Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I love the journal of impossible things. I may have to pick that up.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Has anyone seen the news yet. New Doctor revealed.
Looks really young, but maybe he'll age over the next 6 months.:lol

IMO a Doctor that looks so young will be unable to be a convincing authority figure or voice of experience no matter how good an actor he is and I'm pretty certain I won't be watching again.

On the bright side it means I'll be able to get a few extra Classic Cybermen as I'll have some more cash now I won't be buying Nu-Who figures :)

oh come on... it might be fun having noone take the Doctor seriously.
I think it could be very interesting having a character who has almost always been regarded as being an authority on pretty much everything suddenly not be taken seriously about anything.
lol

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I'm with you in that it's going to be hard to take him seriously. I know that they're probably trying to keep things young and hip but this guy looks barely 18. What's next, Frat parties in the Tardis? Who will be his companion, Hannah Montana? But I can't write it off just yet. At least not until I see a couple of episodes.
I'm curious to see what his costume will be like. If he's wearing a hoodie and cargo pants, I'm out:rotfl

As much as I want to say "enough is enough" part of me does wonder "what if the new Doctor turns out to be a suprise package?"
He surely can't be any worse than Tennant who I stopped taking seriously after his first series so maybe without RTD's dodgy ideas the show can become watchable again.
If not it's no big deal to me as there's still plenty of Tom Baker & Jon Pertwee stories that haven't been released on DVD.

Back to the figures the Cyberman wave should be shipping later this month and my army building of "Invasion" era Cybermen will commence!

EDIT
I got my first look at the "Time Squad" mini figures at work today and they are nicely done but not of intrest enough for me to buy as they are only Nu-Who characters.

OK kids we know the Vespiform wave is the first one with a BAF for the New Series, well here is the second wave! It's the Gelth from the end of The Unquiet Dead! Also here is the figures from the wave. Say hello to Jabe (FINALLY), the Aged/Ancient Doctor, new Clockwork Droid and more!

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Not interested in any of those. I am still not understanding why Ten features the least amount of articulation. :dunno

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Well to be fair, he and the Clockwork Droid now have the same amount. But yea, I wish they would give us and updated, properly scaled 10 already.

What's suprising to me is that the molds for the 10th Doctor haven't crumbled yet due to overuse.

Jabe & Bannakaffalatta look nice as does the Build A Figure but I can't be bothered with Nu-Who figures any more especially now cash is in short supply and I hope there's some news of the next proper wave of Classics soon.

Why can't they make these in 1:6 scale? These look tiny..? :( I want 12" collectables, not kids toys.

It's because they ARE kids toys. I'd just face that you aren't going to get 1/6 scale figures from Doctor Who unless a miracle occurs.

Thing is, they made some.. I have some 12" Dr. Who figures..but they don't have anymore...ugh..it's frustrating!! Don't they know by now that their is a big fan base for these figures???

Character Options are a company that markets a line of Classic Doctor Who figures primarily to Nu-Who watching kids that weren't even born the last time that era of the show aired in a prime time TV time slot (1989). Go figure.

From the various bits of info I've read the reason for the 12" line being dropped was that it was more collector oriented and therefore not something they wanted to continue as they don't consider the collector market to be big enough which is either very naive or just plain stupid on the part of their researchers.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Looks like the small-scale collectors have some really nice things on the way.

Too bad to hear that Character is absolutely clueless about the 12" line, though.

And while I would not object to SSC getting the line-if the prices per figure are anything like the SW figures, I would personally have to pick a few favorites and let the rest go by.
YMMV, of course.

Just received one of the Eccelston walkie-talkie figures! It really is a marvelous sculpt, and I can't wait to pop the head on a good body and find him some good clothes.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I for one would STRONGLY object to a Sideshow 1:6 scale Doctor Who line because I don't think they have anywhere near the consistency to do a decent job.

If the majority of the SW figures are any indication of what a Sideshow Doctor Who line would be like I'd sooner go without as I really wouldn't want a set of overpriced Doctors with the same zombie like facial expression, hideous production paint and badly fitting attire that often appears to be made from scraps picked out of a reject bin as opposed to quality fabrics.

I also wouldn't want to wait years for Cybermen,Daleks etc whilst Sideshow fob us off with lame excuses until they finally go running to Hot Toys for help.

On the other hand PFs of Doctors 2,3,& 4 plus selected baddies would be AWESOME especially as Product Enterprises/Iconic Replicas/whatever the hell they are calling themselves this week have shelved their range of Classic statues.

I've not seen them in person yet but I have them all pre-ordered from Play.com and will be getting some extras of the "Tomb" version so that I've got a small group to display with the Cyber Controller Build A Figure.

The only real disappointment appears to be the ears on the "Invasion" Cyberman which in the MOC pics I've seen look way too big whereas the proto was perfect.

Hopefully this is something that Character Options will rectify with a future rerelease because it's the one I wanted most and were it not for the Prince Charles like ears I would have likely bought 10 or more of them.
