Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

When I saw the B&W I laughed out loud and thought about you. :lol

After what went down with the celery, and CO general "FU" to the collectors I figured, how could they not? But I am pumped they are doing it and even MORE pumped these are SDCC exclusives. Interesting that these figures will be at a collector-based event when, ya know, CO can't be bothered with us. I think there is a tone shift at least for the US.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I don;t really like the Hartnell likeness. It almost looks more like the replacement used in the 5 Doctors.

Any sign of a shift in Character Options "Just for kids" policy has to be a good thing even though UK collectors once again get the short end of the stick and have to pay Forbidden Planet's inflated prices due to their Exclusive status.

Of the remaining Classic Doctors Jon Pertwee is the only one I'm really wanting though I'll probably buy 7 & 8 so I can display the first 9 Doctors together.

OMFG! CO and Forbidden Planet FTW!

Yeah, they've even managed to impress a picky so & so like me lol!
This a VERY positive move by Character Options and one that everyone should support as if it succeeds the possibility of more collector oriented releases in the future will surely improve.

Maybe Bessie and the Tardis could get saved from the "What might have been" file via a Forbidden Planet release if enough people let them know they're wanted so get writing!!!

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I agree that this is a very promising move... I balked at the price till I realised that a) these are exclusives and b) they are really two figure sets since they come with a dalek and a cyberman respectively.

I am starting to rethink my order of the Real Time Colin Baker... While it looks cool (and would have been a much better outfit for Colin in the original series) I just can't imagine displaying it.... who knows.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Oh yeah... the sculptor also said over on DWF.com that the second doc will be coming with the B&W sculpt for both B&W and color versions. Which is good because I like the B&W sculpt much better. :rock

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

SDCC aside, anybody have any idea what it means that Forbidden Planet has a disclaimer on these saying "Exclusive to Forbidden Planet outside the USA & Canada!" ? Does that mean U.S. and Canadian retailers might be carrying these?

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Yes. WhoNA has stated they will be carrying them. Don't know when or how much they will cost yet though.

From my understanding they will be like the SDCC Time Crash set where they have them available on the first day of the Con. SDCC and US retailers had to sign exclusivity agreements this time though, only to US/Canada can they sell. Anyone in the UK/Europe will have to go through Forbidden Planet/International. FP/I cannot ship to the US or Canada.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

YOu got it backwards, I think. FP can only ship to UK and Ireland. FPI can ship to the US/Canada. The way they worded it is a bit confusing, but thats whats going on to my knowledge. (It'll make it easier to cancel for me if if I am wrong and thats the case when I reorder through WhoNA or contact a freak about getting them for me direct from the con). :lol

Just checked my invoice and it says international shipping will be figured at the time of shipping... so that makes it sound like FPI is anticipating shipping these internationally.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I dunno, I'm going based off what was said over at DWF and WhoNA's forum. What I got from there was that it's SDCC/US retailers supplying the US market only. Either way, long as I know US outlets are getting these, no WAY I am paying the FPI prices.

On another Who forum I frequent I've seen a few complaints from younger collectors on the prices and whilst I sympathise to a degree I think this move is a necessary one as with the current economic climate Character Options would be very unwise to continue to ignore another possible avenue for making profit from what's likely their highest profile license.

Not I. I will buy whatever they release just so that they get message that the Nu-Who hiatus is the perfect time to release classic-y (and silvery) goodness. :lecture

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Good point. I wanna support this line so that CO continues to cater to the adult collector. :rock

To be honest I'm not a big fan of the 1st or 6th Doctors but if buying these figures helps increase the chances of more characters I do want being released then I think it'll be worth it.

On what the future may hold these are figures that have been either confirmed to have been sculpted or heavily rumored,

3rd,7th & 8th Doctors
Special Weapons Dalek
Ice Warrior
Robot Mummy
Krynoid Build A Figure

Add another couple of figures like a "Revenge of the Cybermen" Cyber Leader and Cyberman that could be easily retooled from the "Invasion" version and that'd be another great wave.

Character Options has gotten the attention of the adult collectors at a point when many were pissed at them for their arrogant attitude, the question I have is will they follow up these latest figures with something as good, even better or nothing at all?

So I am still really pumped over Doctors 1 and 2, both versions. I have found something though, the white dots in the eyes of the figures actually tends to HURT how they look so I went with a black fine point sharpie and filled them all in and wow, to me they look SO much better. I cannot wait to get 3 7 and 8, just a shame it will be 2010 before that happens.

Add the Morbius monster from "Brain of Morbius" to that list as well.
