hated how his MGS4 body seems way too fragile while Fox was an unstoppable invisible tank.

Yeah and it's like 10 years later or something

I was never a fan of the exoskeleton in 4, I much prefer the rising version based purely on looks

I've always wondered how the hell he functions as a person at the end of MGS4. Like, what happened to his real body? Can he even have sex anymore? Or is he the unic nude character model in MGS2?
