The whole demasking part is badass.

Indeed. Have you seen the deleted scene titled 'Predator arrival'? It's an extended scene of Wolf exploring the crashed ship and he takes off his mask. It's a shame they cut it from the scene as second the P1 unmasking scene it's my favourite Predator moment from all the movies.

I'll have to look into that. It's been a while since I've seen either AVP in quite some time, even Predator for that matter.

Yeah, everything in that ship scene is great, the way Wolf acts, atmosphere, everything. I have the extended scene in GIF form, I'll upload it in here when I'm next on my computer.

I never knew people hated Predators so much :lol. I thought it was a decent enough movie, for a soft reboot of the franchise. I didn't particularly like how the Classic Pred was defeated so easily by the bad bloods. But, it did have some cool moments, like the scene where the Yakuza guy faced off against the Falconer in a fight to the death.

I think AVPR suffered too much from horrible lighting and terrible human characters. Although, the Wolf Pred and Pred-Alien more than made up for it in the last fight scene.

My problem with Predators was the first 30 minutes. I hate those first 30 minutes, they are slow, they are annoying to watch.

the director tries to capture the suspense of the first Predator but he fails because in the First predator Dutch and the team had a mission, you went into the movie following them on a mission, they all each had their own job and they had their own personalities. They were a real team, It just happens that there is a killing alien in the jungle as well.

in Predators what I find that I hate is that, not only do they drop a group in the middle of a jungle that doesn't know each other (so they are not close to each other or anything) but we spend 35 minutes getting to know them and the characters getting to know each other. That was very boring and anti climactic.

Even in Predator 2 we have a cop that is trying to fight crime, we have gangs fighting each other, the predator (Again) just happens to be in the middle of it.

Predators has nothing to fall back onto. they wonder the jungle aimlessly until the predators attack, then they wonder the jungle again until FATBURN appears. then the last act is where all the action happens.
the writer and the director failed to understand that what made Predator work (And predator 2) is that we had established characters on a mission already)

I get that the idea of getting a bunch of random mercenaries is interesting but they spent too much time wondering in the jungle. They needed to get to the predator action sooner

I still find it hilarious that the Strause Bros made accounts on AvPGalaxy (alien versus predator forum) to whine and argue with members that were bashing AvP:R, and that they even stated their movie was better than Predator 2. :rotfl

I have that thread saved on my old computer somewhere, it's a good read! :lol They said that Fox cut the budget from certain areas during filming. I'm not making an excuse for the Brothers but there were many others at fault too; FOX, Davis, Salerno etc...

omg I need to see this!
Thank God I didn't know, I would have insulted them daily :rotfl

It is but it still doesn't make it a better movie. If you gave AVPR double it's budget and an experienced director but kept the same story, characters and actors would it be a better movie just because it looks better made?

Yes, because it is just that, a slightly better made film. Basic cinematography goes a long way, and Predators actually looked good with vibrant colors and some striking use of light and shadow.

I will say that Predators looks amazing and has amazing lighting, whoever did the lighting for Predators needs an award. that movie is beautiful to look at (compared to AVPR) the cinematography on Predators is really really good. it looks great.

The person that did the lighting for AVPR should be fired and never worked on movies again. I almost wish I could have had the guy that did the lights for predators to have worked on AVPR

/\ Crap, I just payed $4.00 for the AVPR bluray. :lol

C'mon, there's got to be $4.00 worth of fun. :lol

AVP is a lot of fun actually (The first one) I Saw it yesterday and it is pretty good pop corn fun. it's like a kids version of an alien movie.
Predator is just another character with the humans, the whole thing is just Aliens for kids. I am starting to warm up to AVP 1 a lot.
the beginning is boring but the predator scenes are great

AVPR, I only have it on DVD, I dont know how good the Blu Ray is, but I still love the Predator Scenes. the human stuff is like Dawson's Creek :lol
like Smallville or something
but the Predator stuff is pretty cool, Fox just made the movie extremely dark so most people hate it because of the darkness

I agree on pretty much all your points. However my point was that just because Predators technically looks better and overall is technically a far superior movie doesn't make it a better movie to me. By that standard Avatar as a visual spectacle and on a technical level is one of the best I've seen at the cinema, does that mean I have to rate it above all my favourite movies?

As a Predator fan Wolf's portayal in AVPR took what would have been a 2/10 to a 7/10. I know some Pred fans disliked Wolf because he was 'untouchable' but I'd much prefer this than to have a Pred like Tracker or Falconer show up and be killed off within a minute of showing up.

That's pretty awesome. He's got such a more interested face than the others, since he's missing a mandible and has a messed up eye.

Looking forward to watching them both, i'll let you know about the bluray transfer on AvPR.

AVP1 is a solid film. I remember I saw it in the theater at like 11 at night, and I got stuck in the front row all the way to the right :pow

First time viewing?

Like Snake said, AVP is a solid movie. At the time it took some stick but now the years have past it's a good addition to the franchise, yeah it could have been better but so could many movies.

With AvPR just empty your mind and prepare to be Wolfified!!! ;)

Yup, 1st for both.

Most reviews on AvP1 that I read all say that the movie has aged very well with an upward trend seen with its overall review scores. All say that the Predator and Alien scenes were very well handled.

I have watched P1/Aliens a billion x though. :lol

The action scenes in AvP are very well-choreographed and the most original in the franchise IMO.

Scar jumping across the ledge in slo-mo, Scar pretending to be one of the predator statues, then launching that spear into the guy, when he dangles that invisible fishing line thing in the shape of a noose, and that guy walks right into it and is swiftly and silently pulled up by the neck, Scar vs Queen, Celtic vs Grid, etc.

When I was little, though I loved Predator, I was always so disappointed at the 1 on 1 fight with Arnold because of how slow the predator is (due to the suit). When I sat in the theater watching AvP, I sat in amazement thinking "this is how fast a predator should move!".

Look, i'm all open for modern fast cgi action, i'm not one of those "if its not made inbetween The Exorcist and True Lies it must suck, ADD kids ruined everything" kind of person, especially where superhero movies are concerned.

But let me make myself perfectly clear here, Aliens/Predator1 can't be touched!

Now, I can't wait to watch these 2 movies. :lol

I've never seen Predators either, and while the cinematography looks pleasing to the eyes, I'm not as excited for it as I am for AvP1/2.

Eventually I will watch it though, but the YT videos on it seemed kinda lame, Predators going down like bitches against a samurai sword. :lol
