I actually far prefer Romana I over Romana II as well, I just think that, generally speaking, Romana II seems more ingrained into the iconography of classic who for both the general public/casual fans and for a lot of classic era Whovians.
Now how much of that has to do with the tempestuous relationship between Lalla Ward and Tom Baker, and how much is due to the Doctor/companion onscreen chemistry and character relationship, well, one can only speculate. But it certainly helped sear her into a prominent part of his Doctor Who era in a lot of people's minds either way. And to my mind, probably makes her an easier sell as far as collectibles based on nostalgia and iconography go.
But hey, just my take on it. I might be way off base in my thinking, or simply over-thinking this stuff too much.
