Why NECA would not release these headsculpts as 1:6 is beyond me. They are fantastic. By the time they get to 1:12 and the manufacturing process much of the detailing will probably be lost.

Because they only get certain scales in their license, where their main product size is 7", they probably don't always pay for the 12" license, if they can even get it. They might go after Rocky, but it seems like with NECA, the 18" and 7" scales sell best, 12" not so much.

I hope you're wrong on this.

Can someone please explain to me why these are at 1/6 scale for toy fair, but the released figure well be 1/12? Seems like false advertising, why would you show something that's never going to be released for sale?

This is nothing new. They are called 2-ups, NECA does it for every Toy show. It's so the prototypes can show more detail. I kind of wish they would make a few 12-inch rocky figures, that way the drop in quality wouldn't be nearly as noticeable.

Thanks for this informative post, I had know idea that when a company purchases a license that they are restricted by the scale they can make, I thought once someone gets a licence they can make what ever the hell they won't with it, but they must get the licence to approve the product prior to release.

Maulffan if it's not to much trouble can you explain this:lecture am sure others may not know to much more then I know.

Well, I know NECA's stated being limited to certain sizes before, I think it was Robocop, they couldn't do certain scales even though they wanted to and fans wanted them to. Some companies get exclusive rights to certain scales and other times, it's like anyone can do it.

I really don't understand why anyone should be restricted by the scale they can produce, why would the license care as long as their being paid and the company that buys the rights makes a quality product.:gah:

because they are selling scales seperately to different companies

Or another company has paid them big money to be the only one in that scale. If a manufacturer has good negotiators and money, they can arrange things, and particularly licenses with no history to guague how well a product will sell, licensors will give that exclusivity. Other times, they'll know they have a cash cow and anyone can do it, like Batman figure. For Batman Begins, Medicom, Hot Toys, Takara and DC Direct all made 1/6 figures of Batman, for Dark Knight, Medicom, Hot Toys and DC Direct made figures of him.

Another example, Sideshow has some form of exclusive rights to Terminator 2 1/6 figures, at least the likes of their products and Hot Toys, because Hot Toys had to release their T2 figures as part of the Sideshow license. Yet, somehow, NECA could put out 2 12" figures, but probably because they don't feature real clothes and such like Sideshow and Hot Toys.

Thanks for explaining this to me, the thing about different scales shouldn't really apply to a license like Rocky, at the moment HCG makes a couple of Rocky statues, but other then that whose in competition to make Rocky collectibles? it's HCG and Neca, and that's it since Jakks had it in 2006. From what you said I really think that companies should allow other companies to make what ever scale they like, it would make them all try to out do each other, competition is good for everyone, and that would give us all better high end collectibles to purchase.

Apparently neca was not allowed to design the packaging. It had to be designed by Warner bros. Talk about restrictions!!!

:wink1:

And if you've seen their 2 1/4 HD Bruce Lee statues and new Terminator 1/4 figure, you'd know this is pretty much guranteed to be the best Rocky ever made by a huuuuuuuuuuuuge margin.

I like to see some pics already of what Enterbay is planning on doing? How many months has that announcement been up? I happy they are doing a Rocky 1/4, but with the long delays with Enterbay, don't expect it until 2013.

I forgot Enterbay was doing Rocky. I was planning on starting to pick up the HT in the secondary, but will wait and see. I hope it's both 1:6 and 1:4. I'm trying to move away from 1:4 due to space. I can't understand why Enterbay and HT overlap licenses though (Rocky, Terminator, Batman, and Bruce Lee unless scale is now the differentiator).

I just received the Neca series 1 today. Great detail on these, but the bodies and heads are a lot smaller in scale compared to the Jakks Rocky line, so the Jakks robes would be to large to use on these, to bad, it's interesting that these are considered the same scale as the Jakks figures. They also made Rocky a lot smaller then Apollo, these look a lot different in hand from what I saw in pics, still a very good figure for $15.

One last thing the guy that mentioned that you lose detail when you go smaller really hit it on the mark, these would have been fantastic at 1/6 or 1/24, at 1/12 you lose it all.

The scale isn't so much the problem with the detail as the production process. IF NECA had sculptors who could do the same detail on a small scale they'd look great, sadly they always shrink down 12" sculpts, that and heavy paint loses detail.

That's a shame. I'm getting my figures tomorrow.
Did you get both, reg and battle damage?
Does battle damage version look much better than reg like everyone says?

damn,it is truly strange that i never heard of this figure and i bought just about anything from the Rocky line.Yes i would love to get my hands on that, but 500?Nah...

That's a custom job Rock83, the belt never came with the figure, the only why to get the belt was from some hong kong seller that worked for Jakks and was selling them on ebay. The $500 people are welling to pay is just for the belt.
