I think if she was not an SDCC exclusive, there'd be people on here complaining about how the figure will be a peg warmer

It's also sad that something called National Pretzel Day is getting more buzz on the net than Alien Day

It was posted earlier in reference to Rue, being a peg warmer. I doubt that Newt would be in that category. Most die hard Neca Aliens fans have wanted that figure since the original Hicks / Hudson release. Speaking for myself I would be ecstatic to find a shelf of clearance Newts. I have always wanted a diorama of the water scene, also I am hoping that the figure will articulate well enough to be held by Ripley and vice versa.

Like it was mentioned " they " dont want to steal Newts (Carrie's) thunder

Weeeeee...

As you know (how could you not notice?) today is Alien Day, and that means the world is filled with all sorts of Alien and Aliens related products. One of the more exciting releases was the Reebok Alien stomper, the 'futuristic' sneakers Ripley wears in Aliens. The run of these sneakers was going to be limited... but nobody knew that it was going to be limited to men's sizes only. A sneaker made famous by a woman, available only in men's sizes.
Our friend Suki-Rose Simakis, a creative development executive at SpectreVision films, tells us about her experience of learning that the gear of one of the great women in scifi wasn't available for women:

Today is the much anticipated Alien Day and at 12pm Eastern Standard Time I sat on the Reebok website with my finger hovering over the refresh button, determined to get myself a pair of the most requested movie sneakers in history: Ripley's Alien stomper high tops. My bliss at getting through to a purchase page was quickly dashed as my eyes fell across the words "men's classics" and I see that the available sizes start at a men's size 9. "Maybe I can wear like 5pairs of socks and stuff the ends and they will fit!" I think. I was desperate to make it work for me so much so that it took a solid minute before I said to myself

"Wait, what the actual ****."

There are a million op-ed pieces swimming the Internet about what it means to be a film fan while simultaneously having a ******. You know the story, in a number a small ways we are pushed aside, not included and not invited. I'm exhausted with talking about it, thinking about it, and living it. However today I can't but help feel the anger and frustration anew.

Ripley is one of the most badass action heroes of all time. Seeing her kick ass while also being a lady (gasp!) was ground breaking, inspiring, and gave us all kinds of "**** yeah!" Feelings. The fact that Reebok released her shoes today in honor of the 35th anniversary of Alien in men's sizes only is more than baffling: it's insulting. Just another passive way female film fans are subtly told to move aside, this isn't for you.
Chatting with Katie Rife over at AV club she pointed out that Sigourney Weaver wears a women's size 10, and Ripley herself wouldn't have even been able to snag a pair she could wear.

I should note that there is some discrepancy as to what sizes were actually released this afternoon, some people reporting that a men's size 6 (which roughly translates to a women's 8) was even available at one point. Regardless, seeing Ripley's shoes displayed under the MEN'S CLASSICS headline with even the smallest men's size reported out sizing most women the message is coming in loud and clear.

Don't worry Reebok, women are used to fighting for our place at the table. In fact we learned a lot of that fight from Ripley herself.

Good post.

Wow - this could absolutely be the best figure Neca has ever done to date. It looks incredible and there is so much detail, she even has a necklace!

It's certainly off to a good start in staking the claim to that title.

I have to say the most disappointing part of my day was not the lack of more Vaz details. It was not the mystery of the 'not a figure' 'fearsome figure' neca put in the loot crates. It was not the lack of official hot toys statements. It was absolutely that Reebok stomper debacle that makes me nauseous. So poorly executed at every phase. The only people who are happy about how that unfolded are the ebay scalpers. Damn shame.

Well, for me the stompers were never really a concern but I feel for those who wanted them.

I hope they nail the head sculpt, bandana and headset on Vas and I love that she's got some beefy arms and not the stick arms. I cannot wait to see Drake and the rest of series 9. I maybe a little optimistic but I'm sure Drake is a lock to be in series 9, do you think "my *****" will be on his smart gun? I'm sure Neca will want to include that but in our PC world will they be able to put it on there without retailers and parents throwing a fit? If not I'll just add it so no big deal but I'm curious to see what happens.

I said this earlier today and I agree with you completely. Quoted my post below explaining why I agree.

Guys. You're jumping to conclusions on the helmet.

She's popular enough that she might be the only SDCC figure to get a retail release like last year. Hence the mostly part. She's popular enough for a limited release, not so much for a wide release.

While it's certainly not completely comparable, NECA's last "little girl" figure was Rue from the Hunger Games, who was exclusive to TRU. And while all the HG stuff generally made it to clearance, she was packed to the brim at TRU, orange stickers galore. People took the main characters first, the casual collector audience ignored Rue, even if, from my understanding, she's a beloved character or something.

Let's keep going.

Maybe she's in a two-pack for SDCC with a jacketed Ripley and the single carded one is the normal release. Or vice versa.

You people have to realize NECA is a business. This isn't a reused sculpt. This isn't a reusable sculpt. The helmet alone, admittedly, is not enticing enough as an exclusive (but maybe that's just me, seeing as everyone is getting their panties in a wad). They will not isolate this figure in its entirety to SDCC; they couldn't capitalize on the tooling costs that way. I also don't think they would advertise the helmet if that was the exclusive piece.

Remember thermal Dutch? Yeah that was a SDCC exclusive. The demand was so great for it that it was released as a standard figure. Have you noticed the elusiveness of the answers about SDCC? She could get the switcheroo and be a normal release after NECA gauges response.

When it's all said and done, she still is just a figure of a little kid; while the rest of us want her in the collection, remember that the average consumer will take an Alien or Ripley over Newt any day of the week. I can hear it now: "my TRU won't stock any new figures because the pegs are clogged with Newt, they need to clearance her out". Same thing happened with Kane and Dallas.

Before anyone jumps to the conclusion that my concepts are hot air, they're as fair game as the helmet being exclusive.

This further solidifies the situation. As many fans as there are. There are not as many as you think. And not all of them are collectors at that.

Is it frustrating that Newt might be an SDCC exclusive? Yes. But does it make sense business wise? More or less, yes. That being said, I expect this one to be released in bigger numbers than you think.

So after all of the Alien Day hype we got the following. Correct me if I missed anything.

> An exclusive Newt.

> A creature pack box.

> A pic of Vasquez's chest.

I feel like a kid who was disappointed on Christmas morning :dunno
