Got my Old Snake as well...I got the paint flaking on his left hip only and the glue on his butt armor was coming off. These were flaws right out of the box and not from any movement.

For the price he was from Sideshow, I'm sending him back for a replacement.

I may coat my replacement's hips with a little super glue to keep the paint sticking.

I don't mind the room between the suit and the body inside. It's not too bad.

Great figure but Medicom should've just looked out for these issues.

Hey guys this is my first review so don’t expect too much. I will try and give you all the info you need so you can decide whether to buy Old Snake or not.

The Box: 9/10

As usual, Medicom has come up with a pretty good looking box, definitely collector friendly. The artworks used both on the front and back were of course drawn by Yoji Shinkawa and are absolutely wonderful. My only complaint is that they are a couple of years old. It would have been great to have an exclusive artwork, specially made for the figure or the one that will be used for the box of the game.

I have to point out the fact that it is quite bigger than the box that was used for the Snake Eater figures. I do not own the Croc Cap version but my guess is that its box must be as big as Old Snake’s.

Sculpting: 9.5/10

The sculptors working for Medicom have definitely nailed Snake. The headsculpt is almost perfect and is much more detailed than Naked Snake was.
The wrinkles are there and make Snake look like he’s ready to take on Liquid’s army any time. If you thought Snake looked as pissed as a playmobil, that’s because some people used the flash which made his eye look a bit weird. However when you are looking at the figure in person, he looks just like he does in the game.

With a little repaint, the head would be jaw-dropping.

The hair is extremely well defined as well and has a nice silver finish to it.
Now let’s tackle the best part of this figure: the suit. Like you might have heard, this figure is made of a poseable body surrounded by a soft rubber suit.
Snake’s octo cam is 100% accurate to the first videos that were released in 2006. The design is extremely cool and makes Snake look like a real bad ass. He is extremely muscular, just like in the game.
The rubber used for the suit looks durable but only time will tell.

Paint application: 8.5/10

There is not much in this figure that required to be painted except for the head and the suit which only has a couple of different blue tones.
The paint app on the face does look better than what Medi came up with with the Snake Eater figures (except for the Zombie camo version which was amazing). Snake’s skin tone looks more realistic, the hair has some different shades.
As for the suit, I have seen that some people had a few issues with the paint apparently tearing apart. My figure does not have this problem. The paint app on the suit is not flawless but I don’t have any cracks on it. Anyway, be careful when taking him out of the box. You shouldn’t have any problems.

Poseability: 5/10

Let me get this straight, Snake is NOT Spidey so don’t plan on giving him any fancy poses. The suit does not allow much poseability and that’s just too bad.
However you can still give him some very iconic poses notably when he is using his CQC. I guess this figure is not meant to played with but that’s fine with me.

Accessories: 3/10
The huge lack of accessories is the biggest drawback imo. For a 150$+ figure, I would have expected more than 3 accessories: an M4, a SIG GSR and a CQC knife.
To be honest, the weapons are poorly done. The M4 is rather crappy and has almost no details. The CQC knife is no thicker than a piece of paper which makes it look a bit ridiculous. The design of the knife is cool though. As for the handgun, it’s the best of the three imo but, still, it’s far from HT’s quality standards.
The ultimate accessory would have been the metal gear MKII. The small robot Snake uses on the battlefield to spy on the enemies or to take them down. Too bad Medicom did not think of that.

Overall: If you are an MGS freak: 9.5/10 If not: 8/10

This is undoubtedly one of my favorite figures. It’s big, impressive, very detailed and totally bad ass.
If you are an MGS freak, do not hesitate. With the game coming soon, it even feels better to own this figure now! I feel like I own a part of the game already.
As for the people who never played an MGS game, they might find this figure expensive because of the paint issues they have heard and the total lack of accessories. Anyway a friend of mine who had never heard of Metal Gear Solid found this figure so amazing that he bought it. That’s his first figure ever! That pretty much sums up how cool this figure is.

And now some pics:

WTF!?! He has a knife sheath on the back of his outfit and it's attached with SILVER TAPE! :monkey4 :monkey4 :monkey4

RIDICULOUS!!! Bad form Medicom!

i wonder how long it takes for the suit to start cracking up in that pose,i dont dare posing him like that.

It's been two days and no signs of cracks. I will change the pose tomorrow and will post some pics.

For the price point, it really seems like they dropped the ball with "Old" Snake. I am just going to wait for Medicom's 20th Anniversary 7" line:

Sure, the outfits are sculpted, but I can get all 5 for half the price of old Snake.

I did this evening - nothing. Besides, I can be patient ... no way I am paying overseas shipping cost. Any reviewers or better pics out yet?

This is just a heads up for people who are interested in the new MGS4:GOTP Solid Snake. He is crap. Plain and simple. He feels weird with has a jell-oish body type from Medicom and his main belt/webbing is the wrong color. And to make everything worse he has a doll type of paint app on his face and he is the most expensive RAH from the last few years. Oh and no wrist joint which makes him harder to pose in his wobbley body. Ugh I am truly disappointed in Medicom since I own the Naked Snake from Snake Eater (which is vastly superior) here's hoping Raiden turns out decent. Buyer beware. :monkey2

I think the main problem is that Medicom did such an excellent job on the MGS3 Snake figures that it was almost impossible to surpass that offering.

Yeah, but I think that if they had just stayed with the old design, I think this would have been an amazing figure. I think the head sculpt is dead on compared with the game. I just think they went too far with the suit. They couldn't figure out how to make it work. But I think if they would have used a muscular style body as the suit, the tight fitting rubber kind from the military figures, they it would have been ok.

So mine will just be standing in the rear, not doing a pose. :monkey2

I should be getting Old Snake tomorrow, and even though there are negative posts, I still cant wait. Not sure what it is...maybe I'm just a big Metal Gear freak. For those that own him, is it easy to get him in the pose that all the stock photography have him in? Thats how I want him to stand along with my Zombie Snake that is in a CQC pose. I'll try to get some pics up for those who are on the fence.

Man, those look nuts. I have no problem waiting for these. WHen do they come out US?

I emailed bbts, they didnt have a date yet,but ive seen 4 different sellers on ebay that has them in stock.

Well, I did a more extensive look - saw a few sets in Japan/China, but they wanted 125 plus 20 to 30 dollars shipping. I will wait for BBTS to get them for that price (82.99 plus standard shipping). One US seller had 4 of them - missing Snake Eater version. I e-mailed him to ask about a set of 5 - like I said, I am not going to waste a lot of money being impatient. A set of 5 or I wait it out til BBTS or Amazingtoys gets them in stock.
