I've just turned it on now and its working.
I tried absolutley everything before and turned it off a few times too so I'm not sure why its working now.

If everything on your system was turned on and working, except the display, then it was probably due to a faulty HDMI (or component cable). Either the cable was faulty, or there was a lag between the "hand-shaking" of the cable and your TV set. I doubt that it has anything to do with your PS3's workmanship. If the problem persists in the future, just get a new cable :chew.
This happened to me a few times last year with my 80 GB PS3, and my Gateway laptop. Since then, I decided to swap my old HDMI cables for newer ones, and I never had any problems again :chew.
