LOL. You guys won't believe what I just did.

After spending my day off asking around about having a custom display made up for the Studio Scale Falcon - I decided to cancel my order.

I've been mulling it around in my head for the last couple hours and just did the deed.

My main reasoning: It's just too dang big.

I realized it while out asking around about a custom display for it tonight.

Instead - I'm going to buy the Fine Mold's kit and built make a go at building one.

And I'm also getting the Bandai 1/350 Space Battlship Yamato :)

Still fun - at a fraction of the cost.
totally understand that...

ive been going through the same thing, wondering if I should buy a canon 30D DSLR cam.....sigh.

That would cost me more than the falcon ever would

Yeah. I guess I was so smitten by the way that big sucker looked, that I didn't think about how the scale of it is pretty cumbersome.

Anyways - I'm looking forward to putting together a model kit. Haven't done it since I was a kid.

The Fine Mold's Falcon is awesome. It's got a hefty pricetage (@$200), but it has so much detail and SOOO many parts.

Here's some hi-res pics of it from HLJ:

And the Bandai Yamato is just too cool (and also pricey - @$450):

The idea of a MF from MR sounded very appealing to a lot of people. Collectors would go on and on filling many threads over the course of many months talking about how it would be their SW grail, wishing for a Harrison Ford signature, etc, etc.

So what happens at the end? either life happens as other responsibilities come along, a reality check sets in about the actual size of this item, or when the the time comes to pony up $2K+ (no display case included) people back out.

Not singleing you out tinister. Just some observations when it comes to high priced larger items. It's interesting that even though you had the cash there is other factors to consider that many people overlooked in their excitement. Some are paying for it with having a large box taking up space in their small apartments or selling on ebay. Good luck on the kit.

If the Ford sig wasn't an extra 600.00 I'd add it, but that's plain insanity. For 200.00 I'd do it. I'm sure some would think an extra 200.00 would be nuts. To each his own.

Yeah. I admit for sure that the sheer size of it got my heart pumping (and my mouse clicking hehe). And I likely - if for instance I couldn't cancel the order - would have made room for it. I never really was short of space for it - just short of a good way to display it and didn't want to pay another arm and a leg to have it made.

Plus - I've never been much of a collector in the sense that I buy things hoping they go up in value to resell. So when my awe of it's size died down - I realized that other than the scale of it and level of detail - there wasn't anything else about it that justified the price (since I wasn't buying it as a collector piece).

I just want a cool ultra detailed Falcon.

I can have one with the FM Falcon - for much less - with less headaches.

I'm actually pretty glad I snapped out of it, - but that's just me. I don't begrudge others for getting it. It's an awesome piece.

When Home Shopping Network did their big SW show a few weeks and featured the Signature Edition Falcon, I was honestly about 2 seconds away from picking up the phone and ordering one. Then I thought about how big this thing is and how I really didn't have a good place for it. Fortunately good sense prevailed and I decided not to place the order. I'd love to have one of these, but you almost need a museum to ensure that it is displayed properly.

Agreed. This is one of those items that would dominate any room it's in. What most people forget to do is ask themselves if it will look like it's showcased properly or if it will look like it's taking up space.

Tinister: I hear you loud and clear. It's a great piece and more power to those people that can show it off an enjoy it in their homes on a daily basis. As I get ready to purchase the Jack and Indy Cinemaquettes I can relate to the dilema of pulling the trigger on a high priced item.

,.,,,.too bad you didn't get it and had to settle down for a much inferior product,..,,,. :monkey2

,...the mr falcon is probably the most amazing and accurate colletible i ever seen,.....all i know is if i ever get one,..i won't never let it go,...is the falcon to own and no matter which kit you buy it will never be as good or accurate,..

,...and about people selling it on ebay cause buyers remorse,..i don't see any used falcon for sale ,... probably cause everyone that got it,...can't really let it go,....

,..my mission now is to save for one,...

I don't blame anyone that doesn't want to pay the ticket on this or lives in a small apartment, but I don't get all of the talk of this being so huge. It's 32"x24". Not exactly major real estate. It'll fit on a card table.

lol damn youre snobby. sorry mr rich-guy with a victorian mansion :lol

Ah, the old debate of "should I keep my Falcon box"

I think throwing away the box pretty much completes your journey into the darkside as they say. It means that there is no doubt you will never sell this thing or plan to move anywhere far away anytime soon.

Storing that box would.........well, suck is the only word that comes to mind. :D
