Thanks for the vids! I'm gonna give that a try, looks so so simple!

Thanks again, really appreciate the help :)

No prob man. :)

What if the power supply isn't the problem? Might be the Blu Ray drive failing.

There's a huge chance it's just the power supply man. I know 3 people whose ps3 crapped out and it was just the power supply like mine. You can do a search like in YouTube, etc where they talk about power supply problems for early gen ps3.
Plus, it's not a huge loss, the power supply is only $30.
The other option is taking it to a shop where they'll charge a minimum fee of at least $150.

In my experience (and I do have a lot of experience with this particular issue), if the Blu-Ray drive fails, the system will start up as normal, it will even play DVDs, it just won't play BDs (movies or games).

Yeah, that happened to me with a 40GB model I had a while back. After just six weeks!!! :panic:
Sony replaced it quickly, free of charge, but I was quite annoyed to say the least. :lecture

Well, changed the power supply no problem (thanks again!) but still the same - tries to start up, beeps, flashing red light... Maybe the HDD?

Typical :(
