Picked up this little guy from Toys R Us. The only one left.

With all the reissues of the big chap and Kenner tributes, like this repaint and those paying homage to the alien series from Kenner in the 90's, I'm surprised they haven't done one particular homage:
the 79 Kenner alien packaging and glow skull and black paint job with tinted carapace.

Weight issue with the front of Space Jockey chair? Considered plunking down that considerable amount of money for this, but after looking to see whether it is truly worth $350 I noticed the objects beneath the lower front of the Space Jockey chair. They're apparently there to support the weight, with one image sloppily photo edited to remove these objects. Suppose Neca will address this issue?View attachment 295527View attachment 295528View attachment 295529View attachment 295530
I haven't noticed that one. Good job.
Overall I do hope they will address the movie accuracy with this piece. Most of their $20 figures get more love, shame.

Damn good eye.

But looking at these pics again I cannot see or justify the high price tag for this. Plus when you add international shipping it becomes a glorified paper weight and not even that since its made of foam.

Wish they'd scrap this and just give us a dropship or APC.

As for the Lambert inclusive wave I hope we at least get one more human and not just more drone repaints or concept figures. Granted I love the clear and albino concepts but I would love a break from the monotony.
Hear, hear!

But the APC and especially the dropship would be far more prohibitively expensive.....I'm not sure I get the logic there. I can't buy this so they might aswell make something even bigger that I can't buy? That'd just torture me :lol

I don't believe a scale Cheyenne is in any way feasible, but the APC seems like it should be far less of a challenge than the Space Jockey. It's essentially just a big green brick, so there's far less intricate sculpted detail that would have to be done, and it could arguably be made as a "kit" (like the old RAH G.I. Joe vehicles) which would mean the size of the box wouldn't be dependent upon the dimensions of the thing when fully assembled. I suspect a detailed interior would probably be out of the question, but you'd still have a nice display piece with opening doors, rolling wheels, swivelling turrets, etc.

Yeah maybe. We talked about this before now that I think of it. Alas even an assembly kit rolling shell APC would still probably have a huge shipping cost for an international customer - if the BBTS estimate for the Space Jockey is anything to go by. :(

Gentle Giant has already done that in a way. Have you seen the ALIENS 'prototype' fig and the jumbo ALIEN figs? It would be cool to have a Kenner ALIEN shrunken down though.

Slowly but surely giving in. :D
wanted to answer your post later, but lost it until now.
it's just that i already have so many small aliens that i thought about putting some soldiers among them... because for now they look like baby aliens.
the thing is i don't need those soldiers except for the visual scale comparison, and i already have so many things that i don't need.

I wasn't too happy with my Ripley. Particularly, the paint, and my headsculpt had some weird imperfections from the mold. Decided to fix the imperfections, and while I'm recasting, I decided to experiment a bit. Did a few casts in clear resin. Took a couple of miscasts to try out some stuff. Did a flesh tone base to see how transparent I could get the skin tone to look at this scale. Came out pretty well. You can't really tell from the phone camera pictures, but there's a good bit of transparency. There's actually more paint on there than I would like due to my airbrush getting a tiny clog and then expelling some built up paint.

All said, it's a good base tone, and once I paint up a keeper and add a few more things to make it more natural I think it'll look great. I was also thinking I might add a bit of flesh tone pigment to some resin and see how that comes out. If they turn out okay, and in the event that NECA foregoes casting the upcoming Hicks and Hudson in flesh tone, I might be persuaded to remedy that. Maybe do something similar for the Newt's Casey head if I can get my hands on one.

Thinking of having a couple of swap out heads that I'll paint different eye positions on as well. Standard looking forward, a side glance and looking slightly up like when she first saw the queen.

I have the gentle giant figure...actually there's a bunch of homage alien products, but I'm surprised neca hasn't done that one yet...in a way it is the definitive current large alien figure

just unpacked a "genocide" black A2 alien.
got it instead of standart A2 alien, because it was too blue and too rare and expensive.
i thought the genocide variant will be black, but it's surprisingly metal (golden/copper). don't know if i like it, though the effect is painted well.
his shoulder is almost broken, but i hope to put it back. i didn't even open the blister yet, just looking through it.

also unpacked an A1 (without opening it, too).
even through the blister i see that his dome isn't (and cannot be) glued to his head and has a giant hole. with a giant black mark on it.

neca alien quality sucks. out of 5 i have 4 have major quality troubles.

Unfortunately it's not just their Xeno figures, although they might be more prone.

If you bought another 5 Neca figures I can't say for certain that you'd get better results. I'd probably bet that you'd get similar and not much better problems with your next 5,

I sell cases of these things so this is just from my experience, I don't often see a "perfect" "as intended" figure & I reckon at least 40% have problems, these problems range from 1-10 on how bad they are, I'm not saying 40% are worthy of a return / refund but that at least 40% will have some sort of quality control issue.

Again just from my experience as a Seller and a Collector. Maybe UK just get's shipped out the bad batches :p

i've seen such bad quality only in my childhood when ussr died and lots of chinese bootlegs arrived... wait, those toys live even today (i left some for memories), while these neca aliens decay in hands.
pity, because the sculpts are so superiour to anything i've seen.

Weird enough, I have the same feeling. The shop I'm buying from uses a distributor located in Germany, and even if I'm allowed to pick and choose my figures I have still encountered countless quality issues (no breakage though). It's becoming quite frustrating.

I have 20 or 30 yr. old figures which kept their integrity just fine. Neca pieces will disintegrate in less than 10.

Huh, maybe. I don't think I've actually ever had any "major quality troubles" with my NECA figures (and I must have close to 50 of them) that were not xenomorphs, with one exception: the right arm of a Gears of War Kantus I bought from a Chinese eBay seller just all of a sudden snapped off at the shoulder one day.

I had some issues with NECA figures as well, mostly one of my Alien's feet broke off the ankle peg and my Gears of War Marcus' arm snapped off at the elbow, but other than that I've been pretty happy with most of my figures (I have Resident Evil, quite a few Aliens and Queen, and Gears of War figures mostly), but I don't play around with them or reposition them much at all so maybe that's why I don't have as much breakage as you guys.

My latest issue was with their Arthas Menethil figure from Heroes of the Storm though, the colors are messed up but it's not a quality issue, more like the original design is terrible, so I repainted it with black shoe polish to give it a much grittier overall look (and dyed the cape black) and repainted the hair white and it's tons better now.

Overall though, NECA is still a very good manufacturer and sells tons of awesome figures that are rarely done by any other manufacturer so I'm happy they're sticking around.

For comparison, here is a before/after picture of the NECA Arthas figure (found the before picture on GIS)

Sowwy for the off-topic derail, back to grumbling about Aliens figures! :p

I've had a couple minor issues in general with Neca figures but the only really bad issues came from the early predator wave that had the elder in it, that figure broke twice before I was able to get it completely out of the packaging tray and I think I had the same problem with the P1 in that wave. I believe that was the wave that Neca claimed the factory they used was the issue and then they went with a new factory. I buy most of my figures on tru.com so I would say I've been very lucky so far.
