Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

To me, the difference between toys like NECA, McFarlane, DC/Marvel stuff, etc. is kids can actually play with those. Collectibles like HT, EB, etc. those figures aren't really kid friendly.

Obviously anything can be a collectible, but that's how I distinguish the two (in a discussion like this).

Try giving a small kid a figure from HT and watch how that thing ends up in pieces and completely broken within a couple minutes. :lol
i've definitely had way more NECA toys break on me than HT figures.

just sayin. then again, who gives their kid a Machete figure? come on.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

I think Neca made the rules when they said "strictly limited to 5000 pieces each". That's why I'm saying they need to keep their integrity and respect. Their are multiple ways that they could get their investment back. One would be to keep pumping them out, and another would be to get to the point that they sell them at a much higher cost. For me I would rather be called a Cadillac than General Motors.
eeehhh... i'm still not entirely convinced if NECA said that or just the store did. but what evs.

and if they jack up the prices, they'll mostly eliminate their customer base. they're not really looking to sell to the HT/SSC crowd. that's... well, that's what HT and SSC are for.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

I see what you mean. I just think that a collectible shouldn't be mass market produced for brick-and-mortar stores. It's just a toy then. Maybe they could have multiple strategies depending on the release.

As far as my definition of integrity and respect, if they say "strictly limited to 5000 pieces of each" and don't follow through, then what was the point of saying that. I guess to have no respect and integrity.

And neca makes... Toys! These aren't high end collectibles; they are great for what they are however ($15 toys). And they still try to be as true to the source material as possible.

And I'm pretty sure they're respected and all that jazz just for making the first 18 predator figure...

Which is fine, except when your customer base is filled with people on a Hyundai Accent GL budget. The day NECA tries to sell their toys at prices on the same level as high end collectibles will be the same day NECA goes out of business.

I don't doubt it. But that's irrelevant to my point. Give a NECA toy and a HT figure to a little kid and see which one falls apart first while they play with it. Guarantee it'll be the HT figure.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

neca figures from the old factory, ain't kid or adult safe here lately, either their broke in their sealed pack, or can or will break shorly after you take them out of their packageing, glad they using a different factory for all their predator lines, here on out.

yeah that got pretty ridiculous. i think NECA said they're changing to the new factory right when the two-packs were being produced and i wonder if that's why they turned out so consistently crappy. oh well, new factory should be somewhat better and the old one can go back to making happy meal toys.
Hell HT figures break when adults handle them. :lol
i never had much trouble until they switched to those new seat stands. i've had a couple top-heavy figures take a faceplant and snap a wrist peg because of those things.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

I think the smaller figures are bought as toys, but I don't see many little kids shelling out $90 for it and trying to actually play with it. I guess I might not have as good of an imagination to try to play with it. Are these even going to any brick-and-mortar stores? I thought I read somewhere someone saying they were to big for the stores to carry. Either way, I think that a lot if not most of these are going to be sold to the HT/Sideshow customer base. I would love it if they made sure to make these high-end, even if they doubled or tripled the price. It would be great to get extremely high-quality 1/4 from Neca, 1/6 from Hot Toys, and busts from Sideshow. That way they could each have their own niche in the high-end collectible market. And Neca could keep their current customer base by just continuing to make the smaller figs.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

Yeah I've said a few times myself recently that NECAs figures aren't good toys. When they are often broken in package or they break when you try to move the arm how can anyone say thats a good toy. With quality control as it is and the careless paintjobs the 8" figures are really in danger of neither being good toys nor good adult collectibles. That guy Fortknox's negativity and general attitude was a serious pain in the ass but he wasn't wrong about everything. I mean ___k, I bought a lot of T-1000s and its safe to say that most of them, not merely one or two, most of them broke either at the shoulder(s) and/or the elbow(s) and/or the neck.

Re: NECA 1/4 Predator

Yep. I certainly wouldn't try to play with them; let's face it, it says "17 and up" on the packaging. But when you casually try to move an appendage for reposing and the cheap hard plastic ball joint breaks on you... nothing makes you want to throw a figure in the garbage as much as that.
I am hoping against hope that this new factory means business, and not just for the 1/4. If the 7" line of Preds is a success, I'll be a happy camper and my faith will be restored in the lower-end NECA lines.
