If you talk about who is "better" then one should consider that guards need more skill to dominate than guys like Wilt and Shaq who just because of their stature they dominated...

Lebron is a greater physical specimen, but until he wins the championship, he shouldn't be considered the best in the league. I'm no Kobe fan by any stretch of the imagination, but it seems pretty clear to me that he's the best overall player and closer in the league right now.

But that doesn't make him a top 5, or even top 10 all-time player. And though I agree that it is hard to compare him to big men, it is fair. When you have discussions of best player, you have to lump them all together. And in terms of overall impact, big men will always have the advantage because they can single-handedly win games. It is even worse for point guards like Bob Cousy and John Stockton, who are frequently over-looked even in lieu of shooting guards and forwards because they rely so heavily on teammates. I doubt Karl Malone would be a household name without Stockton.

Bob Cousy IMO is the most underrated pg ever to play the game. I really do like this list of the 50 best players: https://www.nba.com/history/players/50greatest.html The only exception obviously is Scottie Pippen, who could never have won a title on his own.

First of all, fix the typos. you are = you're. It just makes it more apparent I am out of your league. Secondly, no one calls me a dumb ass, especially because of my opinions on basketball:cuckoo:. LeBron is a better player in my opinion. Deal with my opinion or cry yourself to sleep. You claim Kobe is the best player ever besides MJ! Clearly you have no grasp of the concept of history, because many players have come around who are better than him.

Just a fun fact, Jerry West a few days ago called Kobe the best player he has ever seen..His opinion holds alot of weight for me.. I think what seperates him from the other talented guys like LeBron are his will, focus and dedication. Not to mention is is a fearless closer, an asset most teams don't have. Rings are all that matters.

I have the priv to watch just about every game of Kobe's career. I got to say he is absolutely amazing.. You almost have to watch him day in and out to appreciate that...

But skill is just one factor. Overall impact on the team and championship wins are probably more important factors, rightly or wrongly. Maybe Bill Russel and Shaq were great mostly because of their size, but they won titles, and were usually the main reasons their teams won, so they belong in that conversation.

Oscar Robertson was arguably the most talented basketball player of all time, but he'll never be considered as better than Jordan because of the championships and overall influence on the team.

True, and just because youre big doesnt mean you dominate or have an impact..

I guess you can make a strong arguement for each of the legends, past and present..

I can tell you if healthy, Kobe should bypass Jordans rings and Kareems scoring title. Two feats precious few will be able to claim..

It's great to be a Laker fan..

The only Laker I cheered for, Jerry West is the man. I appreciate Kobe's determination. I have also seen almost every *important* game of his career. He certainly has come a long way from the nervous guard shooting terrible air balls to try and win the game, to a guard who is the best at game winning shots. That said, I agree rings mean a lot but I wish there was more emphasis on a player's importance to his team as well as the regular season. Speaking of which, one reason I love Jerry West is because he carried his team in a losing effort in the 1969 finals. He didn't carry his team to a win, but was rewarded because he did carry his team. Much respect for Mr. West.

I understand that. Those fans are annoying. Most of them have no basis other than just being annoying. Believe me I catch it with my teams and players as well.

That all being said there are fans of our teams that are equally as bad.
Very true on both counts, I really don't talk all that much crap, I rather let my teams do the talking. There are just some fans who are overly 'in your face', I'm not like that.

Do I hate the Lakers....YEA.....do I hate Kobe.....F NO he's the best player in NBA history not named Jordan(JMO). Always love watching them(Lakers) play cause Kobe is very intertaining to watch.....always love giving the Lakers diehards crap too.
Fair enough.

I would place Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, and Oscar Robertson way ahead of Kobe.
I wouldn't argue with that, but he certainly deserves to stans shoulder to shoulder with them.

I ___in hate the Lakers 24/7, well really, any LA team. Thats to be expected for any Kings or Giants fan. All the battles between the teams, and my team not coming on top, of course I would hate those teams. Not hating them just wouldnt make sense when they have held back my fav teams from winning titles. I think any big sports fan would feel the same way, and I know a lot of LA fans hate NO. Cal teams, and would have the same kind of hatred if the roles were reversed. That doesnt mean I go out and disrespect LA fans unless they bring it on themselves, but I think I have the right to hate the teams I wanna hate without someone constantly saying ____ the haters all the time.
You're a Kings fan and a Giants fan, wouldn't be right for you not to hate the Lakers. But when I say '**** the Haters', I'm not necessarily talking about the people here, but the people who I hear crap from on a daily basis. They are the ones that annoy me 'cause they are not fans of Lakers or Dodgers rivals, they just hate them 'cause they are successful.

Wow I get now why people say your a dumb ass. Lebron better then Kobe....dumbest thing i've ever read on this or any board. Lebron has nothing to show for his career to date except some MVP awards and alot of postseason failure.
Come on now, no need to insult anybody.

Kobe definitely has the edge, once Lebron wins some rings, then he can be considered equal.

I had the privelege of watching Magic, Kareem, Jordan, Bird and a lot of other legends. I feel the same way now watching Kobe play, dude does some amazing things.

...I can tell you if healthy, Kobe should bypass Jordans rings and Kareems scoring title. Two feats precious few will be able to claim..

Maybe then people will give him his much deserved props...

...and yes it is! :hi5:

did you miss it when he openly said on espn that he thought Lebron was the best player in the league mere weeks/months ago? Then he goes and says Kobe is the best hes ever seen? I dont know about you, but how can he call Lebron the best in the league, yet Kobe the best hes ever seen, that makes no sense to me unless he meant Kobe was the best Laker he had ever seen.

Lebron has nothing to show for his career to date except some MVP awards and alot of postseason failure.

Winning MVP's isn't exactly nothing though. Not every joe blow wins them. You have to give the kid credit he's a great player with insane amounts of talent.

He's getting as much pub now (you and others feel undeserved) as Kobe did when he came out before he did jack ____.

I've head like someone else say West said the same about Lebron and has said the same about MJ back in the day. Russell, Magic, and Bird have all said Jordan is the best ever. So its still all a matter of perspective.

I agree rings are all that really matters and thats what bring the rest. Thats one of the reasons MJ was so great. He wanted to slit your throat during the regular season and even more so in the post season.

Kobe wants to win and finally under Phil has learned to not be so damn selfish.

I guess you can make a strong arguement for each of the legends, past and present..

Yeah, you really can.

My personal starting five would be:

PG-Magic
SG-Jordan
SF-Bird
PF-Russell
C-Wilt

I can tell you if healthy, Kobe should bypass Jordans rings and Kareems scoring title. Two feats precious few will be able to claim..

Depends on health like you said and if Phil stays. I don't know if Kobe unless its mike krzyzewski. I just don't know if Kobe can keep his ego in check. He still shows signs of it even to this day. Phil did it with MJ and has done it with Kobe. Getting these guys to play for the name on the front even more so than the name on the back.

This series still goes 6 or 7, we won in boston this season, just need to go there and handle business. ____ you Celtics and ____ you refs.

Typical Lakers fan reaction to a loss, blame the refs or make an excuse.

1-1 _____es!

Hard to imagine lots of people wanted Ray Allen gone at the trade deadline just a great performance.

Rondo would not let them lose that game. This really is Rondo's team now.

Thanks for being a classy Celtics fan and not uttering typical hater BS like everyone else here. Still a lot of series left.

Good luck to you...:duff

...but not really. :D

Fun game to watch (Sorry Ill thought calls went both ways pretty fairly). God Ray can shoot the rock. I love KG but man it hurts to watch him right now with his knee bothering him. Series should go 6-7 easy now.
