Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Well the man tried to turn Doctor Who into Sesame Street for idiots lol.

Well thats a tad unfair. I used to work on the show during that era, and yes, Nathan wasn't exactly the most forward thinking of producers, but remember the BBC weren't behind the show back then, in fact they actively disliked it, It was only Nathans ability to keep the series coming in on budget that kept it going as long as it did.

Oh and a friend of mine made the Candyman, and although it was a very silly concept, the costume itself was incredibly well made.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I agree, the problem was deeper than just JNT and lack of support from the beeb was huge. But we need to understand that a great portion of the reason why the beeb lacked faith in the series is because audiences weren't interested in JNT's Doctor Who. He had turned the character of the Doctor into a cartoon caricature. Viewing figures were way way down, so who can blame the beeb? Its amazing the lack of production quality in McCoy's final two seasons and its obvious that this was due to lack of funding. I mean, the audio quality is terrible. I almost have to lip read to understand some of the dialogue because it sounds like those last two series were filmed only using one boom mike.

Visually I think the series was still pretty good in the end. I actually liked Greatest Show in The Galaxy. :peace

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

FPI just twittered this...

More on Pertwee's - 1 in blue suit with cape - other in frock coat (?) with nice maroon bow-tie. We tell Pertwee from McGann DW Forum :)

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

:lol I love that they took a shot at DWF. Now I just want to see some pics and pricing/availability.

I take it from that DWF is a bit biased towards McGann,I've never been able to sign up there as my internet browser isn't compatible.

A tad disappointing that a regeneration 4th Doctor might not be possible without more than a simple headswap but I like the sound of each variant having a different style of attire as opposed to being 1 original and 1 straight repaint. Bring on the pics!!!

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Anyone have any screen pics from JP's era that may reflect CO's attire choice?

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Nothing about love for 8, more to do with someone saying that the person on Twitter didn't know what they were seeing and that it could have been 8 and not 3.

Oh thanks. I made the gods for that one. :lol TV was a completly different world back then. Funding was very tight, and considering the amount of money we had to work with I'm amazed we managed to make anything at all. I mean I look back at the original invoice for the Destroyer and weep.

Those links aren't working for me either for some reason.

Whilst I was at it I thought I'd bring over the photos that I took of the new Capt John Hart figure. I think he's the best of the bunch of this range so far. Beautifully detailed.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Sorry about the links, there must be something wrong either with the site or my PC as I tried linking to the Pertwee picture section and then the main site page and it's not working for some reason but I'll give it another go later.

Even though I consider RTD's "Big Gay Doctor Who Spinoff" to be an even bigger waste of time than the main series most of the figures seem to have turned out well and the Captain John figure looks very good.

Oh I look upon Torchwood as just daft fun. Just like I do the parent show. :lol

Fair enough,I just got a bit tired of TW as every other character seemed to make a point of going on about their sexuality at random intervals for no apparent reason other than to fill RTD's quota for the episode.

If those kind of things were handled in a more subtle way then I wouldn't have a problem with it but after a while it begins to grate and any time I feel like some sort of agenda is being pushed on me as a viewer I usually lose intrest.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Well If it makes you feel any happier, apart from the first episode, season 2 was very low, in any so called 'gay agenda'.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Sorry to barge in, but the length of this thread makes it daunting to retrieve information that I'm sure has been posted.

My understanding is that FPI does not sell the Who classic line to US customers. Someone else has the license for the US territory. The Classic Doctors 1 and 2 will be offered at SDCC and will go on sale the same day...but from which retailer? Doctor Who North America doesn't seem to carry the classic line at all...

help.... ... how do I get the first two Doctors? I'm not chasing B/W variants, color will do for me just fine.

I did watch some of series 2 and it was better in that respect but what really killed my intrest was the episode with Owen sat on the roof whinging about being dead which I consider almost as mind numbingly dull as "Blink" or "Family of Blood/Human Nature".

After that I couldn't justify wasting the time watching it any more which was kind of disappointing as Captain Jack is a decent character and one I'd still like to see travel with the Doctor for a series or two.

Gruff Old Bear,
Underground Toys distribute the Who figures in the US.

You do realise that you've chosen to dis' the two most critically acclaimed stores ever of new who? :lol Lord, I would have loved a TW episode to have been up to that high writing standard.

Have you tried eBay at all?

There are only two viable alternatives:

1) Either attend SDCC or find a friend who will. You can buy the figs there.

2) www.whona.com will have them for sale the day SDCC opens.

Really for those of us Stateside these shouldn't be too hard top pick up at all. I have opted for #1. :wave

I'm more than aware of it but I fail to see why they are worthy of so much praise as they sure didn't entertain me.

Should anyone in the US have any difficulty getting any of the FPI exclusives let me know and I'll sort something out.
