Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

I like the idea of these packs just because I really just want a few pieces. I'd like his green coat, but not sure I'm fussed about having his cowboy hat or the other stuff.

You would display an 11 figure wearing the green coat and red shirt instead of blue? Besides, if you want the coat you'll have to take the stetson head if you want it or not...see the dilemma? Don't tell me you could sell it as most collectors would prefer getting this from BC directly instead of a third party.

Now, I guess the question is, are there more people in one camp (who want a fully different new figure) or the other (who just want bits and pieces.)

Yup, that is the question...

But, what about the season 7b look? I wonder if they could offer it both ways - just as an outfit set and as a full-on new figure.

That would be best. Personally I think they should make full figures and see if/how many they sell, if not all of them get sold they can still sell the parts separately.

To be honest, I think I won't make my mind up about these until I see some pricing finally. That's really going to tell me whether I think they are a good idea or not.

Yes, knowing prices would certainly help.

If you want all the stuff necessary to build a second figure. I just want display options for the figure I have, which I believe was the intention of the expansion sets.

I know, but the majority seems to want multiple figures.

Yeah, I'd be okay with displaying him with the red shirt and green coat. But that's just me. I know not everyone would be happy with that. :) Unless plans have changed, the stetson head and green coat were going to be offered in separate packs. This is the breakdown from the announcement (last January! Eeek!):

“The Almost People” Costume Expansion Pack
1 x Tweed Jacket
1 x Blue Shirt
1 x Blue Bow Tie
1 x Pair of Boots (St. John’s Mining Facility)

“The Almost People” Accessory Expansion Pack
1 x Eleventh Doctor “Ganger” Portrait Head
1 x Sonic Screwdriver (Open)
1 x Torch
1 x Flesh Puddle with Face

“Closing Time” Costume Expansion Pack
1 x Green Three Quarter Length Overcoat
1 x Pair of Trousers with Blue Braces
1 x Pair of Boots

“Closing Time” Accessory Expansion Pack
1 x Eleventh Doctor Portrait with Stetson Hat
2 x Cybermats: 1 x Search Mode & 1 x Attack Mode
1 x Sonic Screwdriver (Closed)
1 x Toy Store Name Badge

Of course, since then we've seen the fez head and mop, too. So who knows how this'll end up. I don't think they ever offered any new info on these.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

In my humble opinion here - They (BC) just really need to get their act together full stop and give all of us a clear indication on pricing, accurate dates for the releases of all the upcoming products they entice us with instead of stating things that don't materialise as indicated by intermittent communication and publicity shots. This modus operandi may be a clever marketing angle in keeping their customers interested but it may also act against them too by frustrating us with the classic fable of the boy who cried wolf, all too many times running on empty...

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Has anyone posed him outside in the snow, maybe facing off against a few snowmen?
If it snows over the weekend here,I'm going for it!
LOL!

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Unlikely to happen here . Hahaha.
I'll stick with him standing inside his TARDIS.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Definitely think the expansion packs should be cut down to 1 definitive one that give a complete stetson/coat look and then move on from Smith.

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

I second the notion that BC just needs to get their act together.

In reality, for this fledgling company it almost doesn't matter what they release as long as they release SOMETHING.

Seriously, even releasing a mediocre release that takes a while to sell through would be a success for them at this point.

You can't make any money if you don't sell product.

An 11 expansion pack would be ideal item to release while they work on the QC issues on Amy and perfecting 10.

I have no intention of having multiple 11's in my collection. I just want display options for the ONE I have.

Tick tock goes the clock Even for the 10th Doctor…

Oh, ok. Got that mixed up then.

Still, expansion packs mean that those who want multiple versions with accurate outfits would end up missing parts and/or having too many.

