Some posters I've always wanted that were just plain to expensive, I've resigned myself to reprints. (Fakes.) Thankfully, people can make really nice fakes these days, as long as you KNOW they're fakes and not just some jerk trying to rip you off

My white whale was always the original Revenge of the Jedi one sheet. Well, turns out most of them were folded, which is hideous anyway. About five years ago I got a gorgeous 1:1 (rolled) on ebay for $20. No regrets. I just tell people it's a fake...in that case I'd rather have a fake than nothing.

As far as legit, genuine posters go, I don't have many, but I love the ones I do have.

Fight Club double sided theatrical lobby poster:

Here's one of my favorites....not a super well known movie, but damn if it isn't an incredibly striking image with all that negative white space and the faux surgeon general's warning. In row after row of busy colorful posters in a lobby, this one just popped: double sided lobby poster for "The Insider."

I have an original 1999 Matrix lobby poster but it was folded so that bummed me out

Another original lobby poster I have was for the indie movie "Happiness".....Daniel Clowes art. I guess this one isn't for everyone:

Over Christmas I was in Osaka and saw something I never thought I'd see in real life: the actual lobby poster for the anime film "End of Evangelion." And only $15!! I snatched it up immediately.

Speaking of anime, my prized possession is the original 1990 US lobby poster for the English release of AKIRA. I can't imagine there are a lot of these around anymore....genuine ones anyway. I never see it for sale. I got it around 2000 for $20....what a treasure:

And not really an actual movie poster, but in the mid 90s what kid didn't have the oversize 3 foot by 5 foot Pulp Fiction poster in their dorm room? I sure did. Sadly, mine got ruined by water damage. I miss it.

That's it for movie and movie related stuff....don't get my started on concert and comic book posters!!

Oh crap....one more from me. I don't own this. I tried to get it but the Japanese theaters just weren't having it....

I just LOVE the Japanese poster for Django....got the rising sun in there and everything.

I refuse to buy the Japanese version of the bluray though cause the brief scene with exposed dong is censored cause of the stupid prude genital censorship laws here. I abhor censorship in any form so I have to stick to my guns. Oddly enough, the scene in Kill Bill that goes black and white in the American release is in full bloody red color here, but sadly ONLY available on DVD, not bluray. God I hate censorship.

Ive been collecting since I was 12, and I think my collection is something to boast about. I don't have anything before 1970, but what I do have is pretty incredible.

I need to go through my collection again, but I believe I have over 500 posters. Highlights would include most Star Wars posters, A clockwork orange, every Indiana Jones poster (other than the rerelease), Blade Runner, etc...

Honestly, the list is just too long, I could spend hours typing this.

All originals? No fakes? That IS impressive!
Yes, all originals except (possibly) one. I have 2 Star Wars style A one sheets, it has come to light in recent years that some of the Style A's that were available through the fan club in the early 80's may have been fakes (full size reprints), but I don't know for sure. If it is a fake, it's a really good one. My other Style A is definitely legitimate.

I have that one too.

Mine is 1000% a fake though!
Poster collecting, especially before 1990, can be difficult. Most of those posters were printed in runs of between 3,000 to 6,000 prints. Back then posters were supposed to either be destroyed or sent back to either NSS or the studio. I'm sure most managed to find their easy into hands of collectors or theater employees, but time is not easy on paper, and many were either damaged or discarded over the years.

But honestly, if you can get past the collector mindset and just want it for its aesthetic value, then there's no point in owning an original.

I had a collection once, but no space to accommodate it. So I switched to 11x14 framed versions of my favorite posters for my collecting room.

I have 7 displayed and that takes up most of that wall......

That's the thing about collecting, most of those posters are so valuable, I wouldn't dare to display them, so 99% of them stay in tubes.

Reprints, you can actually enjoy.

I've considered selling for years, but that seems like a daunting task.

Yeah, perfect example: my pride and joy is my aforementioned 1990 AKIRA lobby poster. It's sitting safely rolled in a thick cardboard tube in the closet in my parents' house.

Here in my apartment in Japan, I have a 1:1 repro that I just plain pinned straight the wall with thumbtacks. I don't care about sun damage, rips, whatever.

Just like my Revenge of the Jedi poster. If I had the real one and actually wanted it on display I'd have to have an expensive glass frame...one that would easily fall and shatter in my earthquake prone country. Instead, my $20 repro hangs pinned right to the wall, guilt free. That one is out of the sun too...still looks beautiful. Casual observers wouldn't guess it's a fake. I don't care about the money or the authenticity, I just love looking at it.

Now.....comic books? Toys? Records/LPs? That's a different story. I can't stand fakes, bootlegs, knockoffs.....for those items I absolutely insist on having ONLY the genuine article, and first prints unless there's no other option.

I got the Disney Avengers Endgame poster in today. Framed it and hung up next to the TV. Love it. Seeing everyone is awesome and such great color pop on it.

Since I didn't have enough Disney rewards to pick up the AEG poster last week is my only option to drop $100 on ebay for one? I mean I'll do it if I have to but am curious as to whether there's a cheaper alternative.

Keep checking with Disney if you get the points. They did the same thing with infinity war also. I got it 2 or 3 months after the movie hit theaters so you might luck out. I hope you can get it. If I see it again on there I will snag another because it looks awesome.

Sweet, thanks! Yeah if you snag another one and want to sell it to me shoot me a PM. :rock

Congrats on your current one and yeah the composition and colors make this one a must have for sure.

If I can get another one it will be yours Khev. I know your one of the biggest fans of these movies. Has our favorite hero front and center. I need to get the Shield up on the wall too.
