AvP is a pretty decent movie, with some very nice action sequences and actually great cinematography. Anderson has that, his movies always look great.

Eventually I will watch it though, but the YT videos on it seemed kinda lame, Predators going down like ******* against a samurai sword. :lol

Again it's one of them, the Falconer sword fight looks great to the eye and is beautifully shot but for a Predator movie it's a massive let down. Falconer doesn't move or act like a Predator, it's so obvious it's a guy in a suit with an oversized blade on his arm. He also gets taken out within two minutes of fighting. Bigger and better Preds; nope!!!

Looking forward to watching them both, i'll let you know about the bluray transfer on AvPR.

I watched AVPR on blu, it was awful. The black issue was even more obvious. And the film itself is beyond bad.

I never minded AVP. As a piece of silly fluff it's quite well made.

I watched AVP again last night. Very disappointing movie at initial watch back in 2004, still is a disappointing but has to be one of the BEST replay movies out there.

That's pretty awesome. He's got such a more interested face than the others, since he's missing a mandible and has a messed up eye.
Gotta disagree. I always thought his face looked awfully cheap and poorly put together in that scene. The length his mouth & mandibles come out, and the way they move look very robotic and un-predator-like IMO. Just in that scene at least. I really like Wolf's facial design.

:lol :lol :lol :lol

*note to self, turn brightness to 11 while watching AvPR.
That's actually the weird thing about it Jye, they compressed the blacks, there is no picture information in there, so when you up the brightness you get a big grey picture instead of a big black picture. You really can't see anymore. It's bizarre, have fun! :lol

On a good TV with the levels set right it's not too bad you know. :)

:lol

Stupid Fox studio, always ****ing with the Alien franchise, at least I only spent $4.00. :lol

Same can be said for Berserker, great face design but poorly executed on screen. Like has been said many times, film makers just can't seem to repeat the magic of the originals animatronics.

Go back to that scene where Scar applied a “scar" to Lex's face. I wonder what would have happened if they were not interrupted by the Queen breaking through the ice. It was a heavy moment both looking into each others eyes as if they were going to kiss. Looked like Scar thought he was going to ket lucky…I mean he being a teenager and all!!

That's what made Stan Winston such a fantastic practical fx builder, not only was his designs breath taking but they still looked and operated that way on set and the finished film.

I get that his fx were and still are superior to most in the industry, I just don't get why today's fx artists are unable to achieve the same results as Winston did back then.

Yup, I agree. In production stills Mr. Black's head looked really cool, in the film though, it looks like a very poorly CGI'd octopus.

:rotfl :rotfl :rotfl

Sorry man, that's too funny. :lol
Well, he's not wrong regarding AvP. I don't know about the rest of Anderson's movies though. I can't sit through the Resident Evil garbage and the only other films I've seen by him were so awful I've tried to block them from memory.

AVP1 is a solid film. I remember I saw it in the theater at like 11 at night, and I got stuck in the front row all the way to the right :pow

First time viewing?

Like Snake said, AVP is a solid movie. At the time it took some stick but now the years have past it's a good addition to the franchise, yeah it could have been better but so could many movies.

With AvPR just empty your mind and prepare to be Wolfified!!! ;)

The action scenes in AvP are very well-choreographed and the most original in the franchise IMO.

Scar jumping across the ledge in slo-mo, Scar pretending to be one of the predator statues, then launching that spear into the guy, when he dangles that invisible fishing line thing in the shape of a noose, and that guy walks right into it and is swiftly and silently pulled up by the neck, Scar vs Queen, Celtic vs Grid, etc.

When I was little, though I loved Predator, I was always so disappointed at the 1 on 1 fight with Arnold because of how slow the predator is (due to the suit). When I sat in the theater watching AvP, I sat in amazement thinking "this is how fast a predator should move!".

AVP is fun but it has some cringe inducing moments like when the woman and the pred were about to kiss :lol
the movie made me laugh out loud 3 times recently, all had to do with the romance between scar and that lady.
there was some pretty cheesy romantic movie stuff going on with them :rotfl
the other moment is when they both jump on the platform going up the hole at the end. they looked like rag dolls going up.

:lol :lol :lol :lol

fix the contrast as well :exactly:
