Finished the game up. As I said earlier it's a really fun game but I do have to turn a fair amount of my Tolkien fan off to not be irritated by the lore issues. There is a fairly major one at the end but it is what it is. Still very glad I got this and I look forward to the season pass stuff. The game does end in an open manner to them doing more.

I'm close to finishing, but I might do another playthrough every now and again... its a good game

It is. I really did enjoy the game itself. I need to try some of those challenge modes. I'm done to just a couple trophies left. I need a level 25 rune and get someone promoted to captain then to War Chief so I can kill them.

I've said this already but I would enjoy it more from a LotR standpoint if the caragors were reskinned as wargs and the graugs as trolls. The Orc designs are amazing though, from the voices to the armor to the faces they are perfect!

glad to hear you enjoyed the story josh! I think they aren't shooting for cannon as much as just trying to stay true to the movie universe and create their own story, which I don't mind at all as long as they respect the source. which you can tell the team at monolith definetly have a place in their heart for LOTR, I'm genuinely excited to see where the next goes!
black hand evil powers FTW!

I did when I just took it for some generic fantasy story. I don't think they stayed that true to the movie universe though to be honest. They're taking it and doing their own thing with it, which I suppose is ok. They're being borderline respectful, imo. Like I said above it would give the overall game as a fantasy game an 8.5/10 because it's quite fun. However, I would give it a 2-3 out of 10 when it comes to using what Tolkien or Jackson (who has followed Tolkien pretty well over five films). You all know I'm a pretty hardcore fan of Middle-earth and I have to ignore certain things, but I've seen my fellow Ringwes who are fairly annoyed. I can understand why they are because for us it's something that means a lot. For the average gamer it isn't as big of a deal and can feel like they're being respectful. I really just try to not focus on it honestly so I can enjoy the game.

What are some of the annoyances hardcore fans have about the game? I'm sure some has to do with the whole wraith binding to talion deal?

I've read the books a long time ago, and watched the movies a fair amount, but I'm no Tolkein expert. :lol

The wraith bit is a big one, timing of things is a big one, etc. Those were just a couple things I saw before the game came out. I'm sure there are more now that people have played it and seen what we've seen. I'll check TORn's boards and a couple posts we've made about the game to see what folks are saying now. The way they handled the ring at the end will tweak some folks and it did me a bit.

I read the books every year and have watched them a fair amount but if it helps I don't think I'm an expert either. :lol This is its own thing and for me I don't tie it to the movies or books at all. So it's just its own thing.

that's pretty much how I feel about the game too, it feels like middle earth, and looks like it. but it's definitely it's own thing, I wonder if that's why they dropped the LOTR tagline from the game.

i'm glad they went this route though, as it opens up a lot of possibilities for the future. a series of standalone games set in middle earth? count me in. :lol

It feels a little like Middle-earth but mostly an alternative universe. It may be and would make sense. Like I said I don't view this as Middle-earth so much as something they made up and are calling it by the same name.

hmmm... I could overlook inaccuracies in place of a great game.... :hi5:

I'm overlooking them otherwise I'd hate this game. I agree the game itself is quite fun and so because of that I am enjoying the button mashing and running around. It's just a fan fic as far as what they're doing. I do wish the bosses were a little tougher as well. They were a bit too easy but my guy was totally maxed out by then.
