I didn't say Colorado didn't belong in the World Series, I'm just saying the level of play the put up in the series did not reflect the quality you'd expect out of someone that got that far. For sure the 8 days had some level of impact, but no way did it affect them as much as they appeared. They seem like a young ball club that will likely turn into a strong threat over the next couple years, but I think they just weren't ready for the drive and experience Boston has.

I started following sports when I was in the 6th grade. The year was 1986 and we all know how that turned out for the Red Sox. I had to wait a long 18 years just for them to get back to the series. Along the way I witnessed them getting swept by Oakland twice and getting knocked out by Cleveland and New York. After the heartbreaking ALCS against the Yankees in 2003 I couldn't help but wonder if I would ever see them win it all. Now we've got two titles in 4 years. Unbelievable.

And this team is set up very well for the foreseeable future. I don't want to start throwing the "D" word out there just yet, but when I think about how three of our starters (Beckett, Dice-K, Lester) are all under 28 years old, and younger pitchers like Buckholtz, Bowden, and Masterson are waiting in the wings, I can't help but feel that we're going to get at least one more over the next few years. I could get used to this. :D

I'll take the heat off MaulFan by just stating that no NL team really stood much of a chance in the WS against either the Sox or the Indians. The Rockies (please don't call them the "Rox", that is so poseurish, imho) had an amazing season and an unbelievable run at the end. But they were clearly out-matched and out-classed in every way during the WS.

That said, I'm extremely happy about our 2nd championship in 4 years. It'll never match '04, but it's still euphoric. And we should be an MLB post season fixture for several years to come. :rock

Indeed, and nice to hear from you around these parts again Irish. I proudly wore my ALCS hat in this morning, WS hat is on it's way from MLB shop :) The emotional triumph of 2004's win will never be outdone, but the overall season this year I think was far more magical, especially with things that still may come. We have a heavy candidate for AL Rookie of the Year, actually a few stong ones, a Cy Young Contender, a rookie pitching a no hitter, we won the division for the first time in a long time, it's definitely been a season packed full of big things. 2004 was pretty much another season for Boston, capped in the sweetest way possible.
