Sadly, buying and selling is a lot like professional sports. While you often hear athletes say they never play to injure and genuinely care about their fellow athletes, they seem alarmingly capable of taking down their "fellow athletes" with a headshot especially if it means they can score a goal or save one... The same goes with many sellers and their wish to make an extra buck.

I just finished a transaction, which may actually get really ugly, where the seller intentionally omitted information from an item's description. I asked about this information in advance too. I was clearly misled to believe I was getting something else.

Nowadays, when you hear "you will be satisfied, guaranteed", it means nothing if the seller basically does zip when a problem does actually surface. Buyers really need to step up their game because some of these sleazeball sellers think we're just a bunch of patsies.

And yet people wonder why I don't use PayPal for selling stuff... They're just not there for you.

If sellers have nothing to hide and package their items well, they'll almost never run into trouble. Every time I have had an issue with a seller, it was always for the same reason -- They either lied or intentionally withheld information about the piece I was purchasing. Again, this isn't about minor scuffing or dings on a box or slight paint imperfections. This is more about paint touch ups, glue fix-ups, or flat out dusty used pieces being described as new.

But then you're an honest buyer (and an honest seller who describes truthfully), who would only complain if the item was really not what was described.

The danger is that there are a lot of dishonest buyers who will complain just to get a refund, or to return a damaged item they already owned in place of the perfect one they've just bought from you.

I've heard these stories from so many sellers firsthand, so I think that you've been really lucky with your sales/trades over the past 10-15 years. Maybe that's down to the specific market that you were selling to.

I'm naturally cynical, so at the moment Ebay would be a last resort as a marketplace. I would still rather accept less money and sell face to face. Maybe Ebay will regain the proper balance sometime. I see that they're amending the unpaid item rules, so that could be the first step.

Wow, that's exactly wht I went through. When I first joined here, I was looking to get a Chopper Pred(which I found) so I sold 14 Mcfarlane Preds and Aliens to a boardie in Russia......2-weeks later I get a PM saying all the figs arrived broken and were missing pieces, and threating me to give a partial refund or he'll ruin my rep.

So I did. The next day I have a claim filed on my Paypal account by guess who??.. the same boardie to whom I gave the refund to. This time he was demanding the whole sum of money back. Needless to say PP chose him over me, my account was drained of funds($200 some odd dollars) and closed. He hasn't been online nor in contact with me since.
Scammer.

Didn't he have to send the stuff back to you? PP doesn't release the funds unless there is evidence that it was sent back.

Thats not the case, Paypal refunded me on an item before I sent it back. If I was dis-honest I could easily have kept the cash and the item. Paypal and Ebay are a scam - people don't realise how corrupt they are until they get burnt.

No he didn't, he provided a false tracking number though. I was so mad. Oh well, I wanted the McF figs outa the way. Just really sucks people are like that you know? Really pisses me off.

How does someone get away with submitting a false tracking number?
Surely, PayPal isn't that easily fooled.

Sorry to hear about your experience... The stories we hear from sellers are often as bad as the stories we hear from buyers. No one likes to feel ripped off. You quite literally want to squash the weazel with a battering ram. I can live with the "ooops" type mistake. However, the flagrant deceit and the premeditated scamming we sometimes hear about is another story entirely.... It just burns me up.

Believe it or not, he used the same number from the custom form I gave him:lol friken douche. I hate scammers as well, why do it? Other than the money... Which I guess is the device of most evil

Having been brought up to be honest and respectful, I've always found it inconceivable that I could actually enjoy something that I'd obtained dishonestly.

Scammers and shoplifters and their ilk must be wired up differently to the rest of us. It makes me really angry...

It's an unfair world. I admire people for being honest and trusting you sometimes you need to wake up and smell the coffee. If the world of people was so damn honest and trustworthy, it wouldn't be in the shape it is today. This world is built upon lies and deceit and the good and honest will always suffer. Sucks but what can you do...the laws we obey and abide by were written by the same corrupt politicians that are eager to put a quick buck into their pockets.

am having a Minni dilemma at the min.

Just bought a second hand IM mk3. The Item was described as The figure is in great condition But there is quite a bit colour faded on the stomach and there's like marks on the gold face mask like it starting to tarnish.

I dunno what to do

Send it back for a refund. That or ask for a partial refund. You got it from ebay?

I agree with everything you say - a lot of the politicians in the UK have been publically caught out, and several (a tiny minority of the guilty) are actually in court for fraud. Trouble is that this attitude filters down through society.

bigpig, I also agree that you should complain about your Iron Man. Those things don't normally come cheaply, and you're never going to feel happy with him if he isn't right. It really depends how much you paid - and how much you can realistically expect as a partial refund. If he wasn't a real bargain, then I would say go for a full refund.

The seller was obviously being economical with the truth by calling him "great condition". He might be "great" in comparison to a smashed up figure, but to me "great" should mean something much closer to retail perfection.

yes. you can quite easily see the different colour on the midsection and they are meant to be the same? (am colour blind and can notice they are very different) The face is hard to describe it like different colour spec's/spots coming though and very noticeable like freckles.

Iv sent the seller a msg hopefully this can be settled easily.

Do you mind telling us who this F@$#ER is????
I'd like to be aware of people like this especialy on this forum.

A little update on my problem. The seller has got back to me after I opened a NAD case saying he sorry that am not happy with the deal and that he will refund me if I send the item back.

Now what is the best way of doing this?

Does he refund me first then I send item back?
Or do i have to send the item back then I get refunded?

How will this effect the NAD case ? Do I keep it open until the transaction is completed?
I just don't want to send the item back then end up not getting my money back and losing the figure at the same time

When I've filed a dispute with Paypal and requested a refund, Paypal asked that I supply a tracking number. (Always include insurance too and add signature confirmation as well.) Paypal tracks the package. Once it arrives, you'll get a refund shortly thereafter. I'm not sure how long after, BUT it will come. I can't remember if the original seller must contact Paypal as well to confirm if it was received, but nonetheless.
