So what's the actual status of these two movies (Alien 5 and Prometheus 2)?
I read somewhere that Prometheus 2 was set for a March 2016 release... with the kind of post that goes into these movies, I find that date a bit far fetched if they haven't even started filming yet.
And does Alien 5 even have a script ready?

Neither do. And neither have solid dates. Just speculative dates the studios throw out to garner interest.
Scott does not have an approved P2 script and Blomkamp's Alien is still in development stages.

Both or neither could still happen. Same as Tron 3.

IMO. :lol

Oh I haven't read that one, so it's good huh?

I read the new Fire and Stone or whatever, and it sucks big time, It's just as bad as the movies, at least the 1st issues.
It's the first AvP book/comic. I prefer the book, cause, well, it's longer and more in-depth. I think the comics came out in 1990(?) and the book in 95.

It feels more like the Alien franchise I think, as it takes place in the future on a newly colonized planet. A clan of predators seeds the planet with Xenomorph eggs for a hunt, not knowing that there's humans living there, and things get real bad real fast. The Xenomorphs are Aliens-styled warriors, with a Queen. It's not a very elaborate story, but it's very compact and well-written IMO. It has all the elements people love from both films. I'm not a big fan of how Cameron changed the Xenomorphs in Aliens, but for AvP, I think they work much better than Giger's.

I haven't read any of the recent alien/predator comics like Fire and Stone and Three World War. I'd like to get around to reading them someday, and re-reading all the ones I currently own.

Having never seen AVPR and watching YT clips, holy crap that movie is dark, can't see anything!

WTF.

the movie was shot lighter, the first trailer is proof that the movie was not as dark

When it was released in theaters it wasn't as dark either. for the home release for some reason Fox decided to make it super dark, i don't know if they were embarrased by the movie or something (Which then makes you wonder why release it on dvd at all...)

It's not a shooting style thing for sure. I think it's either a transfer error or just bad decision making. The blacks are crushed to the point where there is no detail in them which is something you never do. I think perhaps the film was so bad (it is) they had to try something to give it a look, even a crap one.

I really can't think of a worse movie since those direct to VHS sequels that happened in the 80's.

you can see that it was not meant to be so dark (this is a lot clearer than the movie)

yeah it is still at night but i do think they made it darker on purpose later

God, this is one of the worst high profile sci-fi movies ever made. I will never understand how this came to be.
