sucks to see him go, but Panda aint worth $100 mill to the Giants fo sho. Bos better hope he has motivation over there cause he's got 3 titles and a juicy contract, so keeping that weight off may not be a priority to him anymore. Those extra 20-30lbs will make a big difference in his game if he puts on weight. Would be nice to get Lester and not have to overpay for him.

You ready to give Scherzer $200+ million, man?

Lester is gonna get overpaid. Just like all of these free agents being overpaid. I wish I had been good a baseball!

and that's why teams like St. Louis and SF have won what, 5 out of the last 7 titles or something like that. It's so easy to root against teams that think they can just buy titles. I'm actually surprised LA didn't double the price Boston offered for Ramirez :rolleyes2

I was actually enjoying the Red Sox philosophy of not giving out huge contracts. That lasted for two years. Ownership flip flops all the time on what they want to do and it is very frustrating. The sox are a big market club but I would like to see an emphasis on our farm system. Sprinkle in young talent with hard working veterans and spend money on pitching.

I don't really feel that the 12 & 13 off-seasons were a true change in the organizations team building. In '12 they came off the horrible Valentine season and had sold off a ton to the Dodgers. I understand why they were gun-shy that off-season about giving away big contracts. In '13 they win the World Series and then do almost nothing in the off-season. Obviously the results in '14 were not good and they needed to do something to turn things around.

I'd say the Sox farm is doing pretty well. The Portland Sea Dogs (AA) won their division and PawSox (AAA) won the International League title. There's definitely talent on the way up. Some of it is already in Boston with Betts and Bogaerts.

If I were him I'd turn it down, plus you could use the offer they gave to Robbie to gauge what their current max is. I'm hoping they stop with the huge FA spending sprees and dump that money into the farm.

Why can't they do both? For that matter, why is our Dominican and Caribbean system so mediocre? Do these people earn their salaries?

What kills me is that Brian Sabean and a bunch of guys in the SF front office, not even including Righetti, were Yankees men in the '80s. They all reported to George. :banghead

I've heard rumors of Braun being traded to Seattle. If his thumb is healed, I'm fine with the brewers giving him one more shot. I'd rather see them try to get something for C. Gomez. His stock won't be any higher than it is right now.
