Never understood why so many people feel Ripley is such an integral element of any potential Alien films.
Her story has been told, let her go.
Unavoidable when it comes to sequels.
Too many people feel the need for recurring characters and repeated plot lines, like in TV shows.

Alien Resurrection showed that we really don't need any more Alien movies.

Especially ones that take place in South Africa slums.

Despite everything, ALIEN3 was is a better part of the franchise than ALIENS.

No one was able to prove the opposite. :dunno

My biggest gripe, is how the movie cheaply killed off Newt and Hicks so early, after all of that ordeal in Aliens. I thought Hicks was a great character, and he deserved his place in a sequel (I guess it's coming with the Blomkamp movie, but it should've happened since Alien 3).

I loved the atmosphere in Alien 3, though. The Dog Alien was a pretty neat xeno concept, too.

lol, ya kinda like Johnny Cage. He was arguably the best character in MK and is instantly killed off at the start of MK:A :lol

What I've said about the "TV show" syndrome. :lol

This was an ingenious writing. It felt natural that most of SULACO "crew" didn't survive the incident, and added a lot to the overall uneasy atmosphere. Also introduced the element of fate to the story, sayin' that you can run from death but can't avoid it no matter what.

Far better film than ALIENS, which reused O'Bannon's plot line and had very basic depth.
And no, I'm not saying that ALIENS - one of the best blockbusters ever - is a bad film.

Yup. If the studio hadn't have had interfered so much I think it would have been one of the bravest, most interesting of the series.
As it stands, it's a fantastic mess. The tone, cinematography, sets, music are just fantastic. Great performances and some stunning set pieces. The funeral still stands as one of my favourite all time sequences. The mixing of faces, the dialogue about life and death, the drop of blood from Ripley's nose. ART!!

The Alien itself being the only let down. The dog/cow shape wasn't carried through all the way to the end. Always disappointed me when it suddenly became a man in a suit. But I still LOVE Alien3.

Well Sigourney Weaver believes this will definitely happen, officially she's the only actor who's contracted at this time. The script was written, it was complete but had to be rewritten on the say-so of Ridley Scott. The rumour being Blomkamp's film showed the original Space Jockey which would again show the considerable size difference between the SJ's in Alien and the SJ's/Engineers in Prometheus.

Does Sigourney Weaver like Alien vs Predator?

Not saying it won't happen, it's just not happening yet as that post you quoted said.

My problem is this, I know exactly what kind of Alien film Blomkamp will make. And I don't want to see it.
He is not good enough IMO.

:lol

The theatrical is a mess, but the director's cut is great!! Love it just as much as the first two.

I wonder if Blomkamp will stick to traditional alien designs or try and add something new like the Newborn or Deacon?...

With Ridley Scott vetoing anything remotely connected with Prometheus i'd say that might be very unlikely. Weaver says Blomkamp's idea is to make another blockbuster popcorn movie like Aliens but can he pull it off?:lol
