Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

He talks to Ras after his beating. "I'm not going to kill you, but I don't have to save you."

That delivery is badass and intimidating. Minutes before Ras was boxing and kicking his head in. Before that Batman got beat down by Nijas and people drugged by the fear toxin.

So let me ask you - do you think this is realistic? It might be badass, but that doesn't mean it's realistic.

You get one or the other - in the first movie, you get badass. In the second, you get realistic. And when you think about it, that kind of plays into the themes of the movies - the first is about this rise of an epic legend - and the second is all about dragging him down into the mud.

Or does everyone just not "get it"?

Honestly, I think that those people who do complain about it just aren't realizing that Bale is informing his choice of voice with what's happened to his character, chronologically. It's understandable to make that mistake - ever since superheroes have been in movies, they've always been larger than life and unrealistic in everything, including fundamentals like the way they carry themselves.

As viewers, we're just not immediately used to this kind of thing. We're not used to them having issues with their voice or mannerisms after big fights - because we're used to seeing them bounce back up like nothing's happened.

It's a film first and foremost, not a ____ing "REAL" documentary.

Yeah, but you have to realize that one of Nolan's core goals with these films are showing the realistic effects of a comic book hero - both in himself and how he would behave, as well as how it affects the society around him. Fundamentally, "The Dark Knight" isn't about Batman vs. the Joker - it's about what Batman would be like in the real world and how society would react to someone like him.

With a touch of theatricality. ;)

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

I agree that there are parts of TDK where Batman's voice sounds silly. It doesn't affect my enjoyment of the film, though. Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are so far superior to the first four Batman movie crapfests we had to endure, I'm not going to worry about Batman's voice.

Give me Christian Bale's disguised-intimidating-stabbed-mauled-stressed-tired-stuffynosed-diarrhea voice over Keaton, Kilmer, and Clooney any day. :)

Someone's not a Batman fan...

If anyone thinks Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Begins or the Dark Knight is crap they're ____ing stupid. Hell, Batman Forever isn't even terrible and I can find humor in Batman and Robin, especially how absurd it is. I can find merit in all 6 films produced so far be it "realism", drama, psychology, action, comedy, whatever it is.

It's ____ing Batman. Burton doesn't "REIN SUPREME", Nolan doesn't either and Shumacher DEFINITELY doesn't.

There are some great stuff in them, if you're only into one or two and shun the rest, you're missing out.

Actually I am quite a huge Batman fan. I thought Batman: The Animated Series was awesome. I even like the old Batman TV show with Adam West. It's corny as heck, but it was fun when I was a kid and I'd love to have it on DVD now for nostalgia's sake.

So I thought Batman, Batman Begins, Batman Forever, and Batman & Robin were awful. Doesn't mean I'm not a fan, and it certainly doesn't make me stupid. You're entitled to your opinion, just as I am entitled to mine.

Until Batman Begins came out, whenever people (non-comic book/ toy fans) asked me which Batman movie I liked best I always answered "Mask of the Phantasm." And of course, I always got the same response. "What?" hahaha!

Okay, you've passed. I take back what I said, you're alright in my book.

Batman: The Animated Series = Good stuff

Batman: The Animated Series > Batman films

Favorite episode? GO.

So many great episodes. Can't really pick one favorite. I liked "Almost Got 'em." That one was fun.
Night of the Ninja and Day of the Samurai were pretty cool, too.

Also, I can't remember the title of the episode, but one in which Scarecrow gassed Batman and he was having visions of his parents telling him how disappointed they were in him. Toward the end, he was hanging off the side of the police blimp, and finally overcame the visions, screaming "I am vengeance! I am the night!" Ah, good stuff. :)

Oh! Forgot about the episode where the Jazz Man shoots Gordon and Bruce is about to quit. Robin is ready to go find him since Bruce won't and as he is ready to leave, Batman stops him and says "No Robin. This is my fight."

My favorite New Adventures episode was "Old Wounds." Nightwing and Robin end up working together and Nightwing tells Robin about why he quit as Batman's sidekick. I loved the way that story played out.

But, um, no I don't think the Animated Batman looks anything like the DX Batman. (thinly veiled attempt to make this conversation seem on topic) hahaha!!

I cant' quote but I remember Bruce Wayne laying down his plans to Alfred on his plane ride back to civilization that he needs to add theatricals to his appearances to become "ueberhuman" and the suit, the attacking ppl upside down and even his voice is just part of that attempt to distance himself from being perceived as human. When fighting Rah he really did not need to do that though since he was his mentor and knew his identity.
Honestly I wasn't even bothered by the voice (makes more sense to me that "undercover" heroes don't just disguise their face but also their voice, like why don't ppl recognize these guys voices??) But only after all the parodies how can one not laugh about them making fun of the voice.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Black Mask is a guy who gets a mask permanently burned onto his face. How he could even function after that is very unrealistic. That's my reason for doubting it.

As for Keaton, he didn't really have a separate voice as a I recall. And if he did, it wasn't much different than his normal voice, and it wasn't intimidating at all.

No he did Eddy, in fact I believe he (Keaton) was the first Batman to do so (might be wrong)!. And Bale has started to do it in ALL his movies. I went to see Terminator Salvation and the entire audience broke into laughter when he started shouting "John Conner" as if his mouth was full of cookies.

Less is more Bale, less is more...

Nope, you're right. Keaton was the first to do so, but is made more iconic by Kevin Conroy from what I know.

:goodpost: Every word.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS DX 02 - TDK- BATMAN full spec and pics

Bale's Batman voice has never bothered me, and the fact that it's over the top works with the fact that he's a guy that dresses up like a giant bat, and calls himself Batman. I mean if you think about it that's just as ridiculous as his over the top voice. Oh, and hears that close up pic you wanted to see, Void.

While I agree with most of what you said, lets not forget when the Joker arrives. He talks to Rachel in his "Batman voice" and she knows damn well who he is.
