Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

The only real disappointment appears to be the ears on the "Invasion" Cyberman which in the MOC pics I've seen look way too big whereas the proto was perfect.

I can give you some cheer on that front. I snapped this in Forbidden Planet on Friday:

As you can see, it's just like the prototype. That said, people have been buying the huge-eared ones from Argos this weekend (I didn't get a chance to look), at least the photos I've seen online have mostly had too-big ears. So it seems like it's pot luck to an extent.

Anyway, I can't wit to get them, but I am behind with the range. I only just picked up the Vashta Nerada and River Song figures today in Asda for £4 a pop. Of course, I'll have to buy them again for the Vespiform...

That's GREAT to see!
If the one I've ordered from Play.com turns out to be the big ears version I can turn it into a battle damaged one easily enough and then keep a look out locally for the proper one.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

They are excellent looking, particularly the Invasion one above and the 10th Planet fella. I'm trying to hold off panic buying them though, as I seem to keep buying things like the Ood for £9.99 when they come out, only to see them peg-warm for months afterwards.

Re. the handlebars, I don't suppose they would be too difficult to fix if you got a jug-eared one.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

That last picture is awesome. Doctorwhotoys.net has some new in package pictures of the next two BAF waves up.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

bcm77 do you still have my back on these? :drool :date :drool

Sure thing. I can either order some from FP or Play.com or keep a look out locally.
Do you have a preference for the "Invasion" Cyberman ie big ears or normal ears?

Well, I've been sitting here, trying to work out a way to put this that won't cause massive sobs and heartbreak, tearing out of heart (preferably your own) and plaintive moans of "Why? Why? Why us?", but alas there are times when yanking the bandage off IS the best way, so I'll be as straightforward as I can;

Sorry folks, but it appears that what we've already seen in the Argos catalogue for Who (New and Classic) is going to be it as regards Doctor Who action figures for the year ahead. There were no new figures, no new playsets, no new accessories, and there was no secret room of surprises (or if there were, it was incredibly well hidden, possibly behind the bags of crisps in the hospitality suite supply cupboard, but I doubt it)

The Vespiform Wave, the Gelth wave, Wave 1 of Classic Who, the existing Dalek three-pack and the Men of Steel are all we can expect to see I'm afraid.

The logic is that as there are no new episodes to promote the show, and there would only be four stories to base figures off of in any event, and in light of the current state of the economy in general, they give the brand a rest this year, and rev up for 2010!

On the plus side, it means we can start saving our pennies, in anticipation of what will hopefully be a kickass 2010 line!

And wandering around the rest of Toy Fair, seeing how much we might be being expected to pay for some of the other figures which ARE coming out (and which shall remain nameless), it really does make you appreciate just how damn SPOILED we've been by the DW line, in terms of size, sculpting, and overall quality.

Its almost as if Character Options hates us. :monkey2

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Once again Character Options show a shocking level of ineptitude and I'm not really that suprised.
I don't care about the Nu-Who figures but their attitude to the Classics is highly questionable and it makes me wonder whether their plan all along has been to do a few token releases and call it quits.
This would be a PERFECT time to do some Classic figures that are more collector oriented even if it were just a single wave to test the waters but instead they continue to stick two fingers up at a market that could bring in big money long after kids have lost intrest.

Maybe this time it will come back to haunt them because many people will likely find something else to collect in the meantime and not bother starting up again next year.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

That can't have been their plan since it has been confirmed that ALL TEN DOCTORS have been sculpted in addition to some monsters intended for wave 2.

This really is a head scratcher.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I can sort of see why they're giving Nu-Who a break as a relaunch around the time the TV series starts a whole new era should create quite a buzz but putting the Classics on hold too is totally ridiculous and given the company's strange attitude towards the line so far I will be very, very suprised if any of the others that are said to have been sculpted ever see light of day.

Be SURPRISED!!:horror

Forbidden Planet International are producing Hartnell and Troughton as both black and white and colour variants and there is a Colin Baker in a blue suit.Somebody with the requesite skills please put a link or some photos in i m too excited right now, never expected these!!!:banana:banana:chew:chew

They re this years Character SDCC exclusives too in the USA.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Pre-ordered whilst in a state of shock!!!

The black & white variants are something I wanted but never expected in a million years and the fact that we get a Dalek & Cyberman with each Doctor is a nice bonus.

If I have a complaint it's the pricing. £24.99 for each of the 2-packs is about £10 too much but I really want the figures so I'll just have to grin & bear it and as they aren't out until late July it gives me plenty of time to raise the cash.

Hopefully these will sell well enough to persuade FPI to distribute more figures such as the companions and more obscure characters that Character Options don't seem intrested in.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Does anyone have the Weta Dalek statue? If so, can you let me know how it is, and post some pics? I'm on the fence to getting it.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Ohhh yeaa. Who was saying Black and white Doctors for a longest tiime? ME! haahaha Goin to preorder them now!

EDIT: Actually after a little searching, don't preorder them as they will be the SDCC exclusives this year!
