I see the 18" figures as posable statues. Statues are probably nicer, but there is a huge huge price difference. It's too bad that they don't make bases for these, but I suppose that might be related to their license or something.

I'm referring to more of a sculpted base, which would really bring out the best in these figures (as well as help them stand up). They did that with their Pirates of the Caribbean figures and they really added a lot to them. Each base was different and they interlocked to make a sort of diorama if you collected multiple figures from the same series.

Yes, but I don't really judge figures or any other collectibles on how much you can save money. I mean how many figures of the same alien are you going to clutter your shelves with?, you know what I'm saying? I'd rather save up for a year in order to get a good maquette or statue instead of buying a plastic figure just coz it's cheap. With that said, I'd have a more dignifying collection, IMO. I know why many of you fell in love with the 18" alien, it's the size - but when you think about it the detail on the 18" is quite the same as on the 8".

I'm not sure I quite follow your argumentation there...
The whole point is that the NECA alien is a fantastically detailed and accurate representation of the Giger design. So acquiring it for 30-40 bucks instead of paying hundreds of dollars for a statue that is not as accurate or detailed makes sense, doesn't it?

Unless you pefer the innacurrate look....like I do. But thats not the po....well it kinda is. But I still love THIS Alien more so then McF's, or anyone else's.

Well yes and no. I was not born with money if that's what you mean, but regardless to that, I'm not that kind of guy who buys anything that has to do with Alien or Predator. And just to let you know, I have all the Alien / Predator dioramas (waiting for Alien 4 and Pred 2) and more from SS. So it's not like I can't afford anything...I'm more of a picky guy.
Yes I like it too - got the 8" to got with the AVP-R line.

I dont think theres a guy or gal on this board who can save with all the stuff coming out dude, i for one have gone from Figures, to Statues to selling them all and now only focusing on 1:1 replicas.. saving for one product for a year is totally BS sorry dude, theres always something coming out to add to your list. Hence why this figure is awesome for people who cant save for a maquette

There's no "correct" approach to this. Some people may only be able to afford the cheaper stuff, or just don't want to spend hundreds on a non-essential item like a statue. Some may prefer to have lots of cheaper things rather than a few expensive things. And others may prefer to save up and get a few major items. I'm leaning more that way myself, since it is true that after a while you can get so many things that you can't fully enjoy what you have.
That said, I think the NECA 18" Alien is easily as good as a lot of the statues I've seen. If I can get something for $40 that's just as nice, or even 80% as nice as a statue costing hundreds of dollars, then it seems like a no-brainer. I can use the money I saved on other things.
