Movie grosses are down from last year (tho think Thor/JL/SW will save the BO)

the fact that you can buy giant tvs with HD screens also means people will rather invest in a good home system and watch everything at home with family and friends. At the safety and comfort of home, without noises or any dangers or anything

Was the public in movies always so bad? I've seen some gross stuff and actually moved my seat at times. Or just people who won't SHUT UP. But sometimes I get amazing audiences. The POTC audiences were fun. But that was in the plush lounge theater.

the first 2 weeks of a movie opening always tend to be bad for me. kids crying, annoying teens. people talking. when the movie is been out for a while then the more mellow people go.

opening week has always been hell. always

I always wait a couple of weeks and then go.

I find midnight releases to have the best audiences. Usually everyone there are hardcore fans of whatever it is (superhero flicks, star wars, etc) and they're pretty much always dead quiet when they're supposed to be. The Sunday matinee is always a good one for me as well. Not very many people there on the 1st showing on a sunday.

Unless the theater is doing something special on preview night, I wait until Tuesday since that's bargain night at my theaters. You can go anytime on Tuesday for $5. If I go on another day, I always go during the day, also because it's cheaper. I would never go on Friday or Saturday nights. Too many annoying teenagers.

I will always love the theater experience, nothing comes close, in my eyes.

The patrons are usually well behaved, though there are some exceptions.

Funny, I have a beautiful AMC 10 minutes from me, and a decent Carmike 15 minutes away. The Carmike sells tickets for $5 ($7.50 for 3D), which pisses AMC off. Last year AMC tried to buy the theater, but the purchase was blocked because it would create a monopoly in that area. For movies I must see, I usually choose AMC, but for the rest, I do the $5 theater.

AMC bought out our Carmike theater. I thought they bought them all. Anyway, our AMC had $5 if you're a Stubs member. What I don't like about AMC taking over the theater is they haven't improved on it at all, and actually, it's gone downhill since. They won't even put what is playing on the Marquee anymore. They just have their website address. If I'm going to a movie and that's all I'm doing, I'll go to Cinemark.

You guys ever wonder how often those cloth theater seats get cleaned? I'm betting never.

Likely they are intentionally running the theater down to close it.

Mine got converted over to those leather recliner seats

One nice thing about catching a SW flick opening weekend (especially opening day) is that since the entire auditorium is filled with SUCH diehard fans (who bought their tickets months in advance) that no one dares talk or miss a moment of the movie by peaking at their cellphones.

I do hate the sound of ****ing wrappers crinkling though, lol.

And people in the back row who reach up and do shadow puppets on the screen, lol.

Though (Spider-Man: Homecoming after credit spoiler):

The only time I've actually laughed at someone making shadows on the screen (and it's actually hella rare that anyone tries) was during Cap's after credit scene for Spider-Man: Homecoming. While he was talking someone reached up and waved and then made it so the shadow of their hand was patting him on the shoulder.
I lol'd because it actually added to the absurdity of the PSA. Thankfully our local 15/70 IMAX auditorium has the camera projector up so high that there's no way anyone could reach it from any row.

That would be silly on their part since they're the only one in the city. The closest one to them would be half an hour or more away.

They won't spend money for upkeep, rather let the poor conditions steer others to their premium theater. While the $5 theater will only attract those who couldn't afford a movie anywhere else.

AMC did buy a Carmike about 25 minutes away, and that theater is very rundown, you couldn't pay me to see a movie there. Meanwhile the Carmike they could not buy features plush seating, reserved seats, it's just not as polished and the seats don't recline, which I don't care about. Within 30 minutes, I have many theater choices, the Carmike that AMC did purchase, doesn't even have stadium seating. There has been talk that theater might close its doors.

Yeah the constant digging to the bottom of a candy bag or popcorn bucket, loud popcorn crunchers, and the ones who desperately try to violently slurp the last little bit of soda through their straw drive me insane
