After Cameron's film and the development hell? It definitely was.

Sounds like ALIEN.

:exactly:

That's how Hollypoop works.
She was a no-one before ALIEN and became a star after Ghostbusters and ALIENS.

There was no CGI.
This is all correct.

Is a tool :lol
The first stories with Newt in a mental hospital and alcoholic Hicks were pretty cool, and almost as dark as Alien3.

Then there's this retarded ****...

Is A3 Extended even available seperate from the box set?

I don't think so.

I've never watched the extended, only seen A3 opening night and never again, what a mess of a movie plus yes the anger.

Thinking of watching the extended....shudders.

see it see it see it...you big green fool

Newt should be 37 (not 27) so that her age would comparatively match the real life ages of Biehn and Weaver. Carrie Henn herself is 39, I was hoping they'd cast Rosamund Pike as full grown Newt (who also happens to be 37 years old.)

She's nice!! I'd settle for her as a Carrie Henn replacement! [emoji6]

Oh man if she were Newt I would then want to bang Newt. :horror

Anyone else kind of puzzled by Weaver saying 5 will not wipe out 3 or 4 ? As a fan of the first three films this pleases me but still, how would this work ? They write off three as a dream in hypersleep, or do the whole Sulaco goes through a time warp and now we have two of each characters scenario ?

Obviously we've had this conversation before but once again I don't consider ALIENS to be a direct retread of ALIEN. Yes it has some familiar beats (characters encounter facehuggers first, then a chestburster sequence, then adult aliens kill characters until one is blown out the airlock at the end) but shifting genres from "haunted house" to "Vietnam war movie" was huge IMO.

T2 is more of a retread... Aliens is about as perfect of a sequel as you can get. It just took what the original had and turned it on it's ear. The ending was where it repeated itself from the firs movie. But that was about it. Otherwise it's just a great film. It has some pacing issues for sure but overall it's one of the top thee sequels of all time.

Give it another go Jye.. Even if you can;t watch the extended cut which is not that much better IMO)

Like you I hated this film in the theaters but with repeat viewing on video I appreciate the look and beauty of the film. Plus the Alien in it is just so bad ass. It's not the disaster people say it is and it is FAR better then Resurrection.

ALIEN *****
ALIENS*****
ALIEN 3 ***1/2
ALIEN Resurrection *

Actually come to think of it, the tone of Alien 3 is much lighter then BvS..... ;) :lol

The whole queen face***ger plot point, other little bits and pieces to compress the narrative.
Used theatrical version of the birth, it's more emotional and better looking.

I agree... I like the EE just fine but don't find it any better then the original. Yes it does do the other character better and gives them more depth but it also slows the film down to a snails crawl.

Wait a minute, are there 2 assembly cuts of Alien 3?

The 2003 version released with the Quadrilogy set and a 2010 version released with the Anthology set?

What is this, there's an alternate version of Resurrcraption as well?!

I see that Jeunet considers the theatrical version his preferred cut, ok I want nothing to do with any version of 4 then. :lol

Ok, I see that the only difference between the 2003 and 2010 assembly cut of A3 is that ADR was added to clean up the audio.

If she died in 3 how can 5 possibly keep that as canon.

I also see that:

"A number of cast and crew associated with the series, including actor Michael Biehn, previous director James Cameron, and novelist Alan Dean Foster, expressed their frustration and disappointment with the film's story. Cameron, in particular, regarded the decision to kill off the characters of Bishop, Newt, and Hicks as a "slap in the face" to him and to fans of the previous film. Biehn, upon learning of Hicks' demise, demanded and received almost as much money for the use of his likeness in one scene as he had been paid for his role in Aliens."

Have you ever watched Alien all the way through Jye, and what were your thoughts on it compared to Aliens? Better? Worse? How often do you watch them both?

Aliens > Alien.

Not even close.

Alien is somewhat boring with a few very iconic scenes but Big Chap remains a masterpiece, one of the best monsters in cinematic history, up there with Frankenstein, Predator and Godzilla.

Aliens is a goddamn masterpiece.

Oh I did, opening night.

It was beyond horrible.

But I guess its now considered a masterpiece. :lol

Well it SHOULD be considered a masterpiece. Some of us actually always thought so. But I also feel sure that people who prefer Alien over Aliens are more likely to think of Alien 3 as a (flawed) masterpiece and as the perfect ending to the trilogy.
