Re: Natedog's figure bashes and customs - Echo Station 3TA
I've been working on something a little different lately. I wanted to breath some new life into Lando so here he is. Can you tell what I did?
OK the camera probably doesn't pic it up, so I'll just tell you.
The figure itself is untouched. Yes I did put him on the Bespin stand that came with Boba Fett. I didn't stop there. I was never content with the stand lighting so I re-worked it.
1st - I swapped out the 2 AA batteries for 2x 3.7V rechargeable Li-ion batteries.
2nd - I pulled the whole thing apart and stripped out the LEDs but left the ones in the posts as is.
3rd - I always thought the LEDs in the posts were too bright so I put in a bigger resistor too dim them a bit.
4th - I glued a layer of mylar film to the bottom of the base and a reflector in the center.
5th - I replaced the stock white LEDs with some RGB LEDs. This allowed me to get a nice orangy yellow.
6th - wired everything up and glued all wires to the base so they don't flop around and re-assembled the whole thing.
The new LEDs give a much better representation than the white ones did. Also part of the problem with the original LEDs is that they were mounted on their side, shining towards the center instead of up through the floor. They probably did this so there would not be any "hot spots" but most of the light is wasted.
I really don't like everything being powerd by watch batteries that last only last a couple of hours and sometimes hardwiring into power supplies is not an option, so I've been converting a few things. So far, I've done this and my cantina table.
I was hoping to convert R2-D2 but there's just no room in there. I though it might be doable if I cut off those long plastice post-like projections. After studying it for 20 minutes I realized that those projections house the springs for the 3 spring loaded objects (middle leg, pariscope and life form scanner).
Oh well...
