Dusty or anyone representing SS do not have to come here to addess anything or take part in discussions, this is not a direct point of contact for any enquiry.
I think the fact that they do shows the kind of company they are and that should be appreciated rather than it getting them lynched if they do, if that continues they will stop visiting and that just ruins it for everyone.

As for the MO, we have some people who have this 'in hand' and think the cloth/fabric is bright red, bear in mind there have only been a handful of photographs posted.
Then we have people who have said they have it 'in hand' (again a handful of people) and it is not as red as the pics shown confirming what Dusty said.

Either way, if you have it on order and really want it, keep the order and wait to see if you like it when it is 'in hand', then decide if you want to keep or return as per their returns policy. You have that opportunity.
Alternatively, if you are not happy/comfortable wth the pics or descriptions given then cancel now and move on.

That looks more reasonable,I would buy it if it looked like that. But I would have still prefered the darker brown.

Agreed.

If I was guaranteed to get one that looks like that, I would be OK with it. Still a little off and doesn't match the sleeves, but at least it looks a little darker/dirtier there.

And for the folks coming to Dusty's defense.... why?

I haven't seen any really offensive comments directed to her. I know she's not obligated to post by any means, and I do appreciate her input as well. ...but folks have a right to disagree with anything that's said by anyone, right?

I swear, I love SSC's products as much as the next guy, but damn... some of you people take the over-protective stance a bit too far.

The leather in the production pics looks kind of shiny. Just sayin.
I guess that could be lighting though, right? These proto pics hardly look like the first "in hand" shots that to me, almost looked orange. I think the production piece photo colors look pretty good. Now, do I spin the roulette wheel and bet red or cancel? Seems like there's going to be a somewhat diverse range of color shades.....

I have no problem with people discussing a product that looks different than what they thought they were getting. Constructive criticism is good and it let's Sideshow know that they need to work harder at getting the final product to look more like the Sideshow photos that people place their orders from. There were people who called Sideshow liars - I think that is crossing the line. Several have said the red is more maroon...several have said it's bright red - I don't think anyone is lying. There's a tactful way to go about this and then there's the rude way. If the people of SSC who participate on this board feel they are being treated disrespectfully, what would make them want to continue to participate on this board? Obviously if you have a problem with the piece, return it or cancel. Yeah having to pay shipping charges sucks, but that's the way it is. I just don't get people who are so eager to go off on someone when they haven't even seen the piece in person yet. Those that have it, have rights to gripe - but like I said, if everyone can be civil I'm sure their voices will be heard a lot better than those who just throw out snide remarks.

This explains a lot, but given the discussions going on here it appears that this process wasn't very well understood previously. Is this posted on your Web site somewhere? If not, perhaps it should be? This type of information shouldn't be just relegated to the forums and posted AFTER collectors perceive there is a problem.

To help clear this up on a couple of levels... first photos are normally marked prototype when they are 'prototype pending approval' - meaning something may change fairly drastically once it goes through the licensor approvals and we want that to be clear. (as for QTVR, I'm not sure what makes them put the proto warning on something and what not to... perhaps they put Prototype on it to be completely safe if they don't know for sure when they're shooting it)

Plus, 'in real life' it's not that red (at least the straight-out-of-the-box sample that I saw here in the office isn't), and everything else is spot on.

Second, there are also multiple levels of production samples, including a "pre-production" sample that is a one-shot that comes straight from the factory for our approval... many times THAT is what is used for photography, especially if it's something that ships within 6 months of it's original debut, such as this piece has. (I think you all remember the wait time between announcing the PROTOTYPE for the Sauron statue, and the final shipment... that's usually the case when we go up with the original prototype - a much longer wait for shipping of the final product.) I'm not 100% certain, but I'm willing to bet the original shots were of the pre-production sample.

Now, that being said, there is a difference between a pre-production sample that we use in-house to send approvals and notes to the factory (and sometimes they go through many pre-production samples until they get it right) and a FINAL production sample... being that there's only ONE of one, and THOUSANDS of the other. As our production guys have pointed out on numerous occasions, it's easy to make ONE perfect.... especially if you want to get that one approved so you can move on to the production run.

Like I said, it's not nearly as red in person. I have no idea what in a camera would be making it such a striking color as some of these shots have shown. It's an amazing piece of work. But I know it's hard to trust what you see on a computer screen instead of having it right there in front of you, so we don't take any offense whatsoever to those who choose to cancel because of that :duff

Dusty is the only SS person to post anything. but I haven't seen her personally "disrespected" or "gone off" on..

the comments have been directed toward SS not toward Dusty....seems the apologists are the ones that have gotten the person and the company mixed up..not the other way around....:huh
