Yeah, it truly is a slippery slope. And if you are just wanting one piece to show your love for Burton's Bat on display, they don't get much more affordably-eye-catching than NECA's release. :duff

Man, as hard as it will be, I'll probably have to keep my Burton collection limited to the NECA 1/4 for now. Both for lack of space and money :) You should really consider repainting the NECA figure btw. The sculpt is great and can really shine with a new paint job. I recently removed the mask from mine and gave it a proper complete repaint. Once Tony's cape arrives, I'll try to post some pics.

On a different note, I know how much you love the 1989 batman movie. Are you as die hard a fan of Returns, too? I don't know why, but Returns was kind of a let down for me. When Warner Bros gave Burton full control of the sequel, the film turned out to be a little too "Burtony" for lack of a better word. Not sure if that really makes sense, but the look and feel of Returns was too much like Nightmare Before Christmas or Edward Scissorhands. I still enjoyed the movie, but it didn't leave a lasting impression on me like the original Batman did. As for Batman Forever and Batman & Robin, I wish those movies never existed.

I've noticed you don't own many (if any) of the collectibles from the Nolan batman franchise. I know you've said Nolan's movies were too focused on being realistic and were less like a comic book, but did you still enjoy them at all? I'll admit that I personally felt kind of guilty when I watched the newer films and found them enjoyable. Almost like I was betraying the 1989 Keaton batman I grew up watching :lol But I guess with age, my preferences have also changed, and I appreciate the darker, more realistic story and world that Nolan created. I still have a special place in my heart for the 1989 Batman movie, but I still think the Nolan trilogy is overall the better franchise.

Have your kids seen the newer Nolan films? When are they gonna finally get to see Returns? I thought it was really cool how you waited until your son was 11 to show him the film. But it looked like he really enjoyed it and it was totally worth the wait! :clap

Well, I actually have 2 new ones from Tony- the "Deluxe Battle" and the "Final". Tony has stated that the "Final" is more in line with Batman Returns to him, but I think it works great as an '89 cape. It uses the same material as the NECA cape, so it has that bat-skin style texturing all over it. It also drapes REALLY well.

I should have 4 versions lined up in the video- 1.0/2.0, 3.0, Deluxe, and Final. :)

:yess:

I'm looking forward to that video sallah.

Hopefully you can show as much difference and detail between the capes as possible. I feel this video could really help out a lot of us collectors in deciding which of Tony's capes to go for.

Ah so the NECA figure is basically the 'final' cape on a bigger scale?

That is correct :) and vice versa

I love Batman Returns... maybe not QUITE as much as '89, but it is up there. I can see why some folks may feel the tone shifted more towards Burton on the sequel, but I quite like the look of it. In some ways, it appears visually more like a "real-life" comic book than even '89 does. And as far as the villains go, the Returns versions of Catwoman and Penguin are easily my favorite interpretations of those characters across any medium. :)

You are correct... My collection is completely without Nolan stuff. I am just not a fan of his interpretation of Batman. I do indeed feel it is too "real world" and not nearly enough "comic fantasy" (a balance that I think Burton's Batman nailed). I want a Batman that feels like a comic book, striking a balance between the darkness of the character and the wonder of being in a fantasy world. Nolan's stuff has darkness a-plenty... but severely lacks the other in my eyes. Not dogging those that do like that take, it just isn't for me. :)

The kids are a bit too young for the Nolan trilogy as a whole just yet, since those films are so tuned into to that "real world" vibe that I think it might be a bit much. Watching a movie that makes no pretense about being a comic book allows villainous acts to be shrugged off a little easier than a film filtered into real world situations and mentalities. When they hit the right age though, they'll be free to watch them and decide for themselves what they prefer...

I do think that it is a shame that I have to judge that kind of thing as a parent with a Batman film though... I wouldn't say brighten it up to the point that we get "Batman & Robin", but pulling back the darkness a bit to allow younger audiences to experience that excitement of watching a live-action Batman film would be great.

...and Blaze watched Batman Returns a few weeks after '89. He LOVED it. He has seen both a bunch of times now and never tires of watching it. My youngest turns 7 this week, so I have another 4 years of buildup to do for his viewing.... and then I get to do it one more time with the new baby due in June. :)

I am going to do my best man! I hope it helps!

to be honest, I really dig the Final cape and here is why..... (same fabric as Neca custom cape I made)

I would agree with Tony. :) I really like the Deluxe... but the Final cape is probably my fav overall.

Thanks for your insightful comments, Sallah. Really respect your opinions regarding the Batman films and even more so, how you're a great father to your kids :hi5: I could discuss Burton's Batman films and the Nolan trilogy all day, but I'll leave things alone for now. Don't wanna bore everyone out of their minds :lol.

But yeah man, keep up the great work with your insightful reviews and awesome videos/pics. You contribute a lot to the forum and we all really appreciate it :duff Oh yeah, and congrats on the newest addition to the fam!

Now back to the NECA 1/4 Batman :)
Those are some AMAZING pictures of Tony's cape!!! The third picture is probably my favorite. The cape falls PERFECTLY and is the correct/perfect length as well. It definitely looks like it has enough weight to it to allow it to hang closer to the body, eliminating the bulging "rain poncho" look of the stock cape. I also like how you don't see the thread seams between each section. Also the leathery texture looks absolutely awesome! I don't know where Tony found this fabric, but props to him for finding the perfect fabric to use for this cape. And congrats to all who've purchased it!

^Good point there, jye4ever. Even though it's on the back of the cowl, that PERS seam is pretty noticeable. I'm not a fan of PERS anyway, so another point for the 1/4 :) But in the DX09's defense, NECA's 1/4 cowl has its own pretty ugly seam as well, although it's somewhat less prominent.

Have you guys seen this? I'm not too impressed with the face sculpt. Not being biased here, but I honestly think NECA's sculpt (not paint) is better.

So wrong not even funny.

Wow, they're making my neighbor eddie dressed like Keaton Batman, cool.

The head turn is just terrible. It really ruins it. The head sculpt doesn’t look that bad in the video, but the pictures looked terrible.

The face sculpt on both the Hot Toys and NECA figures beats the Sideshow one hands down. The Hot Toys one does have the best paint though. The SS one has a great suit and base. In fact those two things are killer, especially that base.

I think the bat symbol may be off, too. The perimeter/border of the symbol should be black, not yellow, right?

:horror

Man your cape really does the NECA figure a world of good Tony. That fourth picture is all sorts of awesomeness.

I am going to do my best man! I hope it helps!

Thanks for that Sallah. I will be keeping a close eye on the final cape in your video.

It's weird seeing the Keaton being able to turn his head like that on the PF. No PFs for me, Neca all the way baby!

All he needs now is a decent neck joint. :lol
