Well I've got a 60 gig ps3 that just died on me watching a movie halfway through. I tried to turn it back on and it all seems to be fine but I'm left with no display. It is exactly a year since I bought it today. :rotfl
I have tried absolutley everything whilst searching through google for tips and answers on what it might be but I think its broke. :sick

I've had an xbox since launch day that never died on me and an elite thats also been perfect since day 1 ( touch wood ).

I don't follow much with playstation but did they pull the 60 gig consoles off the market and if so was it because of problems like this ?.

As for buying a new one.. is the slim line worth picking up or is that going to have with problems too ?. :monkey4

Can't help but vent , thanks in advance. :emperor

bro!! call playstation and get a new one !

A friend of mine called them and they send him a brand new one.
I will talk to him tomorrow to see how he did it.

Weird, I have a 60 GB, well a 320 Gb now and have never had any problems with it.

yeah , I didn't think it was even close to going. :monkey2

I'm probably gonna give them a ring tomorrow if I can. I'm sure they can help somehow. I'll let you guys know anyway.

This happened to me once or twice with my old fat. Hold down the power button on the system (keep it pressed like 5 seconds-ish) and if the gamer gods are smiling on you, you will get a screen with the default resolution settings.

I've just turned it on now and its working.:confused:
I tried absolutley everything before and turned it off a few times too so I'm not sure why its working now. :monkey1

Hm..

Nope , just the normal one bleep. I did actually try the keeping hold of the button waiting for 3 bleeps thing to fix it before but it didn't work. Hopefully it wil be ok now. Thanks for the help guys.

Out of the group of 4 friends I have - including myself, 3 of our PS3 died at less than 2 years old.

Sony will offer to fix or replace the issue for $150 if older than 1 year old, I believe

Congrats to you, Hicks, that your PS3 is working again. Now sacrifice a lamb to the Sony hardware gods and hope they spare you.

I have a 2 year old PS3 60gb that's still running. Technically, it's 2 years old but there was a 5-6 month time span in which I didn't turn the thing on.

Tay my 60 gig one died about a month ago. Had it since launch day 3 yes ago. Well devastated!!
It's called the yellow light of death similar to the red ring of death. Apparently the old school units were badly designed and the solder welds around the power unit were prone to overheating and in turn shorting out. A local repairer can fix it for about 90.00 but that may not stop it happening again. Personally I wouldn't send it off to Sony if you'rs does die. You're best off getting a new slim version which is better designed.
I did and although I lost All my saves I'm happy I've got one that works! Do yourself a favour though, back up all your saved data onto a memory stick coz when it does die, you won't be able to retrieve the data without paying for it to be fixed!! Oh and get a cooling fan for it too.

Sorry to hear that. I have a PS3 I bought back in September and it runs much warmer than my 360 and makes a cracking noise from the plastic expanding and contracting (which I'm told is normal) but it makes that noise hours after shutdown and I'm paranoid about my PS3 busting on me.

Yeah agree with that. I thought i would escape the 360 drama, mine had been going strong for years, since i got it 3 months after release, then it eventually RROD'd. fixed it myself, then it RROD's again, then started working. then fine as for ages, then the dvd drive dies. swapped it out, working fine since, TOUCH MUTHA FREAKIN WOOD! My 6 month from release ps3 has never skipped a beat. I dont even know or have heard of anybody i know having theirs fail. And its WAY quieter, and plays blurays. I think ps3 is easily the better console technologically, but the 360 is more fun. I game exclusively on the 360, whereas ps3 i mainly use for HD media/home theatre and stuff, and occasionally games
just my 0.02c
