They were actually going to release the Series 1 McF AVP Preds with added walls to the bases, but they didn't to cut down on costs. That's why you can sometimes find a guy on eBay that has the casts of these parts (including the ice base that would've come with the Elder). To top it all off, McF was even going to make a 7" unmasked Scar, but that never happened.
Bottom line, money is everything. And regardless of 'what would be best for the series' (as if you would know, Rider), most companies don't care (look at HT's clearly-innacurate Alien figures, for instance).
The problem is, that all still buy these Hot Toys alien figures, in face of the innacuratness.
If it wouldnt be like that, then Hot Toys would create better ones i think.
Ure right, money is everything, but a pair of skulls or a base wouldnt be the end of the world.
Imagine, all Lost Predators in a row and behind them the tropy-walls, that would be awesome.
Be happy that NECA's giving us a figure we never thought we'd get in the first place and accept the fact that they won't cater to your wants, no matter how noble you think your reasons are. Beggars can't be choosers, and you're pushing your luck, after they've already decided to finally release a 1/4-scale Predator. They're doing this for us because of the possibility to succeed. That's why the edition size is limited and the price has gone up. They've already invested a ton into this project to make sure it's the best possible piece you can buy for $80, and judging from the pictures, it is. You have to remember though -- they won't hand out extra crap just because someone still thinks what they've done isn't enough.