I want a Cowboy Doctor but even if I buy all the packs I won't have red bowtie & braces for him. I don't want to take them from the original figure because that guy needs his bowtie & braces too. So, where would I get those parts to complete my Cowboy Doctor? I guess packs that are released later might contain them but then I would have an incomplete and/or inaccurate figure on my shelf in the meantime. Me no likey. Besides, the more variants someone wants to make, the more unwanted spare parts they'll have to buy. For example my dad would like a fez & mop variant. I don't even want to think about how many packs I would have to buy and how long it would take to complete that figure if it's even possible. I guess the easiest would be buying an original 11 and and stick a fez head on it. But where's the point in that? That would cost more than buying a ready made fez 11.

As for selling spare parts, selling on ebay is a pain, many people don't want to do it anymore and the best way to avoid having to sell something is to avoid buying unwanted stuff in the first place.

I think they should find out what the most popular outfits for any character are and make full figures of that. For example, a Cowboy 11 variant would certainly sell well but not many people want a Ganger Doctor. If they decide for the expansion pack option, they'll most likely end up with lots of Ganger head packs that nobody buys but they invested in. I'm not an expert but I believe making full variants would not just be better for customers but also for the company.

In my humble opinion here - They (BC) just really need to get their act together full stop and give all of us a clear indication on pricing, accurate dates for the releases of all the upcoming products they entice us with instead of stating things that don't materialise as indicated by intermittent communication and publicity shots.

Agreed. I think they should focus on getting the figures on the market that have already been announced months ago before they make promises for even more figures.

I learned long ago that the concept of "buying incentive" is completely lost on Liz10. :dunno

I have no intention of having anything but 4 in my collection.

Actually 4 is the one Doctor I have every intention of getting two complete figures of. One for season 12-17 and one for series 18. :goodpost:

They aren't making a Doc from that episode though. It's the Closing Time Eleven and isn't meant to be from the Cowboy episode specifically. Unless they make a Mercy pack it won't be accurate.

The strange thing is that the accessories for it are slightly wrong. The braces in Closing Time were red, but the ones BC appear to be supplying are blue. And no bow tie. But shoes. Why shoes?

I think there will be more to it than what's listed, for those who want to assemble whole figures.

I know, I meant Closing Time Doctor. Mercy Doctor would certainly be awesome but pessimistic as I am I think we're lucky if even the Closing Time Doctor ever sees the light of day...

Yeah, the bowtie & braces are the wrong colour for that figure. I guess accuracy doesn't matter to some people...personally I wouldn't display him with anything other than red bowtie & braces, as I said not sure where I'm supposed to get these from...

Re: New Doctor Who 1:6 and 1:4 from Big Chief Studios!

Yup but is going to be worth the wait:).

Actually, I think it may have a little to do with the fact that the 10th Doctor PO was supposed to be up and live in December.

Which only has 3 days left in it to run...and one of those is a Sunday. I personally am still hoping for a huge Dec 31st reveal and PO on Monday night.

+1

These things are too expensive to buy multiples of the same Doctor, regardless of how big a fan I am. However, depending on price, alternate display options are rather appealing to me, as it allows me to change things up and/or finesse the Doctor look that I'd most like to have on the shelf.

Liz10 is back! (...reaches for the vodka)

Let me try and put this in simple English for Liz - you no like expansion packs, you no have to buy them.

Personally I'm in favour of 'freedom of choice', something maybe they don't have in Liz's neck of the woods, for both consumers and companies alike. You have the money, you buy something, you don't have it, tough ****. What's annoying is to have one person broadcasting loudly and incessantly that this company is breaching their human rights by not selling stuff in the way they (and now their dad) wants. Especially as expansion packs are a much discussed idea and it would be great to see someone try it. If it goes **** up, it goes **** up. Let's try it and see.

No, sorry, lets not try it, Liz10 doesn't like the idea. Jesus Christ, this is what living in the common market does to people. They get a sense of entitlement that infantilises them. Maybe it would be better if action figures were produced by Brussels and given to people by the state - you'd have no choice over what you were getting but at least they'd be 'free', so Liz10 would be happy.

I'm hoping part of the wait for the PO might be that they will announce that 10 will be shipping in a very short time after PO's are open. That's really what they need to do after the 11th Doctor: close the gap between PO and release.
