Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Got my first "Pyramids of Mars" 4th Doctor today and it's generally excellent though there's a few flaws in the paint apps, the eyebrows are too high making the Doctor look overly suprised and some of the thinner stripes on the scarf are a bit splodgy so I hope my other one is better in those areas.

As well as the coat and torso the hat & hair sculpts are both new which I didn't realise until I opened it so bonus points to CO for not cheaping out there and the TARDIS control panel is nicely detailed as well.

Here's a quick pic of the "Pyramids" 4th Doctor with the serious headsculpt ( not included, I just have a spare one),

I'll take one with the actual headsculpt that comes with it when my extra one arrives as the one I already have is in the process of having the hat and hair transplanted onto another spare of the serious headsculpt.

One thing I noticed when seperating the various head parts is that the smiling sculpt on the "Pyramids" head is slightly more rounded than the previous one and not quite as tall.

I don't know whether it's a deliberate bit of refinement on CO's part so that the new hat & hair fits or whether it's because the mold has distorted but it definitely looks better.

Looks like a fantastic figure Brendan. Hopefully we are getting a SOD Tom :)horror) in the boxset so I don't have to feel bad about not being able to get this one.

Aside from the paint issues I mentioned previously it's another great rendition of Tom though I think the serious head should have been used as it's more fitting for the episode.

After this year intially looked like being a fairly barren one for new figures I think it's turned out OK as it's seen CO move towards the collector market they'd previously seemed to dismiss though the timing and price of the "Green Death" set slightly rankles a bit.

Hopefully next year will see at least 1 more retail wave of Classics along with a few more FPI exclusives amid the onslaught of Nu-Who series 5 figures as well as the 11 Doctor box set, esp if it's got a "Seeds of Doom" 4th Doctor in it.

A Leak.... FINALLY

Looks good. I especially dig the hankerchief in his pocket... I thought it was a hoax at first but the more I look at it the more I like it. Perhaps the quality of the pic takes it down a notch... but I am looking forward to some official pics.

Nice job DW/CO. :clap

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Great news for McCoy fans who've had to be particularly patient and my first impressions are that it seems to be on a par with the other Classic Doctors.

Hopefully some better quality pics plus a first look at the Paul McGann figure will surface in due course.

GIMME GIMME GIMME! That looks fantastic especially considering 7 doesn't rank near the top of my favorite Doctors.

Ahem.....

I am actually disappointed in how the Master looks in that. :(

Oh my giddy aunt, they're f'ing AWESOME!

I agree that The Master looks a tad off but so have several others in the first official pics ( ie the Pertwee sculpt ) which ended up being great so I'm not worried about the final quality.

Until the Classic Who line came along I'd never bought more than 1 of each character in any other figure line that I'd collected but I can't help myself with some of these and I'll be getting,

Ice Warriors x4
"Earthshock" Cyberman x4
Mummy x2

Classic wave 2 finally confirmed with images and the end of the 10th Doctor in just over a week. What a Christmas! :D

Or later. They don't always get things same time as the UK. They are usually a little behind because these are imports with warning stickers slapped on usually.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Any word on whether these will be a general retail release like the first wave or just limited to collector stores?

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

They will be a general release. :D

Excellent, my army building could possibly be a bit cheaper if they eventually get put on clearance at places like TRU or the big supermarkets.

Now the initial "WOW! new stuff!" euphoria has worn off I've studied the new figs a bit closer and the only one that looks a bit off is Morbius but I think it's largely due to the age old problem of sculpting short fur realistically and there's probably not much more that could be done to improve it.

WilliamShatnersToupee also pointed out to me via e-mail that the Ice Warrior's arms are a bit thin looking and lacking the forearm gun that they had in some stories but seeing as how CO made variants of the Nu-Who Cyberman with & without a similar weapon I think a variant is possible, include a seed pod accessory and slightly alter the paint apps and sell it as a "Seeds of Death" version......easy money IMO.

An "Earthshock" Cyber Leader has to be on the cards as well as it's a simple repaint.
