Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

How dare you, I work hard on my character assassinations...

But seriously, I guess I ought to show more respect to your views, and will try to do so, the criticism just annoyed me because I think we ought to cut BC a bit of slack on something they couldn't do much about. We've no idea what they thought of the sigs, but what were they supposed to do, tell the star of the show that they're building their livelihood around that they weren't happy with his work? I'd also hate for the criticism to put people off signing in future. Finally, I felt that the sigs were not so expensive that it had to be a major problem, even if you didn't like the signatures - you've still got something that passed through Matt's hands and it cost you £20 not £75. Matt's a nice guy and I bet if you wrote to him with your comments he would see the funny side and send you a signature you liked! But that was how I would view it, and I know that your view is equally valid, even if I don't agree with it.

Anyway, I apologise, I've had a bit too much fun with this debate over the last few days, and I promise not to pull your chain again.

See, here's the thing, I never once had a go at Big Chief, others may have, I didn't, in fact I've gone out of my way to compliment them on pretty much everything else in regards to the figure, and even pointed out myself that the signature thing was a minor complaint. I also happen to think it a valid one. I also never belittled anyone just because they had opinions that were different than mine. All I personally was ever trying to do was give the reasons why I personally was a little disappointed by the signature, which basically boiled down to it wasn't what was advertised (if the squiggle initials had been what was originally advertised there wouldn't be any issue, as folks could have chosen with full knowledge of the final prouct), and so I did find that a touch disappointing. Not a huge deal, but a little disappointing all the same. And I do suspect that is more on Matt Smith than Big Chief, and I also wouldn't be surprised if Big Chief weren't overly happy with the situation either, though that is all just conjecture on my part, of course.

Thing is I used to work the convention circuit down here for a number of years, so from that I have a pretty good idea how much it costs for someone of Smith's status to be booked for a signing like this, and how long it'd take, and I just felt that we paid a premium price for a not so premium signing (I'd go into how an initialing isn't the same as a signature but I know nobody cares... :lol). But again, I was never making that big a deal about it myself, just trying to explain the reasons for my own feelings on the matter, and pointing out that folks have a right to have such opinions, and that it doesn't make us automatic haters, or mean that we have it in for Big Chief or anything. That's all.

But regardless, let's move on. For my part I meant no ill will towards anyone, I hold no grudges, and I appologise if I have inadvertently caused anyone any offence.

So, Weeping Angels...

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

If the angel is part diorama will BCS be making tardis consoles? I love one for the 4 th dr !!

I can't imagine how much those would be... but man I'd be ALL over it. They haven't stepped into electronics yet, though. Maybe some day. I'd definitely like them to tackle the TARDIS exterior at least.

I too have said things that I regret. Specially to ProgM (you too Ex-P). If things got heated I do apologise for my contribution to it.

We all love our 1/6 figures here, and no one should feel as if they have been short changed, even if other do not feel that.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

I'd be more interested in a TARDIS console since no toy company has attempted it since Dapol, and that was back in the dark ages. :lol Of course I'd love a 1:6 TARDIS too. Any guesses as to how much such a thing would cost?

My guess as to how much a 1/6 scale Tardis would cost is double a figure - £299 (I accidentally typed £2.99, now that would be a good deal!). But that's nothing more than a guess.

I wonder what form it would take? I suppose we'd get a 'current Tardis' first, but it would be interesting to see what else they might do. Electronics or no electronics? I would like to see a take off sound, an interior light and an external light, but it doesn't need to be a 1/6 version of the CO flight control Tardis.

Obviously they could do different versions the way CO did them, by keeping basically the same doors, walls and floors, but changing the roof (would that be accurate enough for Tardis fans?).

I would love to see them release an unpainted Tardis too and maybe 'roof expansion packs' which would allow people to choose and paint their own the right colour. It could even become the basis for some cool urban art the way people have painted Star Wars helmets.

Does anyone think the QMX Tardis will actually happen, and how come they have a licence to produce a 1/6 Tardis?

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

I too apologize for getting over antagonistic on the disagreement. I do want to say I wasn't directing any blame on BC for the signature at all. I even said something like "if I was them I'd be pissed at Matt" for not putting in a full effort.

But yes, moving on. I'm really excited for 10 and the angels. After I finish my wife's TARDIS bird house I may make another slightly larger and with working doors....minus the bird hole. :lol

That looks very good by the way.

I ordered a Doctor and Amy from both Entertainment Earth and Things From Another World. Whomever ships first gets to keep my money. I would think they must be receiving their stock soon.

TFAW don't allow you to cancel your pre-order. At least according to their site. I thought long and hard before I pre-ordered with them, but the price was too good even if it becomes my "second" figure.

I emailed tfaw and they said that date was just a place holder. I'm sure we'll get our orders within the next month.

That's funny because I e-mailed them and they said (around 8/29):
"Thank you for contacting us. I've looked into the release date, and this is the most up to date info that we have available from our distributor. The Doctor Who: 1:6 scale figure was suppose to be released earlier than this, but it missed it's first shipment date, and this is the new date we have. There is always the possibility of this item coming out before Dec. 26th once we have more info, but this is the date that everyone should have from the distributor at this time."

I like your answer much better, as it's probably more up to date. :D

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

If it ever happened then I'd probably only buy one Tardis...whichever version got made first, but I'd be down for a whole bunch of different consoles. Although they'd be pretty expensive, I'd imagine.

I seem to recall Sixteen 12 made a 1:6 scale Tardis and a 1:6 scale console, but like much of their Who plans, they never got them past the prototype stage and into production unfortunately, and they ended up selling the prototypes a couple years back.

Let's see if I can dig out a link. Ah, here we go, if you're curious you can see both archived on their site here, as well as their proposed version of a 1:6 Tom Baker (with interchangable hair/hat).
