C'mon, there's got to be $4.00 worth of fun.

Predators is mediocre, but it's still a much better film than the horrendous AVP:R. They're not even close to being in the same category on any technical or creative level, whatsoever.
Yes, because it is just that, a slightly better made film. Basic cinematography goes a long way, and Predators actually looked good with vibrant colors and some striking use of light and shadow. AVP:R looked like someone left the lens cap on the camera. As for the characters, Predators gave us a group of mostly memorable cut throats and mercenaries played by some competent actors. AVP:R gave us the pizza delivery boy played by somebody's nephew in his first and last role ever.

AVPR gave us Wolf, which has become one of if not the most popular Predator in the franchise. Despite liking their designs, Tracker and Falconer are easily forgettable with both being used as canon fodder for the humans in the movie.
How about Scar and Berserker, I always see those names thrown around.

AvP:R also gave us the most godawful alien designs in existence. I can find something redeemable about every alien design, and I will gladly buy collectibles of them all, except the AvP:R alien. It's the one design in both franchises that I just can't stomach.AVPR gave us Wolf, which has become one of if not the most popular Predator in the franchise. Think of it like this:
Wolf is the Iron Man of the Predator franchise. Everyone who didn't grow up with the franchise, and most young teenagers, will choose Wolf as their favorite predator and go on and on about how "badass" he is. He's basically the Predator fan's wet dream. He has a **** load of weapons, he's his own boss, cool battle scars, kills 2736673578257678253 aliens in the movie, etc, etc.
It's clear that the Strause brothers give no **** for the Alien franchise. The aliens in the film acted like 2-year-olds. They weren't clever, sneaky, or powerful, except in the military scene. There's even a scene where Wolf is holding two aliens by the neck, simultaneously, and they are just wriggling and squealing, not even bothering to fight back.
I like Wolf. I think ADI did an amazing job on his design, but I have an unwarranted distaste for him because of how many noob predator fans are obsessed with him. You go in the Aliens & Robots section and you'll see like a dozen members with some variation of "Wolf" and "Predator" in their name that don't have much respect for the original Winston designs.
Though there are of course genuine predator fans that favor Wolf, know where he came from and have a true respect for the franchise (like Goose).
