Re: Molecule8 - 1/6th Scale John Lennon

This tick figure may have been the better entry route for M8 to get their feet wet in the 1/6 arena anyways. Start smaller get the momentum built up to something like John Lemon. People buy obscure crap all the time in this hobby. If it is good and a sellout of something like this made of quality it could have been the best thing for them.

Re: Molecule8 - 1/6th Scale John Lennon

Why do I get the sense that she is just holding a carving tool next to an already finished sculpt?

Like, it doesn't look like she's actually sculpting, it looks like she's posing.

My point exactly. She did this same pose with every Molecule head for future hype.

Because that exactly what she's doing. I've yet to see an "i'm sculpting" photo that doesn't look posed.

Re: Molecule8 - 1/6th Scale John Lennon

That must be why it's $15k for a headsculpt. It's $5k just for the photographer to do the shoot.

At the same time, with how everyone has handled their 'in progress" photos so far, could you imagine if we saw the famed KA Kim with a blob of wax in her hand? Everyone would flip out. "It doesn't look anything like that one guy from the TV show I've never seen and don't care about."

Re: Molecule8 - 1/6th Scale John Lennon

The Tick- another bizarre choice from a company that will not produce a figure in the first place- how did they get the $$$ to pay her??

I wouldn't buy that version

Yeah, how did they? To get that kind of money you'd need to do something crazy, like put an item up for order that was nowhere near finished.

Probably got some weird loan from Nigeria and paid it off with the pre-order money...revolutionizing the one sixth scale figure industry!

Re: Molecule8 - 1/6th Scale John Lennon

Is $15K really the going rate for a sculpt? I mean, I know an artists time is valuable and all, but just 3 headsculpts is already your average salary for the year in the US. That seems crazy expensive

$15K was a number that was put out early on in this thread. I don't know how accurate that is or where it was pulled out from. She is at he top of the list of sculptors in this industry, so $15K isn't outrageous especially when she has worked for HT and Blitzway. The income she has made for both those companies is well above that.

$2-300 for a doll is crazy expensive.

Molecule8 - 1/6th Scale John Lennon

Yes it's 15k plus ,I know people who personally have spoken to her about commissioning a sculpt.

Re: Molecule8 - 1/6th Scale John Lennon

I feel like that's a "**** you, go away" price. Otherwise, collectors would be messaging her all the time.

Re: Molecule8 - 1/6th Scale John Lennon

Nope it's not. She prefers to work commercially and not personally.

Well yeah, that's my point. She's charging an outrageous amount, so she doesn't have all these people on Facebook messaging her for commissions.

From what I can tell, your average sculptor in the Customs forums will be anywhere from $500-$1000 for a commission, which can be manageable for your "discerning" custom figure enthusiast. So, KA Kim comes along and says "$15k" and most folks will not even bother.

Re: Molecule8 - 1/6th Scale John Lennon

she is worth every penny of that 15K if its true.....

Her name alone...Look what M8 did with her star power and renders......

500 to 1k is average.. 15k?? Thats a price for a money bags company

Re: Molecule8 - 1/6th Scale John Lennon

$15k is not outrageous for her. I'm a little surprised it's not more.
She's basically the premier talent in the industry.
She's part of the commercial industry, not hobby customisers making interest threads on websites.
How much gross profit would Blitzway's Rocky and Marilyn statues have made?

Re: Molecule8 - 1/6th Scale John Lennon

I mean it's not just a single person commissioning for 1 sculpt... it's companies with the intent of mass producing...
