I know Mickey Rourke did The Wrestler and that graphic novel film, the name of which escapes me, which had Bruce Willis and Jessica Alba in it too....but apart from those relatively recent roles - when was he ever an 'action' star?? I certainly don't remember him from any actioners in the 80s and 90s when most of the other Expendables were at the peaks of their popularity.

Well, on the Expendables Blu-Ray, there's an add for the past films of the stars and there's some sort of action looking film with Rourke on there. Also, I only saw the movie once, but he's in Get Carter and I'm not sure if he had any sort of aciton part in that.

I don't think Rourke was about getting an action star though. While the highlight of the movie was to do an old school action flick and unite old and young together for the first time, there were also choices based on screen presence. Eric Roberts was all about being a performer, I think Rourke was about the character he could make, and I think it was a good choice, Tool's entertaining as the wacky tattoo artist but Rourke also did a great job delivering the emotional speech. Some actors can give you one of the other, Rourke pulled off both and I think that's partly why he was picked. Heck, Stallone only had him for a few days away from the Iron Man 2 shoot, he could easily have gotten someone with a more flexible schedule.

Finally...

Barney came knocking a couple of days ago.
Great figure. Putting it together just now.

Oh wait...
that's not Barney, IT'S...

Mickey Rourke as an action star, on the top of my head I seem to remember a few titles that could be fitted in the genre (one or two with a hammer, but never-the-less):

Rumble fish
Year of the Dragon
Johnny handsome
Desperate Hours
Harley Davidson and Marlboro man
Double team
Point Blank
Get Carter

+ small roles in:
Man on Fire
Once Upon a Time in Mexico

Mickey and Sly are actually friends, so to speak. And despite the "small" role, Mickey took it, out of respect for Sly. Sly was the one shoulder to lean on when times were rough. Through the boxing and other ups'n'downs. And when Rourke badly needed roles/money, Sly offered Get Carter and eventually that became the turning point for his newly found career.
Mickey's words not mine... he did a hellava job in The Expendables

The spelling of the "collectible" is wrong that's why they covered it up! :lecture

nice, thaks for checking on that.

so when Expendables 2 comes out, will there be another Barney Ross figure or more of the other members like Lee and Gunner?

 Hopefully not, I don't want another Barney Ross in my collection..1 figure of him will do plus Lee then I'm good w/ my Expendables line. Won't be getting LI's character cause I don't like his role in the movie..not worth it IMHO! :(

Well I picked him up off ebay today. Price wasn't horrid. Can't wait to get him. The figure looks amazing in pics. I'm sure its better in person. He'll look great next to my Rocky

It is awesome in hand, however not as awesome as some of the professional photographers on here will have you believe. Always remember that those guys use controlled lighting and the pictures themselves are large and bring out more visible detail.

I for example, was surprised that this figures hair wasn't darker after seeing the figure under natural light.

I love those guys photographs as they compliment the figure nicely but I would never purchase anything based on their photo's alone.

Still, as already mentioned, this is a fantastic figure. In the running for 'figure of the year' thus far for sure. Just don't expect it to talk or punch you like....(let's use Maulfan)...Maulfan's photo's will have you believe.:wink1:

(professional photographers should take this post as a compliment):clap

Oh I completely agree with your post Vortex. Those professional pictures are beyond amazing, but I thought this guy was awesome just from the original Hot Toys images so I'm sure I'll be perfectly satisfied.

I know what you mean dude. There seems to be alot of interest in those Rocky's now. I got a great deal on mine some time last year. I bought off of these forums. He was a "kitbash" of the Rocky IV figure with the Rocky III head. Yes the color is off slightly compared to the rest of him but honestly it isn't THAT noticeable and frankly I don't care. Great figure. Good luck in your search!
