Totally was a refrencing Nazi Germany... but in a way that it didn't overshadow the movie. Ah for the old subtle arts of George; not random or clumsy like a blaster, a more precise director from a more civilized age.

I believe one of the very early Vader concepts was a WW2 German Helmet with a gas mask(this may have been an early stage shortly after the first concepts where drawn). I've always seen Vaders helmet as an extended german helmet rather then the Samurai style. But yes they where influenced by the uniforms mentioned.

And they both had Stormtroopers... I think the entire Nazi influence was 100% intentional.
