Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Problem is they have to be about the companions because the format doesn't permit for story telling long enough to get you invested in anyone else.

Yes, the companions are supposed to be us, our eye-and-ears aboard the TARDIS. Otherwise the show would be about an 1000 year old space alien, in the body of a 28 year old, hyperactively running around the cosmos with no connection to us at all.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

I have said this before but unfortunatly Big chief can not get the James Bond license. They wanted it but Barbara Broccoli does not want figures made of James Bond this is what i was told by Big Chief.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Agreed. Companions should have a season each, with a crossover into the next to introduce the new one. Keeps everything fresh, and... Don't make the stories about the damned companions. That is really bugging me with these recent shows.

Well, I don't think it should always be exactly a season, but they were definitely done after season 6.

Did you watch the specials "season" after season 4? It worked just fine without recurring companions.

I thought most of those were extremely hollow from a character perspective.

My wife had an interesting perspective, and I agree. She has no problem with the companions being very important to the story, but from the Doctor's perspective she doesn't think every single companion should tug at the Doctor's heart strings.

In the old days not every companion was "loved" by the Doctor and not all of them had exits that devistated him. Need more happy Martha exits and less Rose, Donna and Amy type exits.

Agreed. Also not every companion needs to be super important or reveal some secret. If they are us they need to be Norma as well

Who's Norma and why do all the companions have to be her? :rotfl

I think companions shouldn't have a time stamp on them. Let them expire when it's right. I do agree that Amy and Rory's story was mostly done at the end of Series 7, but I didn't mind their presence in Series 7 since the adventures hardly revolved around them.

As for the figure, I'll see what the final figure turns out like. I keep wavering. But I've said it before, and I'll say it again... if they make a River she's bought in an instant.

I don't mind a companion staying for more than on season if the show remains about The Doctor. What's really bugged me recently, especially this current season, is that it's the Amy and Rory show featuring Doctor Who. They are cool and all, but I want a show about the Doctor, and not the adventures of a married couple who have to prove each week how much they love, and can't live without each other.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

The funny thing is the show has been more about the companions since it came back in 2005. I suppose the difference was that the Doctor had the "damaged by the Time War" arc that sort of came to a close with Tennant. So maybe that's why it seems more prevalent with Amy and Rory? I actually think Rose and her family drama dominated the story way more than Amy and Rory ever did. I actually kind of like that about modern Who, to be honest, when it's well done. The opposite side of the coin was Martha. I loved Martha but could have cared less about her family.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Best part of Martha was she was there in support of the Doctor, nothing more. She didn't need him to be her surrogate father (Rose) her surrogate boyfriend (Donna) or her surrogate friend (Amy).

Martha was more like Sarah Jane. A true sidekick.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

I really enjoyed the whole Amy Rory river song thing but all I saying is that not every companion needs to be Specail. And with new who except for Martha and mickey they have all been super.
Jack the immortal. Rose and time vortex. Donna the half time lord.

I ordered mine from TFAW. They also say December 26. :monkey2

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Just an update, Big Chief finally replied to my PayPal resolution attempt, and claimed they hadn't received any of my last 3 emails.

At best, this is a little sloppy of them. Let's hope it's nothing worst than that.

I'll let you know if I do eventually receive the missing consciousness cube.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Hm, I don't like the sound of that. I get the impression that they have few people and much to do. No excuse for potentially telling tales about the emails, though. If they are having an issue with recieiving emails, they need to make an announcement about it so that people know what is going on. If they aren't, they need to be upfront about being snowed under. That would be understandable. Good luck with it.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

I am not calling anyone a liar, and I am not trying to come off as some sort of 'Fanboi'

But I know that I have had both texts and emails (from both Phone and PC) disappear off into the wild blue yonder, never to be seen again.

I cannot imagine that I am alone in this.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

It seems we solved the email issue today.

When they wrote to me on the 18th they used an email which they haven't checked since. I was just replying to them and had no idea they had switched what email they were replying to our conversation thread with. So since they didn't check that inbox, they didn't see my emails.

Yes, sloppy of them, but it seems we have at least come to understand how they made the mistake.

It doesn't explain why they waited a week after PayPal wrote to them on my behalf to reply, but I now understand they are only two guys. If they get me the consciousness cube, then all is forgiven and I will buy from them again. They are still a new (and apparently very small) company.

But no, I've never had emails disappear from my inboxes. I currently use Gmail and mail.com.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Yeah that is pretty sloppy CS. Hopefully as they find their legs it gets better.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

This is quite a lag between the UK and US release. When you're dealing with figures that cost this much, people tend to get real fickle, real fast when they feel like they're being kept waiting. They really need address this for future releases.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Yup. Looks like many of us are left to wait until after Christmas. :cuckoo:
