Either way, I think this is the match up that general NBA fans want to see the most, but I'm sure they still all want to see the Heat lose, like everyone in here except for like 2 :lol. Oh wells.......that's why they play the games.

general fans as fans that don't follow a team religiously or only watch the NBA Finals, not caring about the rest of the season.

Youd take lebron on the bulls in a heartbeat. Lol. I bet you were secretly hoping him and Dade had picked Chicago.

I would've loved to have Dade and DeBron on my team until I found what true jackasses they were...

Yea, I mean honestly, you look at a lot of players that are supposedly labeled as "humble", their team is liked by the nation as a whole because of that label. You can pick almost every team and single out 1 or 2 players as being douches, selfish, etc and all of a sudden, hatred ensues. I can easily pick out Westbrook and Perkins on the Thunder as falling in that category of either supreme arrogance, selfish or just being a douche. Besides Lebron and Wade, is there anyone else on the team even disliked by the general public as much? Prolly not, like you said, hypocrisy. 2 players makes a whole team a bunch of arrogant pricks.

Just like bandwagon followers on winning teams, the same applies to bandwagon haters for so and so player because it's easy targeting. Before the decision, there wasn't any of this bandwagon hating on Lebron in the first 6 years of his career and you know what, Lebron isn't any different of a person, so now he's a douche and is hated for being arrogant. More likely than not, all great players/athletes are as arrogant behind doors. It's just easy to target him now because he made some regrettable mistakes, as it was easy to target Kobe during the rape case stuff. It took awhile, but I'm used to it now. Maybe being clear underdogs for once, according to polls and "NBA expert" predictions will help the Heat.........bench play and turnovers are going to be huge for both teams.

What's interesting is that lebron (and wade on his part) have apologized and said that they wish they'd handled things differently (the decision/celebration). In fact he's made no faux pas this year. He's been a model citizen. Whatever happened to second chances. Hell Society can forgive Michael Vick or Kobe Bryant for transgressions why can't we just get over the lebron hate.

In all fariness, I can understand not forgiving a guy that killed dogs. I like him as a player, but not a person, even though he payed his dues. People pay more attention to the negative things athletes do and ignore all the positive things becuase it's easy. That's just the way ppl are pretty much, when it comes to celebrities or athletes.

There was a discussion about this in the mysteriously disappeared NBA thread from last year, I think. Personally, Lebron annoys the ____ out of me. And he is easy to dislike. Why? Like you say azure, he's no more arrogant than probably 70-80% of NBA players. It just gets magnified because of who he is. He's possibly the greatest physical specimen ever in the NBA. It's like he was genetically engineered to play basketball. When he's on a crap team like Cleveland, it's much easier to root for the guy, because he's trying to bring success to a city that's only known suck with no real talent around him. But when the guy who has it all goes to the place where he should have a much easier road to victory, teaming with a guy who was a former finals MVP and one of the top 5 or 10 players in the league, he feels more like a "bad guy" for some reason.

In the NBA, there are conflicting motivations for players. They are all supposed to want to win, and to win no matter what. That's supposedly the whole point. From that perspective, Lebron's move makes all the sense in the world. But on the other hand, players that want to be considered all-time greats (apparent motivation for guys like Lebron and Kobe) are supposed to do it the "hard" way, without all-star teams around them. Lebron gets criticized in this way, in part, because I think people initially wanted him to succeed with Cleveland. Some wanted to see the greatest NBA athlete around surpass everyone else historically. But if he wins with the Heat, people will always say "yeah, but. . ." Add the foot in mouth comments that won't go away alongside his apparent attempt to take the easy way out to titles, and you've got a guy who both disappoints and is disliked.

But yeah, he didn't kill dogs, or kill a guy, or have 15 children with 14 different women, or beat up women like some other athletes have done. Folks have forgiven Vick in general for some reason, and no one seems to be launching a crusade against Jason Kidd. In truth, he seems like a decent human being from what I can tell. But in sports, arrogance on that level matters.

yea, I agree with that. I don't think Lebron's peers feel anywhere close to what say, ppl in this thread feel towards him cause they can put theirselves in his shoes. The Thunder for example, they got lucky, and had great ownership and got great draft picks compared to Lebron's Cavs. Durant has 2 other all star players around him, with the best shot blocker in the league too. They got that from the draft, when all Lebron had was Antawn Jamison, so even though ppl bash Lebron for "teaming up", there are tons of great players that would rather team up and win, then try and take a lousy franchise nowhere by themselves. The big 4 in Boston comes to mind.

Kobe, Jordan, Barkley, etc will say they would never team up, but you know Barkley would kill to have a ring and if Jordan didn't have Pippen and Kobe didn't have Shaq or Gasol, they would've tried to do the same thing. Truth is, Gilbert as a owner, sucks, and we all have seen why. Again, it's just the flavor of the month, people look for things to bash people because for whatever reason, to watch someone fail (that they don't even know, makes them feel good inside). It's just the way a lot of people think. If you look at Lebron's jersey sales, and the way he is perceived by NBA analysts, we can see that a lot of ppl are over all the garbage from last year, and just love him for being a model citizen and a great player.

If the decision never happened and the parade (Pat Riley is the one responsible for that, and if that never happened, we wouldn've never seen the not 5,6, or 7 from Lebron), I don't think Lebron would be anywhere as close to hated as he is now. Even with the aplogies and such, people are going to hate the Heat until the next hated team/player in the NBA comes.

I don't believe for a second Jordan would have left Chicago (he did have a couple of chances to leave via FA) to do what Lebron did. He's just not wired like that not to mention people would have more than likely come to play on his team.

As I've said the stunts they pulled last year really soured me on Lebron and Wade. They're not terrible human beings but I won't root for them ever again (the lone exception being when they play for team USA). If that makes me a hater so be it.

I can't speak for Jordan I guess, but we all know Kobe was close to leaving, and a lot of great players would leave under similar circumstances. I don't blame those guys, I would want to win just as bad if I were them. I don't think rootting against a team or player because they rub you the wrong way make you a hater. I think we can all see the difference between someone like you and a true hater of a certain player or team. The haters are usually obnoxious and loud with their opinions because they want it that way, their easy to pick out.

Yeah, I'd like to think people can tell if I'm a hater or not. Hell, I used to be a big supporter of Lebron and Wade. You can ask anyone whose paid attention in this thread, and I wanted him to leave the Cavs to play for Chicago. However, the things that happened since all of it make me glad he didn't. The biggest for me is that he really may have quit on the cavs in that last playoff series. That's something no great player would do.

As I've said he will get a ring or two but I truly believe only certain members of the media and his fans will put him among the greatest of the greats. He's a fantastic talent but he's shown me thing I'd take several great players ahead of him.

"Michael Jordan is probably the greatest scorer to play the game, but I may go as far as to say LeBron James may be the greatest player to ever play the game because he is so potent offensively that not only can he score at will but he keeps everybody involved." - Scottie Pippen

:slap:slap:slap

Pippen's comments were pretty crazy. Lebron's got more physical tools than Jordan did, but he doesn't seem to have that same hunger and will to win. Jordan was really freakish in that regard, which is why I'm pretty sure no one will surpass him as a great NBA player in my lifetime. It takes more than physical ability to truly stand out from your peers the way Jordan did.
