I'm surprised that MGS3 wasn't everyone's top favorite, I swore that was the popular notion. Anyway for me:

1. MGS2
2. MGS1
3. Rising
4. MGS3
5. MGS4
6. MPO
7. MG2 SS
8. MGS PW
9. MG

MGS1 would have taken the top spot if MGS2 didn't tried to achieve so much compared to the other sequels.

No I started with the first Metal Gear Solid. I'm not the kind of person who holds on to nostalgia or anything, I don't hold on to things like, because otherwise I think it would hold me back as a person. I also put MGS2 above it, so I don't know where you're getting that. Metal Gear Solid 4's story made me like MGS and MGS2's story much more, so at first I liked it more, but after playing, I applied what I learned from that story to them. I wish there was somewhat of a romantic relationship with Snake. That would made MGS4 so much better for me. I was upset that she married Johnny, but I still love it.

Anyways, MGS2 improved everything gameplay wise for me, although I still love the first game, but all those little touches just from the beginning of the game like the battle with Olga, shooting the breezing flap that's blocking your view, shooting on the spot light, the draw distance between enemies, dragging enemies, cinematically, first person view, tranquilizers, taking photos while avoiding the guards' glances when they were acting naturally to their instructor, but coincidentally tied into gameplay, chin ups to improve grip, slipping on bird poop, freezing the bombs, etc. It blows me away everytime you use the sword, and I think it's an awesome gameplay mechanic! I love the Metal Gear Solid story, but MGS2's story was far more interesting to me. I loved all the twists, revelation on Raiden's past, using Raiden's perspective made Snake seem so legendary-"That is not Solid Snake" was one of the best showings of it, the conspiracies of the Patriots and the elections, Snake's empowering speech about faith and purpose at the end, etc. I love it all the way through, unlike MGS1, I like, but it only gets good to me once Psycho Mantis appears. A lot of it is cheesy and derivative to me. I still like it though. I love the game, but you're asking me why I like it better. I also don't want to repeat what happened, because I'm sure you played the games. I'll just say with MGS3, I was heavily invested in the Big Boss, the Boss, Eva, and Ocelot relationships, and while I wasn't a fan of the Cobra unit and other characters, unlike MGS and MGS2 where I liked pretty much all the characters, those characters were just that more interesting for me, so much so that my heart broke for Big Boss, and I almost teared up. I've never done that for anything other than the scene in the Batman Mask of the Phantasm movie, where Bruce is begging at his parents grave and telling them he never counted on being happy. It's also my favorite setting and I like the time period much more. I loved CQC and the various survival techniques. Also, no Otacon!

Hopefully, that's what you wanted. The Metal Gear Solid franchise has my favorite story in any media viewed as a complete story.

If I could rep you again I would, especially on how feel about nostalgia :clap

My following list doesn't include PO though, I never got around to finishing PO since I was mostly borrowing it from a friend so I'm refraining from including it. GZ is also exempted since I consider as part of MGSV which isn't done yet. That said, feel I should contribute with my own list. Here's mine based on my critical views towards the games:

1- MGS3
2- MGS2
3- MGS1
4- MGS4
5- MGSPW

That isn't to say that I hate MGS4, since a lot of the characters and developments there happen to be my most favorite in the series (Ocelot most especially giving me some of my most favorite MGS moments). But I just have way too many issues with its story and overall structure of game design for it to reach any higher for me. PW is great though unlike MGS4, it's more that I think it doesn't offer much else beyond being a solid MGS game; which is to say it's a good game as it is, just not all-around amazing or ground-breaking for me. But that's the thing, being a good game that's "as it is" is sometimes not enough, and with MGS4 actually having some better moments, MGS4 gets the better edge even with all my issues with it.

That said, MGS3 is still by far my most favorite in terms story, cinematography, gameplay, and the amount of enjoyment I've had with spending time digging at every little easter egg or potential interactions with the codec. Main central cast is great too, specifically Big Boss, The Boss, Eva, Ocelot and Volgin. For me it's like MGS perfected at its core: story/characters, game design and overall choice of setting/atmospher. MGS3's execution is how I feel MGS is most suited for in terms of the decisions made in its conception and execution, and I think it will be very hard for any other games to beat its place for me even in the future. My liking for MGS2 over MGS1 is more of a conceptual one in that I really enjoyed how it deconstructs MGS1 and the notion of nostalgia. It was a good slap in the face and one that I didn't feel bothered by at all. Also I really loved how ambitious the whole narrative and concepts that were being tackled.

My favorite MGS moment, and the one that impacted me more than any other game I played for that time, was Gray Fox's battle and death against REX. He also left Snake, with what I deem, as the greatest single quote in MGS history:
"Snake. We're not tools of the government, or anyone else. Fighting was the only thing - the only thing I was good at. But, at least I always fought for what I believed in."

As for the order of my favorite games:

1. MGS 1
2. MGS 3
3. MGS 2
4. MG Rising
5. MGS 4
6. MG 2
7. MG 1
8. MGS PO
9. MGS PW

MGS 3 did a fantastic origin story with Big Boss, and up until several years ago, I would have considered it my favorite game of the series. But, there's just too much to love about MGS 1; from it's originality, to the closed nature of its storyline - in that, Kojima could have started and ended the series with just MGS 1 alone.

My list
MGS 1
MGS 3
MGS 4
MGS Pw

Where's MGS 2?

This is my most memorable moment in MGS too, it's one of the reason i like Grey Fox as a character so much

The dynamic between him and Snake and the story they fleshed out for the both of them is a really good and

Also i think he's the character that's had the most impact to a game from all the titles

rising is definitely more action packed but i think theres more to do in 4. i didnt play rising like you guys did anyway. i see how you guys gave it a higher rating.

i saw what you guys were writing the other day about old snake and otacon being executed at the end. i think that would have been an excellent ending. itd have brought tears to my eyes and made a real impact on me. **** the staff for not letting kojima have that one. it was a brilliant idea.

on a side note, do you know anyone whos trustworthy to send my mgs sculpts to for paint apps? i want to send the heads on the bodies so everything will match.

Zelu is your man buts he's back up and doesn't have much time. Plus he's in the UK so would be more for you guys due to the currency conversion

He is your man though

yeah, i know. wasnt planning on sending them 1/2 way around the world. my solid snake is almost done aside from his belt/pouch rigging. i really want to paint the head and have all the colors but i am scared shitless to do it.
